So Ridleys confirmed that there is a planned Prometheus 2 & 3 before we even reach Alien, that's made the ending a little bit better to take....

That's interesting, wonder if the sequel will take place directly after this? That would really help the ending I think.

Not sure when he would do these though because it would appear that his next focus would be Blade Runner 2.

One would assume following Blade Runner 2.

2016 (pre-production) at the earliest.

Assuming 20th Century Fox doesn't hire another director to take over.

I'll wait to see it for myself before reading what he has to say, but I have heard more and more people say that the film has more depth and isn't as shallow as many are saying it is. I'll have to see it for myself but it wouldn't surprise me.

It's easy to say something that is pretty has no depth upon immediate viewing.

I was just thinking, wouldn't it be interesting if David flouted Weyland's instructions and said something that was antagonising to the Engineer? I mean he visibly got agitated when Shaw was shouting at him and then when Weyland's goon hit her, what if David fed on that agitation and got the Engineer to get rid of the people he was in servitude to?

It's often hard to reconcile what you expect to a film to be, and what its director wanted to say through it.

At the end of the day, I'm very much into the director's "intentions". What I mean is that a film could be an absolute pain to watch for me, I could be in total disagreement with its themes, at the end of the day if the director was able to say what he wanted to say and can convincingly defend their intentions, then I'll concede their film is a success.

After watching Prometheus I was a bit disappointed with how the themes were "not" handled. After reading this interview, I can see a lot more "layering" in the film and understand a bit more Scott's intentions.

One of the best things about the film to me is [BLACKOUT]the look on the engineer's face after David has asked him questions in his language. The way he looks at him, you can totally see what's going on in his mind "How far you've gone, my son. And that makes you dangerous". And then bam... rips its head off.[/BLACKOUT]

I'm all ripe for a third viewing :-D

Especially when you see it in 3D and your so focused on how immersive the overall experience is.

Caught the flick yesterday; it was alright. Felt like something was missing overall.

If nothing else, thank the gods that Prometheus retcons the AVP movies back to the hell they came from :D

Some people are absolutely loving this when they come out of the theater and can't stop thinking about it for days after, and others are saying they were very disappointed. There are debates happening on many different forums about whether the film has the answers in it or not. This sounds like it could become a debated cult phenomenon. Many people have told me that the opening scene explains a whole lot about the unanswered questions of Prometheus. Ive been told to go in the theater with that in mind.

There is a good number of answers in that opening scene. And after you've watched the whole film and think about it some more, you understand just how many questions it also raises.

On the whole, I see a lot of people on the internet ending up in my case after they've watched it : they just can't stop thinking about it. Scott did that to me twice already : with Alien and Blade Runner. Haunting films.

Does that mean I'm bound to add Prometheus to my favourite movies list eventually? I'm starting to think so.

I love that guy.

Amen to that :woot:

And also, regarding the opening scene, it did not explain anything to me to be honest. It just raised more questions.

I'm more than confident I will be one of the people who wont stop thinking about it after. I can pretty much tell just from the reviews and debates on Prometheusforum.net. Many of the people who can't stop thinking about it are people who have similar tastes and opinions to me.

I'll give it one thing, even I did feel underwhelmed, it hasn't left my thoughts since seeing it.

I know it's left to everybody's interpretation... But two options keep getting stuck in my head regarding this opening scene.

a/ What if that Engineer is some sort of "Prometheus" to his people? As in he stole some technology to empower or create some other species by bringing "fire" to them (or this black goo?), and as a result he was punished and stranded on this planet (is it Earth for sure?). And to p... them off, he committed this suicide, that would end up in creating life on said-planet.

b/ That saucer is bothering me. It's not the shape of their other ships. I know that it doesn't mean anything, but it opens up viable options. What if they were another species, one that this Engineer wanted to reach somehow, like humans are attempting to contact Engineers throughout the film? What if they were the Engineers' creators? And that he was manipulated, by them or by his own kind, into drinking that black substance, without knowing what would come out of it?

So many questions that will never get answered. What makes it worse is that Ridley's absolutely right : Believe whatever the hell you want to believe in. Nothing good will come out of an answer.

I think that's what Ridley wanted right from its conception. In fact, wasn't that an exact quote from Scott himself? He made it clear he wanted to make a standalone movie with 'Alien', philosophical and origin elements that answered some questions but inspired many more in the process. Ridley wanted people to talk or debate about Prometheus for weeks/months to come.

Yes you could actually interpret it in many different ways. When I saw it I didn't thought that it was earth we were seeing. Also I just read on another forum a post similar to yours that when he fell into the water his dna is what created us. But we can't be sure that is supposed to be earth as you said. So many questions, but it's sure to keep people talking until the sequel arrives.
