Prometheus - Part 9

Shocking - all the crap parts of Prometheus came from Lindelof's "revisions". Though, I put an equal amount of blame on Ridley, who probably asked him to incorporate those elements.

The script was better than the movie Prometheus, though the 3rd act of the script was the weakest part.

What all kind of differences were there?

Calling the script Alien Engineers, aka AE:

-Prometheus ship is Magellan in AE.
-David's flat out evil in AE and much more complex in Prom.
-Holloway's not acting like a baby in AE.
-The 2 scientists that die are given more exposition as to why they act like this and why they are lost in AE, although I suspect this was in Prom, too, but got cut out.
-No black goo, but black bugs in AE.
-Different, not at all existential objectives for Weyland and Vickers in AE. Purely biznez.
-Holloway doesn't drink black goo by David, he finds a facehugger egg room and gets... hugged. Dies while having sex with Shaw (called Watts in AE) when a chestburster comes out.
-Shaw/Watts isn't impregnated, David lets a facehugger get to her in AE.
-No abortion scene, but a surgery that removes the burster, which comes out and kills everyone in the room while she observes from within the pod.
-Creature is squid-like, but Alienish, too, in AE.
-Fifield is more like the concept art drawings, more Alien-like in AE.
-Planet is the same as Alien in AE.
-AE is far more expository in a good and in a bad way.
-Shaw/Watts wears an Engineer helmet and she/we see how they saw. She does that to lead a war party to capture and decapitate David to get the data in his head (data that Vickers needs to get to Weyland for that biznez objective I mentioned).
-David in AE is rigged with an objective where he has to follow Vickers' orders. But when he communicates with the Engineer ship he develops trinary code and is set free.
-David wakes up the Engineer for different reasons in AE: He's disappointed by humans as his creators, so he wants to talk to his "granddad", the Engineer. In that sense you can tell Peter Weyland from Prometheus is a character made from parts of AE David. Weyland's only in the beginning.
-The Engineer snaps an Alien's neck like bread.
-Fifield's there for the climax, after the Engineer wakes up. Fifield also talks.
-Vickers doesn't die in such a ******ed way in AE.
-Final fight is with the Alien (Ultramorph Alien, it's called), Engineer dies with the impact of ships. Alien eats Engineer and grows in size.
-Different finale. More pessimistic.

All in all, Prometheus was the better story, imo. Far deeper and more different. Like Scott said, shared the same DNA with Alien, but its own movie. AE was definitely a slave to its being an Alien prequel. All Prometheus needed was to make the planet the same as Alien and different editing to keep a coupel expository scenes for characters' motivations and plot details that put a lot of people off.

yeah, just read that script.

I'd say it's at least 90% the same as what we got in Prometheus........essentially the same structure and plot.

some of the things in the script may have been better than what we got in the final film, although it's kind of hard to say.

I much preferred the David in Prometheus than the one in the script.

both the script and the movie share one thing..........and that it's a giant tease/setup for the sequel..........it ends just as it's getting interesting.

I find it interesting that so many people seem to think Lindelof made the script worse. Many of the things people considered problems in the films are in both versions, and the most obvious differences are huge improvements; ie David is a magnificent, interesting character in Prometheus while in AE he is just an evil robot. The mission is also a purely economical/scientific one in AE- adding essentially everything about questioning faith and life and death was added in Prometheus. The only moment that I would consider a "favorite" in both drafts is the med pod c section.

Interesting stuff, really interesting, as a person who loved Prometheus though, some of the vagueness in that movie helped IMO, this script seems to de-mystify the Xeno's too much, which I dont particularly want.

Although would have loved to see an Engineer snap a Xeno's neck like in the script, hope we get to see that in the sequel, or at least a confrontation between an Engineer and a Xenomorph.

The script is no longer available, and I forgot to download it. Can anyone help a brother out?

I would say David was pretty disappointed with humans in Prometheus as well.
