As a sci-fi film it looks great. But as a Fantastic Four film, it looks terrible.

Wasn't the complaint that they weren't talking? What's the problem?

Was it really so difficult to release the few things they've released all of a sudden months ago to try and quell any complaints?

Must have been.

Ive never heard commentary for a teaser period. Simultaneously released no less.

What does this even mean?? Everyone keeps acting like we have gotten a good Fantastic Four movie before or something...

No actually their anger comes from NOT GETTING a good Fantastic Four movie before...and not seeing much of a change from that.

It means the looks and tone feels like nothing like a great Fantastic Four film should be like, the Kirby/Lee comics which are considered its heyday and most popular run.

Just because a movie is a good film does not automatically mean that it is a good interpretation of the source material.

You could take Citizen Kane and change Charles Foster Kane's name to Charles Francis Xavier, but that doesn't make it a great X-Men adaptation.

Or a character in a film.

Quicksilver in DOFP was a very good character with some great scenes, but as an adaption of the comic book character he was pretty dire, the costume and characterisation were completely different.

This doesn't even feel like Byrne or Waid.

Although people keep mentioning how "critically acclaimed" Jon Hickmans run is. Maybe Johnny will get his guts dissected or whatever that was all about.

This makes no sense. We don't know if the film will be good or not until it comes out. You can't judge a movie on a short teaser.

Can you be specific? They have the same powers and they're still a family presumably. It does have a little darker in tone because they're trying to differentiate from the other movies.

Interesting teaser. They clearly want to distance themselves from the previous mess they made, obvious Nolan tone, whether that turns out to be good or bad, we shall see.

From comments I've read its clearly not something actual F4 fans were hoping/expecting though so maybe knowing little of the source material in this case helps me, but it at least made me interested in the F4 for once.

I'd say its better than the Ant-man teaser but below Avengers and Star Wars.

I'll give it a 7 for now but could go either way still.

Nolan is right.....LOL! Wasnt that the same plane Bane was being transported in?? :awesome:

Except I feel like I've seen where this argument goes.

Raimi, majority opinion wise, made good Spiderman films until 3. Then they need a reboot and the barometer changed. We didn't get a good Green Goblin and etc.

Now we're on the possible third reboot chasing some elusive "fools gold."

Apparently the Raimi movies are now quaintly okay or something. TASM sucks, and we haven't gotten a really good Spiderman film yet.

I feel Marvel Studios has fostered some weird us vs. them mentality that only they can properly do these characters. And when they do change something like Mandarin, fans react like they betrayed some contract not to change the character's core elements. Marvel wasn't about to put that racist caricature on screen and they know it, but now the issue is under the rug and never to be discussed again like TIH.

it means they think it looks good as a movie which is the most imporant thing but as an adaption of the comics it's based on they think it doesn't seem enough like it.

It stumps me a little as Fantastic Four is all about Science and exploration which when put to film would be called Science Fiction

Oh hey, wasn't it Matthew Vaughan, I think a producer or whatever on this movie, who said people were tired of "grim and gritty" superhero movies?

And now some people are praising this for looking grim and gritty?

The world is just awesome. Boomdeyada boomdeyada

Except the tone wasn't the problem with those movies.

It was the poor writing, direction, and effects.

Make those better, keep the same tone, and you've got good/great FF movies.

There was no reason to change the ****ing tone this drastically except the studio/director willed it.

Casting?

Dude, they made two movies. It wasn't working. The cast lacked chemistry.

As someone who doesn't care what studio makes a Fantastic Four movie I found the trailer to be underwhelming especially considering how long it took them to release it because they wanted to wait for it to be perfect. To be fair I found the Ant-Man trailer underwhelming as well but at least that can be attributed to Marvel rushing it out, this film doesn't have that excuse.
