During the interrogation scene the Joker gives Batman the location of Rachel and Harvey. I took it that the Joker gave the wrong directions to Batman, knowing he'd go to Rachel. But after reading some comments spread across multiple threads on this board I'm not so sure. What is your take on what happened? I didn't think that Rachel knew she was going to die. I took it that she genuinely believed she would be saved. Harvey was the one who appeared to know that she wouldn't be saved.

I enjoyed how one of the streets was cicero. A little nod to chicago.

I thought the Joker gave Batman Rachaels location which was Harveys and vice versa to trick him, but Bats didnt seem all that surprised when he saw it wasnt Rachael...

I interpreted it as the Joker gave Bats the right directions, and he was going to get Rachel but changed his mind.

The Joker assumed he would go for Rachel and she blew up first - which meant Batman would have died had he gone there.

I can't wiat to see the movie again. So many questions!

Nah, the Joker definitely gave him the wrong directions because he knew Batman would go after Rachel, and get there faster than the cops. So instead, he gave him directions to Dent (maybe Joker wanted him to be saved instead of Rachel as part of "the plan" to make Gotham's "white knight" crazy? Or just to make Batman sad about not being able to save Rachel? Probably both)

And Batman didn't have enough time to be surprised, he just had to get whoever was in there out as soon as possible

Nah I dont think Bats changed his mind, if he did it wouldnt make much sense. If he changed it right before he told Gordon he was going for Rachael, then why lie and go for Harvey instead? If he changed his mind whilst making his way there then both parties would have appeared at the same location.

I'm actually heading off to see the movie again. Can't wait!

kemo91 I agree with you

Concur.

Batman/Bruce doesn't show his feelings - he just does what needs to be done.

also the Joker probably wanted Dent to live, thus giving Batman his location but telling him it was Rachel's.

The thing I don't get is, if "it's all part of the plan" than why does the joker go after those with plans? wouldn't he be anti-plan?

It's not his plan he's referring to, it's the fact that other people need plans to make sense out of their existence.

He says (and I'm paraphrasing), "If I say I'm going to kill someone, nobody panics because it's all part of the plan." People would be expecting it.

yeah joker knew batman would go for rachel so he gave dents location in disguise

he wanted rachel to die to drive harvey over the edge

u can sense during the hospital scene that joker wanted harvey to live

Thank you! I've been trying to make sence of that allllllllll day! If you where here I'd Hug you!

he told batman the wrong directions just to piss him off

Yeah as soon as the scene played out where Batman had to save Harvey I knew right away Joker gave him the wrong directions. He switched them around knowing Batman would go for rachel but he want harvey to cause it was all part of the plan!

This is also paraphrased, but I think it's slightly closer (unless I got some lines mixed up): "If some gangbanger got shot or a truckful of marines blew up, nobody would bat an eyelid, because it's all part of the plan. But if I shoot one little old mayor...then everybody loses their minds."

The Joker did have a plan. He said he would give Gotham a better class of criminal. He gave them Two-Face. He planned Harvey Dent being saved and he talked him into giving into his Two-Face persona.

The whole thing with rescuing either Dent or Rachel at the warehouses is one of the only problems I had with the film - it wasn't made clear if the Joker switched the locations or not. About half the people I've talked to thought I did and half missed it.
I definitely missed it when I saw the movie, and I thought it was a bold and interesting choice to have Batman save Dent instead - showing that he really was resting his hope's for Gotham's future in Dent's hands, enough that he would sacrifice his closest friend and love interest for the greater good. And then I found out that Joker switched the locations.

Yeah, I thought the Joker's rant against 'plans' doesn't make any sense because clearly he's established and executed several elaborate and meticulous plans throughout the whole movie. But I think that you're supposed to think that on a certain level, and it either adds to his insanity or it was just something he was making up to get Dent to go crazy.

Dent dies...He's batman forever (no pun intended)
I just wish there was a bigger scene for Rachel, I really liked Maggie in the movie. She did a much better job than katie holmes, and I would of liked to see more of her in the movie.

Another thing I was surprised was, there was no flash backs at all, which I thought begins had a lot of.

I'm pretty sure the idea behind giving Batman the wrong addresses is so that whoever he deems more worthy of saving or decides to help, he ends up going after the other one... Just one more joke.

No, Joker gave Bats the right directions. He only told Gordon he was going for Rachel so that way he could kill two birds with one stone: with Gordon thinking he would be going to resuce Rachel, the police would head down there to her location, expecting him to be there already, while instead he goes to get Dent.

Or at least that's how I saw it, because he really wasn't surprised to see Dent.

^ I assumed because Batman was going to save Rachael, Gordon was heading to Dent's location.

No, he was going for Rachel. Gordon repeatedly shouts the address Joker gave as Dent's address.
