Prometheus - Part 6

It sounds like a solid science fiction movie to me. The consensus are disappointed because it's not a real prequel to Alien but that's their fault. The memo was out that Ridley said the only connection to Alien is the last 10 mins or whatever. Another complain is that is not ground breaking. Jesus. Not a lot of films out there are ground breaking and they are still good. A good movie is a good movie and stop comparing it to the past movies and base this movie on its own merit. All I want is a good science fiction movie and I know I'm getting it with this one.

I think he's saying that the director's Alien and Blade Runner films had mixed reactions upon release.

Which is why 3 decades later, Scott gets the benefit of the doubt by both fans and critics.

Only 1 week until I see this at the BFI IMAX cinema on the Southbank. Really looking forward to seeing this on the BIG screen!

The consensus is that it's disappointing because the story is not engaging and the cast is wasted. But still, the direction is top notch.

Man, all the reviews in Europe are saying the same thing about this movie. The hype and my expectations are slowly declining.

Since when did everyone become such pessimists. I know I was saying something would go wrong but a few early reviews and people are in full retreat. I thought we were made of tougher stuff than this.

Here we go again with this. Something we feel is fanboy lore and bulletproof gets some mediocre reviews and people fall apart. Just go watch and enjoy the damn movie.

Like I said earlier, this is a movie that needs to be viewed more than once. And it's a gorgeous movie. the landscape are spectacular, and it's perfrectly shot. There are some great scenes.

I think all of you will have a great time watching it. but The story is still very generic and not that interesting. And the cast is still wasted. Does that make it a bad movie? Not at all.

I'm confident I'll enjoy this, a large scale Sci-Fi/horror flick with this level of talent rarely comes along, I'm not looking for a reinvention of the wheel, just a good old time on a wagon :cwink:

It's going to be a treat. I've been looking forward to some space rape all month.

Bit dissapointed in some of the reviews, but i'm sure I'll still enjoy the movie, didnt expect it to be groundbreaking like Alien but was hoping it would live up to other excellent recent sci fi movies like Moon and District 9. Seems thats not the case but i'm sure I will still enjoy it.

Things like this are the reason I dont hold Ridley Scott in as high regard as some others though, he seems to have an inability to elevate an average script into an amazing movie. If he doesnt have an excellent script, we dont get an excellent movie. Even on Gladiator Crowe demanded a change to some story elements which were changed for the (much) better but he had to point them out himself.

So I have finally seen it and yes, it's technically superb but the pacing is not good, the story is nothing new and very simplistic and the only well written character is David (great performance by Fassbender by the way).
I totally agree with the person who said that once you have seen the trailers, you already know the story.

This is definitely more a prequel of Alien and honestly that's what I wanted before seeing it, but after actually seeing it, I wish it wasn't.
I wish it was more about the space jokeys. But it seems like it's what the sequel will be about.

In conclusion it's definitely not the masterpiece we were waiting for, but I have a feeling the sequel might be. Althought it will need a better writer, someone with actual ideas and who won't give us the "philosophy for dummies" we got for Prometheus.

I think people should go watch it because it is a technically superb film and if most people love Avatar (I don't), they can love this one (which is better) too.
I mean, I may be too hard on this film since I am an Aliens fan and because I feel it's wasted potential, but if films like Avatar or The Avengers can get great reviews, they better praise Prometheus :cmad:

And I really want that sequel.

Oh and I have now a crush on the actor playing Holloway aka Tom Hardy's hot brother :o

I agree 100% with this. People should really watch it.

Yeah Lili, we are on the same page. It deserves to be praised, because like you said, Avatar wasn't as beautifully shot, and it has a very generic story, and most people still liked it.

The thing is, I was waiting for more from Lindelof. Scott himself delivered where we were waiting for him: his direction is perfect, and he really created an atmospheric mood. it's the screenplay that let me down.

Judging by Lost, though, Lindelof isn't that compelling a storyteller. He almost solely relies on twists but has no idea where to go with a story.

yes, but usually, he knows how to make you feel something for the characters, a talent that was laking in prometheus.

Would you say you felt less for the characters here than in Alien?

I would say I felt nothing at all for the characters, with the exception of Fassbender's David. And you have to know Guy Pearce is one of my favorite actors ever. and I didn't care for his character.

I assumed, knowing who he's playing, he [BLACKOUT]has one scene in the movie? Like talking about financing the expedition or sth?[/BLACKOUT]

I will only say this: he's in it longer than expected.

No, I'm angry because I got the "no" part of your response.

It's a shame they didn't use his featurette in the movie.
