I like it about as much as I like TASM's costume, which is a whole lot.

Also, I love the web pattern on the bottom of the boots.

but you realise the problems that literally using the raimi costume would cause, right? you know, in terms of audience confusion, the identity and integrity of this new franchise... etc etc.

i understand you don't like new the costume, but cripes.

This might sound completely gay but the groin area looks better that the Raimi costume,blends in well with the rest of the costume

The eyes are the best thing about the costume

All we need to see is a smooth transition from the old costume or an explanation about why he changes it and we'll be good

i think any explanation will be tacit at best.

most likely they will establish that a decent amount of time has transpired since tasm1 ended, and in that time spider-man changed his costume. his frequent exploits as spidey in the interim between movies likely will also serve as a justification for the new suit (old one got worn out through extensive use)

IMO, this costume is inferior to what came before in the Raimi films and TASM. But I do grant that these are just the set pics. I may very well change my mind when seeing these in promo images and the trailer.

But right now, not a fan.

There was nothing wrong with the eyes. On either the Webb or TASM costume. They looked good for film. IMO, the current lenses are too big. They look, IMO, a little silly. And the webbing never bothered me. The whole costume from Raimi looked fine. I did have some issue with it.

Like the red on the arms and torso being too thick. And fair play, the TASM costume isn't that thick. But the costume just looks cheap in the set pics. And the eyes are one of my biggest gripes (along with the belt. I prefer Raimis belt).

But I am looking forward to seeing some promo images of the suit on how it would look on film and a trailer with it. Maybe then, my mind will be changed.

Well, I have just seen the set video of spidey with Dillon.

In motion, looks much better (still not liking the eyes).

Now I can't wait to see more promo images and a trailer.

it looks kind of satin-y and a little cheap in some of the poorer setpics I've seen. But the ones yesterday erased whatever doubts I had. It looks phenomenal in those and will no doubt look even better onscreen.

The eyes are perfect, I'm afraid I can't budge there.

I get the reasons some think it looks "cheap". Both the Raimi suit and the ASM1 suit had some really nice, polished aspects with a lot of small details. This suit seems "simpler" in comparison - no texture on the red, simple, non-beveled webbing, and the texture/pattern on the blue is more subtle. But even still, people have always complained that the movie suits look too expensive and "professional" for Peter's ability, and here we have a simpler, "cheaper" version that appears well within Peter's construction capability (yet still looks good), and people complain that it looks cheap, which was exactly what they were wanting months ago. I don't get it.

The ASM suit was terrible looking in set pics, but looked good in the film.

I suspect that the ASM2 suit is somewhere in between. It looks pretty good in set pics, but it's true potential won't be known until we see more official images.

At this point it would seem backwards if he had an expensive looking suit in TASM and a cheap looking one in TASM2.

But the recession hit hardworking folks like the Parkers hardest so I suppose they could say he needed to save on material costs.

Eh..I'm feeling like you won't like the suit even in the film. You've made your dislike of the suit very clear...that's all I ever see you post about, and that dislike goes goes straight to the fact that you think the ASM design is superior. I'm sensing a bit of bitterness for the change. Simple as that.

Actually, I did mention I did watch the video where spidey was with Dillon. And I said that the suit in motion is much better than what I've seen in the set pics. But still not a fan of the eyes.

And bitterness? I have no bitterness towards a costume change. It's a simple matter of what looks better to me. But, as I said after seeing it in motion, seeing how it looks on film may convert me fully.

Spider-man's costume should be relatively easy for the public to replicate, so the cheaper look is a good thing in my opinion.
Nothing about the stories ever implied that there was anything special or particularly flashy about Spider-man costume. I remember on multiple occasions in the stories that people would go down to the store and get an imitation Spider-man suit, and no one would be able to tell the difference even when standing next to the real Spider-man. Flash was mistaken for Spidey a few times when he bought a suit. In James Cameron's script, Spidey actually ends up wearing a store bought costume because it's more professional than his own.

It's not the costume that makes him Spider-man it's the powers/webshooters. Just standing around, Spider-man should be indistinguishable from some normal guy in a halloween costume.

Still view it as only slightly better than Raimi's costume, but only because of those magnificent and glorious eyes.

Everything else makes me want to see Webb's first suit though.
