Justice League Re-cast Hal Jordan for JL movie? Yay or Nay? - Part 1

I would keep Ryan Reynolds as Hal.

But that's it. They should leave it ambiguous to whether or not Green Lantern is canon.

Warner Bumbles wouldn't have to include it if they didn't want to since the GL movie will be 8 years in the past by the time a JL movie comes out.

I have mixed feelings on the Rock announcing that he's not John. It makes sense for Warner Bumbles to use the GL who everyone knows, but a larger-than-life actor can take a lesser-known and make him/her into a household name. It would have been satisfying to see Rock wearing the GL symbol on numerous magazine covers, but just the Rock-as-John rumor got John more mainstream mentions than he's ever had. I'm thankful for that.

this needs to happen RR as Hal and Idris as John, and suit looks great on pic... GLs power glowing between muscle fibers...awesome. it needs to be cgi...

I didn't find Reynolds' Hal as offensive as others, and whilst I'd rather see Hal done well before moving on to tue others, I'd rather have Idris as John than a Reynolds sequel at this point.

reynolds was good, script and direction was off

Should they get someone other than Ryan Reynolds or stick with him?
Please state your reasons.
When I initially thought about GL, I thought they should stick with Ryan Reynolds and just push their initial idea further. Simpler, more effective, makes sense, and with another director, it could have given him a second breathe. I still stick to this idea most of the time. They could always play with that later and have a JL story/film playing with Parallax or a new GL.

But when I heard the rumor about the Rock being GL, I couldn't help but get excited and smile all day hoping it would happen and anticipating how amazing that would be. A Black GL, a powerful one, with personality, and the Rock, and the fun, and the charisma... Man just do that. Just do that. I know it's just a rumor, but, how amazing that would be. How truly great and fun that would be. This rumor got me so excited. Him being GL is definitely a yes-ticket for the film.
In fact, I have so many hopes for this damned rumor, that I'll be sad whatever happens differently. :/

Pretty much how I would prefer they do it; Reynolds has all the right tools to be a great Hal, he just needs a better movie to be in. Ultimately GL was a turd (for many reasons) and thats why i think no one but the fans will even remember it come production time. Theres no baggage stopping Reynolds from being used in an ensemble piece next and then (hopefully if the audience responds to him being used right) possibly in another GL movie which makes up for the 1st one.

The thing is, GL would have to be a Hulk level show stealer. And that's harder to do in a film with Supes and Batman.

I think Reynolds, Hal and GL are box office poison at this point. GL effectively killed Reynolds' career just as it was hitting mainstream prominence. I feel bad for the guy. But then he should have had more savvy.

Of course I blame the filmmakers for Green Lantern over the actors who didn't direct or script the film. That being said, Reynolds performance was okay but not good enough to lament a recast. Like even business wise, he's a flop magnet, why keep him?

Exactly, i really had high hopes for Reynolds as GL but he let me down in the role. The film is alright, and i have it on dvd on rewatch it every now and then. But he didnt do enough to carry the film. Just recast Hal or move onto John Stewart.

I do think Reynolds is a talented actor and I defended him to the hilt when he got the role but I too walked away wanting more from him in Green Lantern. If the even use Hal in JL I agree that there are better choices out there.

My opinion on the film is that I thought it was decent on first glance but it didn't even hold up to that faint praise on second viewing. It's just too bland and boring of a film IMHO.

If the movie skipped on the Hector Hammond angle and focused on the Parallax threat, then I don't think that we're even having this conversation. Reynolds can't control that.

They also setup what could have been an epic sequel.

.

He's been somewhat vague about the possibility of a return, but it seems unlikely that we'll see him as GL again. He's got a lot on his plate these days with various projects coming out, and the negative buzz around RIPD has got to have him questioning whether the comic book genre is right for him. Plus, there's the possibility that SvB will kill any possibility of Warner Bumbles doing a JL film.

I agree with all of this. I didn't think GL was as bad as many make it out to be but it's not a film I'd watch over and over again like Man of Steel, the Nolan Batman films or most of the recent Marvel films. And while I thought Reynolds was fine, I would have no problem with a recast. In fact, I think I'd prefer it just so people might finally stop talking about how much they hated the GL film and move on from it.

Scratch Hal and those awful costumes from that piece of **** movie & I'd go see it. If they don't give John a solo film, they should make a GLC film focused on these 2 as John & Guy. That's money!
I'm getting the feeling that the more realistic tone GOTG seems to be taking w/the Nova Corps will be what WB should have went for w/GL.

Guy is an acquired taste, so I don't see Warner Bumbles gambling on him in live action. A GL franchise with all of the titular Lanterns would be wonderful, but it would take a delicate, intelligent handling that Warner Bumbles doesn't presently possess.

GL in general is an acquired taste. I think that Guy can be a perfect foil for John and if WB does it right, the GA would eat it up. John &Guy are both more suitable for live action than Hal IMO. Unfortunately, I agree w/you on WB. They've made some boneheaded, smh decisions in the past &it seems like they'll continue to do so in the future. I don't think they know how to make GL work in live action

Guy would be better suited for a TV show like Arrow than the big screen. John and Hal both have their flaws, but those are clearly outweighed by their strong moral centers. Guy's heroic characteristics take a long time to uncover, which seems suited to episodic storytelling. But introducing a character who is vehemently disliked by the other heroes seems like a tough sell in 2 1/2 hours.

Guy's better with Kyle. I'd watch the hell out of a Kyle/Guy film.

Guy respects John, but he's come to have a brotherly affection for Kyle.
