i think on friday it will be 4 weeks since the movie is out.

i ask you.................where are the deep complex debates about the meaning of life and aliens creating humans?

In my version of the script. :awesome:

I didn't like how events like burning Holloway didn't have any real effect in the film. There were no repercussions for Vickers, and I don't mean that nobody gave her an official slap on the wrist - the atmosphere onboard between crewmembers doesn't change (as thinly drawn as most of them are), there are no interactions between Shaw and Vickers afterwards, no hint of antagonism from anyone towards her (Janek seems level-headed - but no hint of an objection from him afterwards), no sense of "she means business" from anyone." Cut the burning out, put in a line saying that Holloway just died off-screen, and you wouldn't know that this apparently dramatic character showdown even happened.
There was a scene of Vickers dealing with killing Holloway but it wasn't in the final cut according to Charlize.

This thread was filled with them for two weeks. What's your point? That a month later people aren't talking about it as much? If so, that's kind of a pointless argument. Movies that have been out a month (or three weeks domestic) don't get discussed as much around here. But obviously people are still talking about this movie--including yourself--almost a month later from its initial release. That's more than I can say for SWATH, MIB3 or any movie that's come out this summer including The Avengers (as in if you go anywhere beyond this fansite or others like it, can you find anyone really talking in June or later about the actual content of The Avengers and not the box office?).

The fact that some are still dissecting the movie in this thread, shows it has a life after viewing. It's not as good as Blade Runner, but it's the same arc of people initially hating it, but a small devoted fanbase continue to talk about it for a long time to come.

Speak for yourself.

You've been busy making sure that's the case for a long time now. Which is fine and all but you've been persistent on keeping that conversation going and effectively drowning out any post that's about ideas or theories.

One need only look back at the pages of this thread and the one before it and so on.

DarthSkywalker is pulling a I SEE SPIDEY in this thread. lol

the number one argument that the movie is good is that there are deep debates about the meaning of life all over the internet and on SHH. this is not true.

because the truth is that its hard to talk about this movie in general because almost nothing is clear. everything is vague. and thats why the whole internet concentrated on the script problems IMO.

i like avatar. i watched it 3 times in the theater. but its a fact that its the most cliched most predictable blockbuster ever. a 5 month old baby would know the story when watching the movie. its that obvoius. i admit it because its to obvious. the problem with prometheus IMO is that there is waaaay to much denial. and i am not talking about you . i know what you liked and didnt like.

for the love of the almighty we dont even know why David poisened Holloway. how can we discuss this movie? no and nooooooooo its not the same like Alien and Blade Runner. both movies had a clear story. everything before and after that is vague and can be debated. but the story was clear and we knew what was going on.

I thought it was clear that he was curious to see what would happen just like a child is curious to touch an oven while it's on.

No. I was here for a week or two after release discussing the movie with other people. I haven't seen it since opening weekend and will probably have more to say after I see it again (preferably in a DC). Most people here seem to want to talk about the movie and then there are a few like yourself who have hung around three weeks bashing the movie's script. Honestly, if you hate it so much why are you still talking about it? I hated SWATH from its script down to its direction and most of the acting. And guess what? I only posted once or twice in that thread within a day of seeing it. I don't really understand why you're still whining about this movie.

I thought he did it to f*** with Holloway who was being a d*ck to him

My theory about why the Engineer all of a sudden got angry is that it's similar to the Oliver Twist thing. Weyland is basically saying "please sir, can i have some more" by asking for immortality.

The Engineers decide to wipe out humanity because their creation, us, has become so advanced that we rival them. We have created artificial life in David, can travel across the galaxy. It's like if we created an AI and it became self aware. We'd surely try to pull the plug?

His initial reaction to David is interesting too. He pats him on the head and he has a look of what i think is pity. He pity's David. Presumably he can tell he is artificial and cannot really feel emotions. He's an abomination, a cheap knock off, in the Engineers eyes. Not a real biological being.

There is many subtle moments in this film. I liked in the briefing where Shaw replies to Milburn "It's what i choose to believe" and it cuts to David's reaction, who has seen her say that in her dreams. The scene with David and Charlie where he infects him is also brilliant. Fassbender is surely one of, if not the best actor in that age range right now.

Nah, to me David was in essence a child that is wanting to learn and explore. There's a reason why you see David wanting to read Shaw's dreams and why you see a teacher giving a lesson to David.

The theories are dead on arrival, because there is not enough meat to base a real theory around.

You could theorize the film is a giant metaphor for My Little Pony. It wouldn't be less valid then most of the theories because of how little is actually there to base a theory on.

I assumed it was part of his mission, to see if the ooze could save Weyland, but it isn't clear.

so how can we discuss this f... movie if we have 3-4 different answers . are we now going to have a 4 page debate why David did it?

I didn't hate this film. I hate how much of a waste it is.

David did it because Holloway stole his lead role in an off Broadway play back on Earth.

I'm not going to engage in the Prometheus stuff because I could go into a long diatribe about why David infected Holloway (short answer: Weyland told David to test it on somebody, it's left up to the audience to decide if David chose Holloway as the subject) or about the allusions to Sumerian mythology in the film's beginning. But you won't care, because you think the movie has nothing to offer and is too vague.

So instead, let's look at Blade Runner for a second.

If the Blade Runners know what the escaped Replicants look like (as they show Deckard a video of their faces and profiles), how did they not know who that guy was at the beginning they were testing?

How did Batty escape and what was Batty's motivation beyond wanting more life? Why did he kill his maker and spare Deckard?

What are those little things that jump on Deckard's car? They're not explained.

Why introduce Sanderon's pet toys when they're not fully explored beyond that one scene?

Why is that one replicant a stripper if she knows she only has weeks, if not days, to live and knows that her face is on a bulletin for Blade Runners? Why "hide" in such a literally exposed place?

What is going on Off-World and what are things like the Fires of Orion and Moon Beams?

How did they know Deckard dreams of unicorns? And if he's a replicant how can he perform those tests on replicants without dysfunctioning himself? And if he's not a replicant why do his eyes glow red? If he is one, why do they spare Sean Young and program him to be rebellious and antagonistic to his boss?

If Sean Young's replicant has gone AWOL and needs to be taken out, why didn't her company or the cops check her home apartment where she was until five seconds ago when Deckard called her to come to the strip-club/bar?

Why did the stripper replicant and the one at the beginning have an apartment with photos if they literally just made it to Earth when he's being interviewed at the beginning?

There are gaping holes in BR if you want to look for them.

The thing with this film also, is that i think it's a metaphor for ultimate questions in science.

The question of "what is our purpose?" or "why were we created?" They don't have answers. You'll never be able to definitively answer those questions. You ask those questions, and they raise more questions.

I think people going into this film expecting answers to those questions had the wrong expectations.

Why did David poison Holloway? I think he chose Holloway out of the others because David thinks that is a human reaction. Remember the viral video? David can't actually feel emotions, but he understands them. He understands that a human reaction to Holloway's teasing and mocking is to retaliate. He retaliates by choosing Holloway to test the black goo.
