Alien was trying enough at 2 hours so thank god it got cut down. As for The Thing, I doubt that movie was a masterpiece before the cuts.More like studio interference and ***** executives with no backbone for risks ruin good concepts time and time again. The filmmakers who made Alien didn't even know if most of it would work when they made the movie, and there was constant fear it would fail. Filmmakers in the 70s and 80s didn't magically know how to make great movies on a dime. Fox didn't want us to see the Alien we know now. If it had been up to Fox, the Space Jockey set would have been excised from the film altogether. Studio interference has gotten worse and more powerful than ever, and a ton of character development and story was cut from the Thing prequel due to test screenings. The original screening of Alien was four hours long.
