According to Viscal on the Prometheus Forum, he/she quoted someone who posted this (someone who understood French and got it from a French article):

So, basically, 119 minutes is pretty much what he wanted it to be. It's only two minutes longer than the original A L I E N, so that makes sense.

I think everyone is overreacting a bit.

Well, as long as we are all getting the same cut I'm cool with it.

UH OH!!!

ScriptFlags is reporting that European markets will get the R rated version of the movie and the US will get the PG-13 rated version of the movie. They also report the difference in run-time (17 minutes) is related to the rating, meaning American audiences will NOT get the full intense experience as intended.

THANK GOD FOR THAT!

I'm from London England so dont really care about rest of the world as long I get to see a fully fledged 18 certified version of the film I know this will be CRACK! Anyhow they try release anything under a 15 minimum I'm gonna be pisssed!

^Well, aren't you a sweetheart.

"The difference in run-time (17 mins)" MY ASS.
ScriptFlags is the worst source. Don't ever trust them.
They were clearly reading some fanbase site, which reported Ridley cut 17 mins out from Prometheus.
But that was a false report.

I figured as much. I have never even heard of ScriptFlags let alone trust them as a source. I'm sure everything will turn out great and Prometheus will be the movie we all want it to be.

Definitely. :)

Thanks for clearing that up. Il know not to put stock in what they report next time.

It just goes to show how easy it is for one site to take something that someone else said and twist it into something else just to stir the pot, so they can get their 15 minutes of fame and get recognized for "reporting" something.

So true. They also just gave up their credibility in the future.

Well on the brightside we were faced with a horrible proposition and came through it. Honestly having two cuts out there of this film would have been my worst fear for it at this point. It shows a lack of confidence in what the film should be which doesn't instill confidence in me. Glad it isn't happening. I'll take the rating we get and be happy knowing something much worse could have happened.

Agreed. Having something like that really would've diminished my excitement for this film. But, knowing now that's not the case, I'm happy, because it shows that the people at Fox have confidence in the product that is being released.

It's definitely a far cry from the Fox that, a few years ago, meddled with the production of their films and suffered for it as a result. With the recent releases of X-Men: First Class and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, it looks like they've definitely learned from past experiences not to mess with the filmmaking process and let the director make the film he wants to make.

I mean, if Ridley Scott is happy with the cut that we're getting, the one that he always intended to make, then I'm happy. :yay:

Please don't give Englishmen a bad name.

No it's not. By this point we know there's two cuts. Why should the entire world watch a truncated version of the film because of the inadequacy of the MPAA.

How is it the MPAA fault?

The reason why that came about was because someone on another site, with questionable reliability, started the rumor that 17 minutes of the film was going to be cut for the U.S. release, and that cuts outside of the U.S. would get the "full movie".

However, that piece of "reporting" was debunked by a legitimate poster on the PrometheusNews.net forum using an two legitimate sources (a french article and YouTube video with Ridley himself), saying that the 17 minute thing was part of another quote taken out of context, meaning that the "two cuts of the film" rumor is now false.

On top of that, Ridley Scott himself said that 119 minutes, in the same interview, was "what this film should be."

There are not two cuts of the film!

WTF are you talking about? Ridley Scott himself said there was two cuts of the film, this has been known since way before that article. An R and a PG-13. The only reason the PG-13 cut exists is because PG-13 films make more money. I'm expressing my disappointment that I have to watch that version when the complete version could just as easily be released overseas like they did with Taken.

Believe me, I aready know Script Flags is full of crap, they've already reported tons of bogus 'news' since the film was 'Untitled Alien Prequel'.

Basically America should adopt the MA+15 rating that Australia carries. Having PG+13 for mostly tame stuff and then R+18 for anything over that is too extreme cut off. The MPAA should seriously add consider doing this.

I'm thinking it should be like a PG-15. Slightly more extreme violence, language and sexual content than a PG-13, but not enough to warrant an R rating.

Yeah they should have a rating like our MA15+. They could simply call it M.

Oooh, I like that better. It could be short for "Mature audiences not under 15 permitted."

Kids that age are slightly more mature than a 13-year-old, so they can take a little more, but not quite as much as a 17-year-old that can watch R-rated movies. And, if the parents have any qualms about their kid seeing it by themselves, they can always watch it with their kid or anyone over 21. (Almost) everyone's happy.

They should seriously implement something like this. Imagine how much this would free up filmmakers worrying about having to cut back on the content of their films, since there would be that in between option.
