This seems like a fun, stupid argument...I'm in!
So you agree with me that Whiskey Tango is wrong to ***** about how the webbing on Raimi's suit in the sun was silver and therefore a crappy looking suit when this suit while not as silvery is pretty much the same thing?...I called it silver in a "relative and general sense of the word".
I think you misunderstand the relationship between color and the specularity of material. The bold would be entirely inaccurate, as silver is NOT gray.
And once again...it is silver when the webs are reflecting light...
Silver is NOT grey. Silver is based solely on the specular reflective quality (ie: mirror finish) of the material, not the actual pigment. Yes, the intensity and hue of light can change the appearance of a color, but since it is not pigment that determines silver, a color cannot magically become silver when light reflects off of it. And no, simply because a material reflects light does not make it silver. ALL things relflect light - it's how we see color. But glossiness does not automatically equal silver.
which was designed like that for a reason
Yes, you are correct that they choose the material to have a high gloss in order for the shadows and highlights to be more obvious, giving the webbing a sense of depth. But again, this is NOT silver in any way, shape, or form.
Here is a color diagram of the different webbing. On the left we have the ASM2 suit, and on the right we have the SM3 suit. Below is the primary color of each suit's webbing, with examples of both highlighted and shadowed sections. These colors were taken directly from the photos using Photoshop's eye dropper tool. (note: the beveled edges of the SM3 suit are colored black, to give the webs more depth, while the webs on the AS2 suit are not beveled, and are all one base color).
As you can see, these two sets of colors are no where even close to being in the
same, or even similar family. The SM3 suit, due to it's silver-like material, reflects lighter colors, such as blue. The ASM3 suit, however IS grey. Yes, it does have a gloss finish, allowing for better reflection of light, but that, once again, does make it silver.
So yes, these web designs are similar, but only so far as they both have a gloss finish. That, however, is where the similarities end.
