Prometheus - Part 9

The lack of Lindelof even makes me look forward to the sequel.

The lack of Lindelof sounds great but I still don't trust Ridley when it comes to picking good scripts.

No Lindelof? Me sad. But it won't really hurt anything.

I know it's the cool thing to do but I don't solely blame the Lost writer for Prometheus's ills. I place most of the blame of Scott because he is not some up and coming director and obviously signed off on the script. Scott gets like 70% of the blame IMHO. The movie obviously didn't bomb eventhough it had lame legs, legs that were worse than Snow White and the Huntsman's as a matter of fact, (fanboys like to ignore that little factoid) but I don't see a sequel happening unless Scott fast tracks it. He's an old ass man who can only do so much. I invision the promise of a sequel for years to come and it not coming out...unless Scott makes it his next film.

Oh, there is plenty of blame to go around.

True. Honestly I don't care if a sequel is made because I'm not seeing it either way. I flat out did not like the first film and see no reason to see a sequel in theaters. If a sequel is made congrats to the people who liked it.

I'll probably see it if it actually gets made. I enjoyed Fassbender enough.

I think the problem is more with Ridley then with Lindelof tbh. Ridley seems to lack focus these days. He has no clue what he wants to do he just wants to do everything that comes to his mind so he ends up s****** out random projects and movies on. I mean how many planned projects does he have now? The ones I know are The Counselor, 2 Prometheus sequels, a Blade Runner sequel, a Biblical Epic about Moses, talks about a film adaption of The Forever War and talks about a Western. Is there more? That's just off the top of my head. It seems to me like he wants to go genre hopping in every direction and he's so impatient to just get it all done that he doesn't even bother to make sure his scripts are great and not just alright/mediocre. He needs more focus on one project at a time, perhaps.

To be fair, considering his age, is it really that surprising that he wants to get as much done as possible, as quickly as possible?

Yeah. I get the feeling he wants another crack at the cheerleader before he graduates to heaven.

Ridley wanted Prometheus to be ambiguous so if you didn't like that you can blame Ridley for it.

The script had its flaws but at the same time Ridley said this was part one of a possible two part spin off/prequel.

It honestly wouldnt surprise if Ridley Scott produced the next movie and let someone else direct it, as others have pointed out, the guy has a lot of projects lined up and he seems to want to do all of them.

Those deleted scenes sound VERY interesting.

Ridley works very fast his like Clint Eastwood he can just bang movies out efficiently.

Ridley has been averaging almost a movie a year over the last decade. Most filmakers take atleast 18 months between movies.

I think the problem Ridley has lately is he seems to completely change his mind on a movie his working on like how Robin Hood was supposed to be about the Sheriff of Nottingham being the good guy and Robin Hood the bad guy or how Prometheus was originally a straight up Alien prequel instead of a spin off/prequel.

So has it been confirmed that we are only getting deleted scenes and not another cut? I was hoping for Ridley to take another crack at the edit.

I think there will inevitably be one at some point. I can never understand how you can have flawed cut of movie x and deleted scenes y without ever x+y = z, where z = great movie.

Deleted scenes don't always help a flawed film imo, but sometimes they really can. I think it really depends on how much of the original story and idea are removed. Kingdom of Heaven is a prime example.

If they make a sequel then Fox will probably release another Prometheus cut as well

I hope Ridley Scott directs Paradise as soon as possible, he's very good with science fiction and he should make more

The concept behind Paradise makes me giddy (after greatly appreciating Prometheus). The grand risk for Paradise, however, lies in the script. Granted, Prometheus had its flaws and shortcomings when arriving to the screenplay but considering Ridley is fully aware that he may not get a third opportunity to finish his story, the script for Paradise, in the process, could be extremely bloated in closing the gap between the prequels and Alien.

^Agreed, Paradise could very well be an unbelievably good sci-fi movie, I personally loved Prometheus, but the questions it raised could have some amazing answers with the right script.
