Well they said Theron is nude doing pushups, so that may answer the rating lol. But the footage sounds great, they better release it!

"If you can do it live, do it live... It is not more expensive to do it practically." -Ridley Scott

Amen.

EDIT: Looks like they are aiming for PG-13, no matter with such talent behind this team its going to be great.

Scott's not confirming whether the movie will be R or PG-13. But promises there will be naked press-ups.

You can get away with so much in PG-13 now days. Really they'd have to go Hard R/NC17 to reach the R rated of them older days.

Well the thing about R is PG-13 you can get away with a lot now, sounding like Naked pushups.

But the one thing that some don't seem to get, is that Alien and Aliens were great sci-fi's. After that Alien 3, AR, AVP's made them into monster/slasher pics that were more about the gore and acted as if that was core to the series. And if anyone knows the core, its Ridley.

I hope this footage and behind the scenes video is released online. I wonder when the teaser trailer will be released.

Unless you're the Coen Brothers...you can't.

No blood. No gore. No nudity unless it's a dude's ass, can't say more then one F word, the film cannot be dark in tone...in any way (Max Payne was rated R as it is because of the look of the film, and tone).

PG-13 sucks ass as a rating. Some films get away with it fine...but cut down ones...ehh.

That being said, if they film this R, and cut it later, i'd be alright with it.

You do know that there is a high high probability that there is no chest bursters in this film. So again, besides that extensive gore is not required. Hell there may only be an Egg or some hint towards it.

Yeah but....they've been talking about how nasty the film will be...how dark...ect.

The first Alien is a very sexual movie. I would love for Ridley to go back to that. And I doubt a vagina looking space ship will go past the MPAA.

Well we know the ship is in it we've seen the set pics. Films can be extremely dark in tone, TDK, The Ring, The Prestige, even LOTR, can have extensive dark tones and be PG-13. Looking at that one pic, its pretty clear this film will be dark, and it seems everyone at CC loved the footage. I doubt this will be a light hearted film. If he does the sexuality right, it will go right over the MPAA's heads. Alien had sexuality, but it was subtle, that was the magic of it, people did not know why they were feeling uncomfortable.

Here is what Ridley said.

Damon asks "has the PG-13 rating inhibited" Ridley? He says he obviously has a responsibility to his studio, but says he "makes sure I always have both options." They'll decide later when they look at it on the Fox lot.

Yea she looks crazy like Ripley there. Man I hope that footage leaks at least lol.

The Prometheus panel at the San Diego Comic Con has minutes ago wrapped up. Instead of a trailer being shown, some sort of featurette containing behind-the-scenes footage and movie footage was screened instead. After this Damon Lindelof and Charlize Theron presented the panel with Ridley Scott and Noomi Rapace joined in via satellite uplink from Iceland.
The footage and panel revealed this about Prometheus:

  • Many of the sets, spaceships, space suits and the look in general appeared very reminiscent of Alien. Repeated comments are that the sets are “epic and expansive“.
  • In the footage the “Prometheus” title card slowly faded onto screen much in the same manner as the original “Alien” title.
  • Michael Fassbender’s character, David, is shown looking curiously at a drop of finger on his blood.
  • Charlize Theron’s character, Vickers, was also seen doing naked push-ups and wielding a flame-thrower. Vickers is revealed to “be a suit“. IndieWire is taking this to mean she’s the head of Weyland-Yutani. Theron also comments that: “She[Vickers] runs a tight ship… but she’s somehow ‘going to be a problem“.
  • Ridley Scott comments on the long wait for his return to science-fiction: “I was busy doing other movies and exploring other genres and, frankly, I never thought about sci-fi until I realized there was something in the first Alien that no one ever asked a question about. In the next one, still no exploration of that big question, so maybe that can be the centerpiece of what we just complete. But we’ve decided to go a complete other direction… In the last few minutes of the movie… you’ll actually understand what I’m talking about . “
  • The majority of the film is shot practically with very little CG. However, it was all shot entirely in 3D which is a format that Scott is quite taken with. “I’ll never work without 3D again, I loved the whole process… 3D opens up the universe even in a small dialogue scene, so I’ve been very impressed with that.”
  • According to Ridley there will “maybe two” androids featuring in Prometheus. We’re already aware that Fassbender’s character, David, is an android so this leaves the second a mystery.
  • Noomi Rapace comments on how “demanding” working on Prometheus has been. “It’s been the best journey ever. When I read the script, I was thrilled. Then when we started to work on this, I completely forgot about everything, it felt like we were discovering something that I haven’t been in before
  • A bombshell was dropped in that Fox are wanting Prometheus to be rated PG-13. Lindelof asked: “has the PG-13 rating inhibited you?” to which Ridley replied he has a responsibility to Fox but he also wanted to make sure he had both opens. In all likihood we’ll see a PG-13 theatrical release and an uncut Blu-ray release.

Apparently Charlize Theron's character is in the official first pic we just got.

So looks like is gonna be:

Theatrical release: PG-13 version

Dvd/blu-ray release: R-Rated version (director's cut)

The last time Ridley made a movie for fox was Kingdom Heaven that also had two cuts. He publicly announced that there are two cuts and fox will decide which cut they will release. Fox chose the PG-13 version for release and we all know the fate the movie suffered. Critics and fanboys trashed it because they wanted Ridley's R rated version of the movie.

What I am trying to say is that Ridley and Damon should have not talked about the rating at all. This stuff should be left closer to release date.

Hopefully, critics and fanboys don't ***** and moan this time about lack of blood or hardcore violence in a Ridley Scott film. I for one couldn't care less as long as the movie is good.

Nowadays most R rated sci-fi and action movies tend to suck balls. R rating only works for comedy.

I LOVE that unofficial picture of Noomi. It just screams young Sigourney Weaver/Ellen Ripley.

And then the actual footage from the film starts, and its a huge flood of creeptastic imagery that recalls Alien but also a bit of 2001: A Space Odyssey. There are guys in pressure suits exploring an ancient chamber with weird hieroglyphs, and a guy in a spacesuit walking through a sliding door into a clean white chamber. And a guy (who might be Michael Fassbender) pulling a weird jelly-looking thing out of a canister. And as Ridley Scott's voiceover notes that things that may look small in the film will turn out to be important, there is a shot of a drop of blood on a finger. There is Charlize Theron on a table with bandages wrapped around her breasts, as though she's waking from hypersleep.

And then the footage gets faster and more furious, with a guy in a visor looking down at something, a woman in a suit walking into a red entryway, and a globe, and then Scott says, "The cast find an establishment which is not what they expected it to be, it's a civilization but what we find in it is very uncivilized behavior." And then there is insane carnage and people with goop inside their space helmets and someone shooting a flamethrower, and mayhem breaking loose in confined spaces. Meanwhile, Scott's voiceover is saying that there will be biomechanoids and the film will "break new ground." We see a giant pale planet with rings around it.

And then we see Charlize Theron doing pushups naked. Ridley Scott proises that there will be creatures that are "biomechanoid" which will be unique and "break new ground." Says Scott in the video, "There is a DNA of the original Alien, [but] that's as far as it goes, everything else is completely different. It's all about everything." And now the people in the footage are crying and screaming and freaking out and the video is flickering like an interrupted signal. And Scott concludes, "Of course, what i want to do is scare the living *beep* out of you."
