I hope the CGI of Depp's face doesn't become the new CGI of Indy's pants from The Crystal Skull trailer...

I think that may be the most needless CGI shot ever. He's leaping over a barrier that's like 3 feet high...

Maybe in the actual film it's another character who leaps over it, but they wanted more Depp in the trailer, and that shot is good, so they did that.

Uh, Mann didn't shoot on HD for Public Enemies, he shot on regular 35mm film using cinematographer Dante Spinotti. There was a press release about Mann's crew for this film before shooting started, and that was a specific detail in that.

I think the overexposure in some of the scenes (too much light) is throwing some people off. Collateral and Miami Vice looked like big-budget versions of CSI -- the look screamed "television."

Do you have a link to this press release? I'd love to read it, and I have to say it sure doesn't appear to be 35mm to me...

Depp and Mann's direction look amazing, but the music was horrible in the trailer.

Also....it pains me to say this....but I'm tired of Christian Bale.

I agree. Bale is getting played out. Brad pitt would have been a better choice.

I like the quick shot of that guy laughing and shooting towards the ceiling.

hahah..

bang bang bang.

Why are tommy guns so damn cool? There's something about them.

I agree,

there is no way that that those shots in the trailer have been shot on 35mm.

It is quite clearly the same HD used on Miami Vice and Collateral.

I know that on Collateral, Michael Mann used 35mm in mostly the inside scenes, then for most of the outside scenes he used the HD Cam.

35mm film gives an instant cinematic feel. That trailer did not have that cinematic feel.

It was more like the documentary style of Miami Vice which we saw.

However, it could be that he has used 35mm on some scenes in this movie.

Indy's pants were cgi?

lol

you remember the first trailer that came out?
when Indy and Ray Winstone are being held at gunpoint.

Well, Indy's pants are CGI'd in that scene for the US trailer, and slightly different from the International trailer. His body is at an impossible angle in one shot of that CGI, hence the big uproar over it at the time.

I think the intention was done on purpose with Mann's love of that 'cam corder' look of his movies but do you think he's hurting the HD digital movement, or taking a step back?

Hope it is better than Miami Vice and Collateral, although I did like the latter.

that one scene in Collateral at teh night club reminde me of Grand Theft Auto for some reason.

they had to erase the guns out of the trailer because it was showed with PG movies.
i dont think people even noticed the CGI pants before someone pointed out the alternative international version with the guns.

again the CGI pants were made so that they could erase the guns for promotion. in the movie there are no CGI pants.

I was looking forward to Public Enemies because of Bale, but now after having watched the trailer it looks like Deep has an interesting character to play.

People talk about Depp and Bale but for what I read of some test screenings reviews, Billy Crudup owns the movie all the way. I am happy, I think he is the best actor of the three. Talk about someone underrated.

Honestly, this is Depp's movie. Bale plays his antagonist/anti-villain for the most part. It's similar to what Crowe did, but the movie was about Denzel's character. No one wants to see the story about the cop bringing down the iconic gangster, they want the story about the outlaw.

and ironically enough, from what we can see in this trailer, Depp's character seems more gentle than Bale's one !

Ugh. The picture quality/style/whatever was terrible. It looked more like a cheap dramatized tv documentary than a theatrical film. I hope it's just unfinished, and the actual movie will actually look like a film.

Couldn't finish the trailer...

Didn't notice the CGI at all, that shot looks all kinds of badass, people need to calm down.

I think it looks awesome too many nitpicks here for my taste. lol Its ok though. If you think about it Bale is only in 2 movies this year, how is he getting played out?

I would say Brad Pitt is more "played out" than him.

Amen! I had to laugh out loud myself when I read that bit about Brad Pitt as a suitable replacement for Bale since he is so 'played out' now. Why? Because of the Dark Knight? Bale has been banging around for 20 years and I can pretty much guarantee if you showed his picture to random 20 people on the street a good 15 of them would be hard pressed to tell you his name.

Anybody heard of Bradgelina? Talk about being overexposed.

Yeah i mean don't get me wrong Brad is a great talent but he gets more exposure than Bale does by about the length of a football field.

i think this looks pretty good...i'm definately gonna check this out

we will have to wait and see how a daylight shot film in HD is going to look overall. With this movie, and his previous two, it looks like Mann has now gone totally HD now. I guess thats his trademark now.

For Collateral and Miami Vice, they were both shot mostly in night scenes, and they worked quite effectively with Mann's HD gritty look.

For me the best parts of the HD look are the gun shootouts or action scenes.
Just brings you right into the action!
especially the Collateral "hey homie, is that my briefcase" shooting scene with Tom Cruise!

The Gunfire looks insane in these types of scenes.

I reckon we will see some pretty good money shots in this movie with the gun shootouts.
30's era gun fights, sounds good to me!
