Alien is amazing considering it was only Ridley Scotts 2nd movie and his first hollywood movie.
Other than the chest bursting scene, nothing in the original would have prevented it from getting a PG-13 today. There have been a few too many "****s," but I can't remember. Most of the horror in Alien is left to the imagination.
And as this isn't Alien: Birth or something like that, I assume it will be its own picture. I hope it adds some of the visceral feel of Blade Runner which was not as claustrophobic. I like seeing Ridley paint on a big canvas. Just because it's PG-13 does not mean it can't be creepy or ooze atmosphere. The studio seems to want another Inception type film IMO. While this will be slower and I don't know how well it will financially, Scott will be able to make it how he sees fit beyond too much gore, I imagine.
Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox have tapped Logan Marshall-Green to play a lead role in Prometheus, the science fiction film that Scott next directs. Marshall-Green will play the role of Holloway, a crewman on the space ship and the love interest for the character played by Noomi Rapace. Rapace, the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star, was the first castmember set by Scott. Marshall-Green most recently was seen in Devil and Brooklyn's Finest, and did stints on The O.C. and 24. He's repped by 3 Arts and Gersh. This was a role that a lot of young actors chased, and who wouldn't want to be involved in Scott's first sci-fi foray since Alien?
The film also stars Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron, with Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie playing smaller roles. Shooting begins in March on a film that started as a prequel to Scott's seminal science fiction film Alien but morphed into something else. The original script was by Jonathan Spaihts, but the most recent draft is by Damon Lindelof. Shooting begins shortly in the UK.
http://www.joblo.com/arrow/index.php?id=27094By the way, today we had someone give us a heads up to the fact that, in a foreign interview back in December, Ridley Scott admitted part of PROMETHEUS takes place a million years in the past...presumably showing the origin story of the space jockeys. Sounding cool to you or what?
Good to see that Scott has relative unknowns along with some up-and-comers. Keeps it fresh. No Angelina Jolie, I hope!

Movie news website JoBlo.com mentioned in a post today that they've heard that part of the Prometheus story line will take place millions of years ago.
By the way, today we had someone give us a heads up to the fact that, in a foreign interview back in December, Ridley Scott admitted part of PROMETHEUS takes place a million years in the past...presumably showing the origin story of the space jockeys. Sounding cool to you or what? There's no word of where this interview is, or which language, but thanks to Valaquen for pointing out this article in German from Swiss magazine Blick. It's from May last year, so it might not be the interview JoBlo is referring to, but it seems pretty close.
Scott speaks of Erich von Daniken: "He has guessed right. Millions of years ago, there were intelligent creatures everywhere." It is a time when HR Giger's monster didn't exist.Erich von Daniken is a Swiss author who's best known for his book Chariots of the Gods from 1968, in which he hypothesises that many technologies and religions of ancient human civilization were given to them by ancient astronauts who were treated by humans as gods.
"I have to create something new."
He bases his hypothesis on ancient structures such as the pyramids, the Nazca lines and Stonehenge, and on interpretations from the Bible.
If we take this and look back at what little information Ridley Scott has revealed about Prometheus in the past, we can find obvious links between von Daniken's hypothesis and what little we know of the Prometheus storyline.
Scott mentioned just recently that Prometheus is a "... story of creation, the gods and the man who stood against them".
There's hardly any doubt that the "gods" Scott is referring to are the ancient astronauts von Daniken writes about. And as we all should know by now the man who stood against the gods was Prometheus, who stole fire from the gods and gave it to us mortal humans.
In this case, I wouldn't be surprised if the "fire" is an alien technology such as terraforming, which has often been mentioned in the mix of rumors regarding the Prometheus storyline.
