and ironically enough, from what we can see in this trailer, Depp's character seems more gentle than Bale's one !

That's the problem with Depp; it's impossible to hate any of his characters. He brings a level of charm to every character he plays. I should have wanted to hate him in Blow, but I ended up feeling utterly sorry for him.

I suppose that will come in handy for this film since he's supposed to be playing a very charismatic gangster. Still, I'd like to be able to root for Bale's character, but I don't think I'll be able to.

Of course, this is all conjecture base on a 2.5 minute trailer. :oldrazz:

But wasnt Dillinger a kinda popular guy, and actually kinda a nice guy(for somebody that rob banks)?

Look him up. My grandmother talked about him like he was Robin Hood when I was little watching the Warren Oates Dillinger movie on tv.

For a period film, the "modern" action style is an interesting choice. We'll see how that works.

Doesn't look bad. Bale looks like he's sleepwalking through this one. I guess we'll see. Melvin Purvis was my high school Sociology teacher's great uncle, so...yeah, I want this to be good.

Trailer was absolutely great!!!

But if this is the best that '09 can give...That's pretty disappointing!

You pick the worst pictures to use for 3D....sorry.

Nothing in those pictures would look cool in 3D

He was. He only stole money from banks, not bank customers, and he felt really guilty over the policeman he killed. It doesn't make his behavior right, of course, but he did have a heart.

At first I read that as "my high school Scientology teacher's great uncle". :hehe:

There's also Terminator: Salvation, Star Trek, Sherlock Holmes, Watchmen, and Wolverine. :yay:

Overall...eh

I didn't like any of the music in the trailer and I don't like that Mann filmed it in digital. I liked it in Collateral, but here it doesn't work at all for me. I thought the HD digital look in Benjamin Button looked great, but the regular digital format doesn't fit the time, imo. It's different, sure, but I still don't like it. Still though, Johnny Depp and Christian Bale look great. In the end, I'll still be seeing this opening night.

Given that he has barely any screentime in this trailer, I think that's a bit unfair at this stage.
Great trailer, though - loved the homage to The Untouchables at the start. Cotillard sounds good.

Fourth in a series. reboot, reboot, adaptation, prequel/fourth in a series.
Not an original idea between them.
That said, I'll be going to Watchmen tomorrow, and probably to Terminator and Star Trek.

Saw this with Watchmen, it was better the second time. When it ended, it got alot of buzz.

They guy next to me with his gf said, "Johnny Depp." in like a "You want to see that because of him right?" sort of voice.

And how does that make any of those movies less? I don't care if it's a reboot, remake, or adaptation, if it's a good movie it'll still be good.

If any of those will end up to be the best movie of the year, I will be dissapointed! Even Watchmen. I predict that the only movie of these that will be in my top 10 at the end of the year. Maybe even top 20.

Reading the book right now, and I've learned quite a bit so far. I love how almost all of them knew each other and all the big events were going on at the same time.

It's indicative of the lack of imagination, and lack of risk-taking, in Hollywood today.

I'd say JJ Abrams is taking the biggest creative risk of the year with Star Trek. If he isn't, then he's only second behind James Cameron, and his risk comes from just from spending so much money.

Eh? The properties themselves may not be original, but the approach and stories they're taking them certainly are. In the end, I would say that is the most important aspect.

You wouldn't fault TDK because it was just another Batman film, would you?

I like Billy Crudup's accent in the trailer. It has that strange American accent that was big in the 20 and 30s. I don't know what you call it. It's almost upper class and fast talking.

Was Batman Begins unimaginative because it was a reboot? Was Slumdog Millionaire unimaginative because it was an adaptation? Was Empire Strikes Back a safe film that took no risks because it was a sequel to a successful film? Will I keep asking rhetorical questions?

does anybody got the name from each music title which appeared in the trailer ?

Trailer was very good! Still not completely sold on Mann's handheld cam technique though.

I know the last song in the trailer is a souped up version of the song "Ten Million Slaves" by Otis Taylor.

I also know that unlike A LOT of other people, I dug it's usage in the trailer. It's kind of a way of saying "Hey, this isn't just another Heat or American Gangster... This is something a little different. So shut up and enjoy Depp shooting stuff and being nice!"

...At least that's what I took away from it...
