To the people who have seen it
do you think the engineers creating life, I mean us, was an accident? I mean people in this film want to know why they created us and why now they want to destroy us. But I felt like it was just an accident and now, we are just some nasty weeds they want to get rid of. Like Weyland said there's nothing there.

I think according to the film, our origins are similar to that of the xenomorphs, essentially they were created thanks to human DNA mixing with the black liquid. I think it's possible we were created in similar ways starting out as a primal and aggressive force, spreading over earth, but we eventually evolved to be who we are now, so the engineers mean to wipe us all out.

Those Engineers may have advanced technology, they are still dumb though. I mean they wanted to destroy Humans but didn't they think the weapons they wanted to use could be worse?! Seriously, now we know where our self-destructive behaviour comes from :o

From the film, [BLACKOUT]I really did not feel like we were planned unlike the xenomorphs. I feel like the Engineer in the opening sequence committed suicide. I think it possible that they were looking for him and he killed himself accidently creating Humans.[/BLACKOUT]

Yep, hence the age old sin of Prometheus, giving fire to mankind, essentially giving them life, giving them weapons, technology. If anything you could also wonder who gave the engineers their "fire", how did they come about discovering or developing this biological weapon. It mirrors humanity and their advances in technology that might very well cause our own end. (artificial intelligence, nuclear warfare etc)

Thing is though, I don't think the liquid does much on it's own other than infect and destroy from the inside (the natural form of the liquid is those tentacles) The xenomorph in the end was created by insemination from an infected human. (well technically the huge facehugger who created it was) I don't think it's much of a stretch to assume our origins are similar to that of the xenomorph. The engineers DNA may very well be the basis of our own.

[BLACKOUT]
I said "cream" not "flesh". It was definitely of a dirty white tint in the film I saw... Kind of like the chestburster in the first Alien. With less yellow. Please don't tell me I'm colorblind.
[/BLACKOUT]

I swear the one I saw was a dark blue...

How does [blackout] human DNA create a giant squid monster? [/blackout]

So I caved and went to see it in 3D as there were no 2D showings. I think the first thing to say is that you should go into this movie not expecting the same kind of heart pumping impact Alien had, it doesn't break any new ground and pretty much follows the structure of Alien and every other Sci Fi discovery movie since.

What it does deliver is a good sci fi tale that has stunning visuals, a lovecraftian atmosphere and adds positively to the already in place mythos. It answers some questions and leaves others.

On the acting front Fassbender does a good job emulating what we know and Rapace is the heart, but Theron is vastly underused, Vickers is fairly bland and has no stand out scene [BLACKOUT]and a lame death[/BLACKOUT]. Idris Elba is solid as the ships captain but the rest of the support are throwaway and the guy playing Holloway is poor, although he wasn't helped by the dialogue he was given at times.

The film is engaging but I never found it thrilling, it was easy to read beat for beat. The world they land on is immersive though and the story has enough in it along with the visuals to keep you involved. However it doesn't reach a climax, it just goes where you expect it to.

The film is quite slow and then suddenly is in a rush to get to the ending, an ending that is partially satisfying but also lacking in a moment to truly give you that feeling of awe, it also has a couple of parts to it that don't quite work, one logically and the other due to lack of character development.

The final shot is a real doozy though but doesn't explain anything regarding Alien.

I'd say this is a good return to sci fi for Ridley, but more a safe and steady addition to his Alien film than the triumphant masterpiece some were hoping for.

8/10

I saw this movie I enjoyed it alot.

Not everyone is going to like this movie its different from the other Alien movies so if you go expecting something similar you may be disappointed.

The Bad Stuff

I didn't like the main theme which sounded like music form Star Trek or a 70s Sci Fi movie.

The trailers and tv spots give away way too much. I managed to work out almost everything it turn out all my ideas were right.

I don't know if the fact I knew where the movie was going was the reason

The Good
A couple real gross out moments that had everyone squirming in their seats.

The movie looks beautiful. The Sci Fi stuff was realisticly believable like Minority Report. Its technology you could believe would possibly be avaliable in 100 years.

I loved the performances Fifield was
definetly the Hudson of the movie

Idris Elba was in the film way more than I thought he would be. He certainly down played his role. His southern American accent wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Didn't know Chance was being played by Scottish actor Emun Elliott from Game Of Thrones, Black Death and Lip Service.

Two hours until I'm watching Prometheus. Hyped! :woot:

As far as being set in the Alien-universe goes I hope it's gonna be my third favorite after Alien and Aliens. Pretty reasonable expectations I think, especially since I've liked or loved every thing I've seen and heard so far from it.

I'm not expecting it to be Alien at all. Didn't think it was supposed to be. Hopefully that gives me a better viewing experience than those who were.

People are saying Fox deliberatley made more 3D screenings than 2D to generate more cash because alot of people can't find 2D showings anywhere.

the mercenaries were even more
useless then the marines in Aliens :woot:

Milburn's
death was the worst. His arm being broken was nasty.

Fifield
smashing the mercs head in and getting run over was cool.

Expectations are in check. It will be nice to get a film even very loosely linked to the Alien universe that doesn't outright suck. Been a long time!

Mark Kermode aked Ridley Scott on his show today if there are any extra stuff he wants to add to the movie and if he would do a directors cut in the future and Ridley said there are other scenes he would like to add and he he wouldn't rule out a directors cut.

Ridley also said there would be two more Prometheus movies before it completely tied in with Alien.

Its funny that there are all these Engineer space ships lying around that planet.

So for these who have seen it does the film seem like

A:Part of Alien Series
B:Completly original film

The answer will determine If I spend money going to theatres on this.

Really? I'll be interested either way as long as it's a good sci-fi flick.

So....

Is
the "giant squid monster" essentially a proto-Facehugger? What exactly does it look like, besides a squid?

and more importantly:

does it hump faces?

It contains Alien elements, is set in the Alien Universe and what happens in Prometheus has a bearing on the Alien franchise as a whole but its also it own thing and not really like the other movies in alot of ways.

I know that sounds confusing but thats how it is.

It expands on the Alien Mythos while also offering more questions.

Its a proto-facehugger. It looks like a qiant suid with teeth and a tentacle tongue that comes out like a xenomorpth
