I don't know. I totally see what you're saying. It depends on what look you enjoy.

It's apparent they removed any "muscle shading" to the suit this time around, and I think it's the first time they did that with a Spidey film. With that done, it may give the possibility that the person in the suit, Andrew G, could look less muscular.

I really enjoy the lanky, lean type they've gone for. Reminds me of USM. Plus, you gotta keep in mind that he's playing an 18 yr old. Can't be too much muscle.

Yeah there's an in between super-bulky and just giving the suit a more defined look. I think that's one of the reason's the new suit looks a little "cosplayish" in set photos due to the fact it sort of look like any random joe could behind the mask regardless of how fit they are.

Ideally spider-man should be built somewhat like a gymnast or an olympic swimmer. Not bulky but wiry and cut.

I think garfield could get a look more similar to that with the suggestions i provided. I think the costume would probably look almost perfect as well.

I wish those two and this whole conversation was jettisoned off into space to freeze and float for infinity.

I posted this originally in the AG thread but it's actually more of a costume related matter:

Does anyone think maybe garfield should have or still could add some more muscle to his frame? It's just with the way so many of the super-hero actors are devoting themselves physically to their roles you'd think garfield could follow suit?

I know spider-man is always more wiry than buff but even in his skinnier incarnations he's always pretty ripped.

Garfield's spider-man has always seemed a little shapeless to me?

That skinny but "cut" look is pretty much as trademark a look of spider-man as superman's buff look is.

If you take a look at what they did for the MOS suit they were able to keep Cavill's muscle definition by simply having the costume material molded around his actual muscularity.

Now they could do the same for Garfield if he just bulked up a bit and use a similar process for the suit. He's naturally quite lean so it's unlikely he would ever become quite as bulky as cavill but he would at least have some definition added.

They did that with the Raimi suit, and it ended up looking bloated.
Cavill's suit looks bloated too but it works because Superman is supposed to be like that

No, what they did in the raimi suit was pure muscle padding. It was pretty much this whole under-frame and shoulder padding under the suit.

The MOS suit is very different it's much less padding and more shaping around the natural contours of cavil's body. If you see the shots of him shirtless they pretty much match-up to the suit but of course with more definition added.

The tech on super-hero costumes has improved a lot in the 10 years since spider-man. The current TASM is so close to the classic comic look but just missing that spider-man physique.

He's not missing Spider-man's physique.

Spider-man is somewhat tall and lanky yet toned and cut.

Like a Cirque du Soleil acrobat.

Not short and stubby like Tobey Maguire or Tom Cruise.

Actually looking over some pics of garfield his physique isn't actually that bad for the role, he does have that lean semi-ripped look and is arguably better suited than toby's.

However again i think that's the issue of the costume. If they used the same material and application as they used in MOS i think he'd look great in the suit.

True. I guess they were aiming for something else when they removed the muscle shading. Guess we'll find out.

They should add some subtle muscle shading too complement Andrew's physique even more. Now I don't think it'll ever look as dynamic as Spider-Man in comics but it would still be better. Though the way Andrew's Spider-Man already looks in the suit a lot better than Tobey's Spider-man ever was

^ Oh yeah. Tobey and their stuntmen looked so "stubby". TASM is all lean for the most part. Except for those photos we got of Spidey spying on Osborn.

agreed. also, I would like to mention even though I really appreciate for Webb making the costume more in line with classic one for TASM 2, it really makes me scratch my head that they didn't make the design a little bit more sleek and edgy. Again, I support the use of the classic comicbook Spider-Man costume, but as far as I'm concerned they are allowed to edge it up at least a little. While having the design mostly solid and not making it too busy, but the red parts, especially the belt and gloves, could've been cut up a little and the shape of the belt could've been more dynamic

can´t wait to see the costume in action

same here. I hope the texture of the costume is more present in the actual shot footage than it is in the set pics, or even in the first official pic we got of the costume

So I'm new here, so I'm kind of late to this thread, but the new costume imo embodies everything I love about Spider-man. The eyes give him that innocent friendly look that he should always have, with Andrew being skinny, it really gives you the feel of him being a teenager, and this suit with the belt kind of being bulky, gives you the feel Spidey is growing and becoming more muscular. Lastly, I always thought that last suit was to big in terms of the timeline the story took place in the movie, but as a kid when Spiderman 1 came out, I still have very fond memories. Btw this how I feel Spidey should look like. http://red.olm.net/~nytoys/website/marvel_comics_spectacular_spiderman_196.jpg and http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4p7ruFPZb1rtbcayo1_250.jpg and lastly https://www.google.com/search?q=mar...draws-the-best-spider-man-d-757054%2F;550;506

The suit is gorgeous. The only way they can improve it is to remove the raised webbing and make the webbing black instead of silver.

I'm expecting to see how the CGI rendered version of spidey will look like. They tend to make the models a little more cut

The new Suit looks good except for that thick belt.

wow, that stuntman's hair...

It actually is black webbing, the pic was just took in the sunlight, so it looks silver:yay:
