Justice League Re-cast Hal Jordan for JL movie? Yay or Nay? - Part 1

I definitely think they are steering towards John Stewart. Idk if i like the rumored Dwayne Johnson for the role, but he's a big name with tons of history w/ WB.

But, if they were to stick w/ Hal Jordan, WB has recently and more consistently started working w/ another big name actor who imo draws a larger audience and more star power. Tom Cruise. I know i might get flamed for this suggestion but while at 51 years of age. Tom Cruise is a proven actor. Known for his action movies, and the fact that he remains fit and almost if not always does his own stunts. He would also bring the more mature wit and charm as well as charisma that Reynolds simply couldn't deliver as Reynolds most always comes off as goofy or silly. And Cruise simply looks like the character.

Not a horrible suggestion for Hal, but very unlikely. I doubt any big names wanna touch Hal now. They're better off just going with John Stewart

I love Tom Cruise, but as Hal Jordan? No, just no.

I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to John wearing a mask, he's done so at times in the comics, but certainly not this one.

He's a little long in the tooth, but he's played military types, including a pilot. I think he would be interesting in the role.

lol. I'd be 100% against that. I've seen him wear that silly mask that Hal put on him for about 1 second before he threw it on the ground. He's too cool for it. That black man lets it all hang out!

Cruise just doesn't have a "superhero" look to me. If he were cast, I'd ultimately give him a chance out of fairness but as it stands, I wouldn't be interesting in seeing him actually get the role.

If they were just gonna recast Hal Jordan I'd prefer someone like Jensen Ackles, that's a pretty badass suggestion, imo.

BUT, what I really want is for Dwayne Johnson to be cast as John Stewart. Then I'd be the happiest nerd on the planet.

Tom Cruise? C'mon.

Warners/DC should look (again?) at Green Lantern as their Iron Man in terms of deadpan wit. GL and Flash should be the comic relief-bit of the cast...Adam Scott would fit the bill I think.

I'd love Ackles as Jordan, but to me he kinda wants to stay under the radar aside from his work on Supernatural. He's stuck to voice acting and thats pretty much it. It's a shame because he could be a really big name in Hollywood, and fits the bill for a terrific Hal Jordan.

^Mind just went to a dirty place. I couldn't stop it.... :wow:
lol. Right now there's an executive in a board meeting saying "John Stewart should ONLY wear the ring". If they ever do make a successful GL film, you can bet some studio will make a porno version.

I was referring to what John says here

Wow. Dialogue really was embarrassing at times, wasn't it?

I wanna see Hal come back just so some of you could complain about it.

Make Hal as Parallax the villain against John, Guy and Kyle. Cast Cruise and BAM, ticket bought.

Well he was invented to be almost be a stereotype... Somehow in an attempt to promote diversity.

You'd have thought they'd learn, but no, they just made Simon Baz too.

John was a hothead when he was young. He wasn't opposed to the mask later on:

Plus, it wouldn't be a difficult thing to do. I still don't know why the GL movie went with the uber-expensive CGI energy mask when it could have saved money with a simple approach:

I really don't have a preference, I just want JL's next costume to be simple and sleek.

I do. John doesn't wear a goofy domino mask in the books anymore. He didn't wear one on JL/JLU. It makes no sense to give him one in live action. Not wearing one is what people are used to. It looks better in live action that way and it provides further distance from Hal's failure of a film.

I hate to tell you this, but there is no way to distance John from Hal, even if there is no mention of Hal in the JL film. John's comic origin came from Hal and there were 2 versions of animated JLs with Hal before John. That's kind of like wishing for Rulk detached from the Incredible Hulk.....not going to happen.

John's comic origin coming from Hal means something to comic fans...ONLY comic fans. The animated JL versions w/Hal aren't even an afterthought. They weren't very good(everybody on the team had the same personality) & didn't make the impact the one w/John did. They didn't elevate Hal to icon status w/the GA. They weren't game changers or bar raisers like the version w/John was. The version w/John is the version that all versions(and all animated comicbook superhero team shows) before or since are measured against. The 2 w/Hal are honestly irrelevant here, as is Hal's involvement in John's comic origin. Hal's godawful movie is the only thing John needs to be distanced away from & that might be very difficult considering just how big it failed. That's why they need to play up all the ways John's different. Not wearing a silly mask is one of them.

It already did. JL/JLU detached John from Hal with ease.

Yeah, No....Too short.

I guess we completely disagree here, too. JL/JLU isn't any more influential than the '60s JL or the Super Friends. In fact, since Super Friends ran for 109 episodes over 10 years, the most logical argument is that it's the most influential.

Regardless, those were all kid shows with simplistic character development. If WB/DC really wants to elevated John's name/image recognition to that of Hal, they'll get him into the animated movies ASAP. Doom, War, and Flashpoint are being billed as "events" and they are geared to an older audience.

Yeah, No....Too short.

Robert Downey Jr. is only 5' 9". Filmmakers always find a way to shoot around an actor being short.

Tom Cruise is a full head shorter than Been Affleck, though. Probably more, as actors tend to lie about their height and age.

I vote for a Affleck to have an official name change. :woot:
