Prometheus - Part 4

Re-watching Alien, I've only just realized how nonchalant Dallas is when they discover the Pilots fossilized remains. Weird.

I always wondered what the hell happened to Lambert in Alien because you see the Alien wrap its tail around her leg and then you hear her screaming by the time Ripley gets to her you see her clothless leg dangling covered in blood.

Hey guys! Been following this thread for a while, and this movie looks epic!

But I am confused. What's this talk of that bald guy in the trailer being the space jockey?

In the original Alien, the space jockey was a huge creature in a seat. I also heard is that the space jockey is the after math of someone morphing into it.

My question is, what is the space jockey, what do they do, and is that bald guy in the alien suit a space jockey?

Thanks guys

The space jockey started as the centerpiece of a set because ridely wanted the movie to look big to show the audience this wasn't another B-horror/scifi film(like corman movies) it almost didn't make it but ridley fought for it and won. Then the crew started calling it the space jockey because it was sitting down on this huge seat inside the ship(assuming he piloted the ship).

Now yes it is pretty clear that the bald guy is the SJ and yes he was bigger in alien,(I guess they made him smaller in Prometheus so he could interact better with the human characters and it could be a guy in a suit and not a cg character(although it could have been done via motion capture) but the new size is better. The original jockey's size would have been like 10 feet tall and much wider.

As for what really is this creature, no one knows for sure and that's one of things the movie will deal with. What do they have to do with us, are they our creators? are they good, evil, do they have a sense of morality? There's a lot of unanswered questions when it comes to the SJ and that's what makes it so exciting.

Just finished watching, looks really good! I'm pumped.

So it's a crew member morphing into a Space Jockey...thats what I got from the trailer :P

The alien raped her, it stuck it's tail up her... naughty bits.

She was raped. There was more to the scene that was cut that had it been left in would have made it clearer. Its talked about in the commentary.

I know there is different cuts of it. In the version where you see Dallas getting turned into an egg it shows more of the tail going up towards her ass, instead of just the shot where it's by her foot.

I think it's perfectly fine to look at the first Alien as a slasher movie in space. But the whole rape undertone just makes it so much more terrifying.

Its amazing how the edited part of bret's death and made it look like it was part of lamberts (the tail wrapping around the leg was actually brett's leg).

It's funny, re-watching ALIEN; the crew was so chill about Kane having a facehugger on his face. No one even freaked out about the predicament until the chest-bursting.

Also, in ALIENS... did Mother/Ash never notify WY about the aliens, before Ripley was found? Caz, why would they specifically go to LV-426 to build a sustaining planet if it technically was inhabitable because of the aliens? Well, we do know WY is very adamant (Burke) on studying the alien so maybe they are just *******s who like to use their workers as bait.

That's pretty much it. They sent the colonists to LV-426 as bait. The company gave the order for Newt's family to go check out the space jockey's ship.

I think the guy in the cap is the same one firing the gun in the hanger

I just remembered that Patrick Wilson is in this and we don't know who he's playing. Looking at the profile of the supposed Space Jockey I'm starting to think he may actually be playing it.

Similar profile (cheekbones, nose and facial structure). I'm probably way off base but it's fun to speculate. :funny:

interesting idea.IMDB says he is playing Noomi's father. with old make up?
it looks like they are using a tall actor for the space jockey.

Ridley didnt want to talk about Weyland. it looks like his role is part of the plot.

I think People might have already guessed what Weyland's part is .....

In the background, Peter Weyland 83 years wearing an advanced SE suit with cadium exo-skeleton with one of his aides holding his walking stick.

"A king has his reign. Then he dies. It's inevitable."
So we have a dying egomaniac tycoon who proclamed himself a god on board of a mission to meet actual "gods" who mastered life itself. What if the king refuses the inevitable, finds a way to become immortal by stealing God's knowledge?

Its just a theory of course but judging by what we have seen and heard so far could be true :cwink:

I'm so happy Guy Pearce is in this, and as Weylend...

That company is too powerful and dangerous in the series to have never see "the suits" [higher up than Burke] of the company. It's cool we finally are...

Good spot Chamber-Music. Yea, I'd imagine Weyland would want to see this himself.

Do you guys think Weyland might have discovered a way to prolong his, and others, life outside of space capsules?
