Prometheus - Part 3

I understand the dislike towards the idea. It's too obvious, overly simplistic.

If they had done it, I bet a million bucks it would have been terrible.

I mean, when they have aliens on Earth in AVP, it doesn't make a great deal of sense, it spoils the franchise somewhat, and it all takes place in such a remote place that there's hardly any point to having the film on Earth.

It's much cooler to have the films take place on remote, distant planets.

I accidentally saw the teaser on the big screen the other day while I was strolling around the auditoriums and I must say, it looks pretty good--as a trailer anyway (Up until this point I have been intentionally avoiding the teaser). I could tell whoever was in charge of making this teaser knew what the audience was and/or knew what they needed to show to get people interested...

Especially for a casual Alien fan such as myself, I'm sure that people with minimal connection to the Alien films will be able to see the references within. Even though I think I'm a little bit young to truly be a die hard fan of the Alien films (even though I've seen them all sans Aliens 3 including the AVP films albeit having not seeing "Aliens" in many years), this movie has at least given me a great deal of motivation to go back and re-watch the first two films at least.

Be sure to watch Aliens extended cut.
The assembly cut of Alien 3 is not bad but I also liked the theatrical version so ...

Something interesting Theron has said in interviews i haven't really noticed until now. She says Ridley would sometimes make her "lurk" in corners of the set, or something to that effect.

I think I remember reading once that in the original script Hurt's character was supposed to actually physically become the alien.
Perhaps they're returning to that idea with Theron's character...

Ridley Scott also said his original idea for the ending of Alien was for the Xenomorph to get horny and start touching its self up so I hope Ridley ain't recycling too many of his old ideas

According to Ridley Scott in the DVD commentary, he had envisioned a moment in the ending scenes of Ripley and the alien in the space shuttle in which the alien would be sexually aroused by Ripley. Scott says that in the scene, after Ripley hides in the closet, the alien would find her and would be staring at her through the glass door. The alien would then start touching itself as if comparing its body to Ripley's. The idea was eventually scrapped.

Hahah! And then there's the original planned ending were the Alien kills Ripley (by biting her head off), sits down in the cockpit of the escape pod and radio's home base in Sigourney Weaver's voice.

Yep. Read that again. That almost happened.

Anyways, in regards to the Theron theory it makes about as much sense as anything else at this point and it gels with a lot of what we're seeing and hearing about this movie.

AvP should have been from one of the already existing comics. I liked the 1st? one with the chinese chick on the intersteller cow ranch..great story.

I don't think AVP should have been made in ANY form. It's stuff like that that's made this franchise the tired out irrelevance it is today.
With a bit of luck Prometheus can make this franchise genuinely interesting again.

i dont believe that one bit. the AvP franchise, if actually given a damn about, couldve revived the series. the second AvP game for PC had a damn good story that couldve been a great movie.

the first couple of novels were also pretty damn good.

The concept of Aliens vs Predators is good. But it needs great execution of a great story.

I didn't really like the Aztec thing or whatever it was in the first AvP.

The whole idea of the "Space Jocky" and cosmic gods is much more interesting.

She also said that her character represents the Company in this movie. Seems like she might be the Ash of Prometheus.

Aliens on Earth would be lame in my opinion.

I agree. The threat of the Alien is seriously overstated in the movies; notice how in Aliens the Marines were mowing them down and it was only through plot developments (being limited with what weapons they could use for fear of blowing up the reactor, losing most of their weapons) that they couldn't completely handle them.

If the writer/director had any sense, any movie where the xenomorphs got to Earth would result in them being quickly wiped out.

i have a feeling that leaked plot is the real deal

I wonder about that too- I found the profile of the imdb user who claims to have written it as a fanfiction, and I can't find it in any of his September (when he claims to have written it) posts. And the fact that I wasn't really following this movie makes me wonder about timing- was it announced awhile back that the Space Jockeys would be called "Engineers" as in that script? There are other things that make me wonder.

Like I said a while back...
I was reading over the leak again last night and came to the conclusion that it was BS. For one thing, they mentioned the corporation as being Weyland-Yutani instead of just Weyland. The ending also doesn't match up with what we've seen in the trailer, It says that Rapace's character flees the planet with a jockey in pursuit, and that the jockey crashes on LV-426 along the way. It never states why the jockey crashes and implies that it gets infected with the alien after the crash. Since all of the other crew members are dead/transformed/sucked into a wormhole by this point, none of this lines up with the trailer, which shows the humans fleeing from the crashed jockey ship as it falls over.
At best, only certain elements are true, and even that's iffy. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's fan fiction.

Its possible the supposed plot leak might of been taken from a draft of Jon Spaihts screenplay before Damon Lindelof revised it.

Or someone that had a lot of the facts/ trailers ..but not the whole picture.

I'm hoping the ending is BS..it sounds confusing and somewhat lame, but the rest sounds very good.

On the surface, i tend to agree with you..and i think it is more so truer in zombie movies.

But then you see things like Katrina and realize how many helpless people there are that are ill prepared for any disaster...i dont know.

I think they would still cause some serious havoc, but would have zero chance of rendering us extinct.

I really dislike Alien 3. And I could handle the idea of Hicks and Newt dying, it was just how it was executed. It just seemed like there was no importance to it whatsoever, not seeing their faces due to Biehn not participating or Henn being absent made it worse too. It was just like, "That's it?" There could have been more to it. There wasn't much going around those facts and it hurt the film.

I get the idea of the nightmare is never over, and I liked that, but how it was handled just didn't sit right with me.

And the location of the prison and the prisoners were just boring too. Nowhere near as interesting as the characters from the first two films.

Too bad Weaver disliked the Earth idea, because that seemed like a natural next step in the story.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you here. Respectfully though, as you added some reasoning as to why you didn't like Hicks and Newt dying. I love the unrelenting nihilism of the film. If anything it lines up more with the tone of Alien, than the pulp sci-fi tones of Aliens, Aliens just got away with it because it's literally one of the greatest movies ever made.

I, along with everyone else hated the idea of Hicks and Newt dying, but I respect their decision. The Alien franchise isn't Predator, or Terminator or Die Hard, it's as close to reality as 8 foot tall acid bleeding creatures will allow. Unfortunately in real life the amount of heroic Hollywood deaths can be summed up in a Cracked article, unfortunately people die very unceremoniously in real life, in car accidents, illness. That's it because it's supposed to be it. It's a testament to the power of the characters that 20 years on we still hate that they died.

On a personal level, space prison as a cinematic setting has always fascinated me, I can't think of a more appropriate setting to absolutely define complete isolation. Being locked in an inescapable metal box, in space where no one can hear you scream there's nowhere to escape to. I understand and agree that Alien 3 didn't make the best use of it's setting, but it's something that floats my boat.

That being said, it's an extremely polarising film and I certainly can't fault anyone for viewing as a negative part of the franchise.

See that was my problem with it. They regressed to what Alien was, which I think, should have expanded the scope instead of went smaller scale. Which is why I think Earth would have been the better place to go. I was liking the early drafts of the script from what I read where they were on Earth.

And I understand people die in car accidents and my favorite movie death of all time
in The Departed is as sudden as they come.
With this I just felt nothing. The fact they wouldn't come back to this one couldn't help but stay in my mind with those scenes happening. I just felt nothing. I didn't feel Ripley's pain. They just seemed to try to get around not showing their faces, and that effected the emotions of it all. We only saw them on that digital thing on the ship, but that didn't really cut it. The fact I knew what went on took me out of it.

LOL wtf.
