The handheld camera brings immediacy to some scenes in the trailer (such as Dillinger waving to people while he's being taken to jail). Me, I'm just personally glad Mann changed his mind and actually used a different cinematographer to shoot on film for this movie. It'd look anachronistic, to say the least, not to mention cheap.

Mann's usage of digital really hindered the look of Miami Vice and Collateral, you could see the digital noise in the darkly-lit scenes (even though you get better black levels than you can on film).

Its weird because Benjamin Button uses a digital camera but it looks like film. That's the main reason why digital HD cameras are not the norm (yet) because they have yet to achieve the 'film' look, with rich textures and depth. Ben Button achieved that for the most part (though it looked cold sometimes. Can't say why).

So it's funny how Mann doesn't want THAT film look and rather go with the 4-5 year old cam-corder visuals that other filmmakers look down upon. The cam corder look is great for indie movies like Baghead and Hannah Takes the Stairs though.

Guess Johnny Depp had a sick day. :oldrazz:

Liking what I see, gangstas, shootouts, Depp being a bad ass, Cotillard looking and sounding hot, the kick arse music, all looking very, very good. Can't wait.

just look at the screen cap above ur post.
it just looks nasty at times.

im pro digital, but i dunno why it looks so crappy when he uses it.
whenever you see a gun fire its most noticeable.

Was Marion Cotillard trying to do an American accent? I couldnt tell...

Let what I've said about camera used for Ben Button, Mann is stepping back with the digital revolution (if there is one).

I thought an early review said Bale and Depp don't share any scenes together.

Well she plays an American so yeah, pretty good too from the few lines I heard, not flawless by any means, but she definitely doesn't sound like her normal self.

That song is amazing. What's it called ?

FREAKIN" AWESOME!!!

I loved that trailer and Depp looks like he is going to absolutely steal every scene he is in. So far it looks like this could be Depp's best performance yet.

It seems like Mann has made yet another classic, and to me, may cement his status as the best director in Hollywood.

what's the fast paced song used in the last like 45 seconds of the trailer?

the trailer looks really good. I want to see this movie now

I'm working on the song. If I could make out the lyrics a little more clearly, I'd have better luck.

opening song is Blow Wind Blow by Rairbirds
back end song is Ten Million Slaves by Otis Taylor
the song cut in between Ten Million Slaves is a piece of library music.

That's totally great. Just astonishing music.

It's rated R for *gangster violence* Never seen that term before, :hehe:.
Solid trailer, had me salivating. I can't wait for this, Depp looks like a madman. Excellent song choice near the end too.

I wonder how gangsta violence differentiates itself from good old fashioned regular violence.

I read "fantasy Violence" on the back of my Streetfighter IV cover . lol

The fedoras?:o
Seriously, I would like to know. I laughed when I saw it.

Is it just me, or the way they filmed this seemed off? Did they use a different kind of camera? It looks like the type someone would use in a student film. It just seemed off to me. Anyone else notice this? It's hard to explain.
