Sequels Recasting the X-Men for the MCU

No to Victor Garber as Professor X.

Never let this guy on a plane. :o

It's Bomer.

Lol. Interesting pick.

Rodrigo Santoro for Gambit. They could easily put a Latino in the role of either Gambit or Iceman because Latinos are known to be playfully flirtatious, not dirty per se but definitely flirtatious, even sultry I've heard and this is just a generalization of course. Santoro kind of has that charm or allure to him.

I don't think Fox will ever beat this choice though! We'll see what Marvel does.

Matt Bomer is perfect for Northstar.

for Cyclops I think he lacks a certain vibe.

Bomer would be such an amazing Northstar. I’m dying to see him appear.

It’s a shame Tucci has already appeared in the MCU because he would have made a fun Charles

I think the main X-Men (Cyclops, Jean, Storm) should start the franchise as College kids like Ultimate X-Men (18-23) and younger members could be around 14-17 years old i.e Bobby, Kitty, Jubilee, Darwin, Colossus etc. We need longevity for the X-Men in the MCU; Marvel will be looking to secure it's future for the next 15-20 years, we need people can carry the MCU for at least a decade and a half like Tom Holland, Brie Larson (who was 26 when cast) etc. So while they don't have to be High-schoolers like XMA - they shouldn't start as 30+ year olds either

Cyclops candidates I put together in the 19-26 range

'Descendants' Mitchell Hope (24)

'Darkest Minds' Harris Dickinson (22)

'Red Band Society' Charlie Rowe (22)

'Edge of Seventeen' Blake Jenner (25)

Bonus:

Veronica Powers as Kitty Pryde (17)

Candidates for MCU Jean in the 19-24 range

Madison Lintz: (19)

Madison also has the right height for Jean at 5'8. And keep in mind that X-Men won't start filming until 2020 at the earliest so Madison would be 21-22. I'm thinking long-term here.

Amy Forsyth (22)

Ariane Rinhart (24)

I think all factors considered, Lintz is my favorite of these 3 because she seems the most comic Jean-esque and she checks all of the required boxes.

Bobby Drake. Now for Bobby, I think Marvel could go back to Spider-Man shortlist from 2015. Particularly the youngest members:

Charlie Plummer:

Judah Lewis:

Matt Lintz

All great young actors. Oh, and Bobby should definitely be gay. No need to beat around the bush. Him being the youngest member would make the burden harder to bear; being a mutant and a gay male, a double minority. But it could be his character arc in the movie - accepting himself for who he is, learning to not care about what others think.

These two should've been Northstar and Aurora: Joe Jonas and Camilla Belle

They could've worked out their differences as a former couple to work on a film together. Besides, they wouldn't be playing a couple now but brother and sister. :o

They look like brother and sister, and like the comic characters.

Matt Bomer doesn't really look like Northstar. If he was a Superman candidate, well Northstar doesn't really look like Superman. Joe Jonas looks more the part.

You know what would break my heart? Logan Marshall-Green as Wolverine. Not because he wouldn't be good (or because he's already got the first name), but because Tom Hardy has come up a lot as a pie-in-the-sky pick for the role, and LMG is just now finally getting the "discount Tom Hardy" stink off with Upgrade beating Venom to the punch.

Neither of them will be Wolverine, both too old (Hardy will be 41 soon, LMG will be 42 not long after), Marvel will need someone who can stay in the role for 10-15 years without visibly aging too much.

Plus, LMG was already in Homecoming.

Marvel United, I liked your suggestion of KJ the best. He has a natural leader type of vibe in Riverdale that I like for Scott.

just the thought of another young version of the X-Men on the big screen....

giphy.gif

Give us adult X-Men again, please.
and Marvel should try to do something as different as possible than Fox latest version. We already got Sophie, Tye, Nicholas, Alexandra and co. The best approach would be to do the opposite at Marvel studios. early 30s X-Men. Just think about Marsden back in 2000's X-Men, he was fiiiiiiiiiiiine as hell, and getting closer to 30. We dont need to go much younger, not after Fox young version.

an adult cast would feel more iconic.

I disagree. Expecially with most MCU heroes being between late 20's and early 40's. I think the X-men should be younger. Maybe not all of them, but most of them. I wanna see them grow into those iconic superheroes, if we start off with the X-men in their 30's i would feel like i missed a whole part of their adventures. Lots of inetresting stuff would have to have happened off screen which is a waste.

I like the original first class to be in their early to mid 20's and look it. The "Giant Size" class can be a mix of early 20's and teens.

chadwick boseman (40), gal gadot (33), elizabeth olsen (29), all of them are adults, yet they look pretty fresh.

I honestly dont see general audience interested in young versions. FC and Apocalypse numbers prove that. A mix of both ages would be the best route, in any case, just like x-men original trilogy.

characters like Kitty, Iceman and Jubilee are perfect for teens, but the rest? not that much. its long overdue we get adult Cyclops, Im pretty sure 90% of comic fans would agree. They need adult and leader Cyclops finally on the big screen, not a leader in process Scott (again).

Jonathan Groff would be pretty perfect for Cyclops right now.

Thats like saying because of the fact that both Sony versions of Spider-Man started as High-school students, the MCU version should go the complete opposite and start him off as a 28 year old science teacher, already married to MJ and expecting their first childs soon. Despite the fact that it's detrimental to longevity and character development; despite the fact that it would be a lot harder explaining why a Spider-Man pushing 30 didn't help the Avengers in any of the countless world-ending threats being a seasoned vet. And Spider-Man is street-level, the X-Men and mutants in general are a much bigger deal than Spider-Man. There's no way a group of 30 yo X-Men have never fought any of their villains and there's no way nobody would have noticed it by now.

Casting younger allows Marvel to secure these actors for at least the next decade and a half and it allows the audience to properly become invested and grow with the characters the same way we have with Tony Stark, Peter Parker, Thor, Steve Rogers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. If you rush into a Claremont 90s era X-Men with 30 year olds who have already gotten past most of their most significant hurdles and arcs, you're robbing that from the audience. It will be a repeat of the Singer X-Men all over again.

Seeing the younger actors grow into the Claremont era will be much more rewarding in the end.

Same. Him, Rowe and Blake Jenner feel like the most classic Scott to me i.e Honorable, boy scout-ish. I did not like Sheridan at all in the role of Scott- not just because of his physical attributes but because of his acting style and the way he played the role.

I also think Harrison Dickinson is a really good choice as well. Check him out in this clip, this is the kind of commanding presence that Scott should have:

spiderman is the eternal teenager.
the x-men are not.

I think they are two completly different cases that we cant compare. the audience loves and know Spiderman as a teenager. the X-Men on other hand, at their peak on movies and tv, were adults (original cast and the 90s show). That should give us a little clue.

Who said they have to be young teens? They can be young adults. An 18-23 year old Scott who has been leading the team a couple of years can still struggle to lead the team and grow into the version of him we saw in the 90s Claremont run and the Astonishing run. He shouldn't start as a 30 year old man who has already figured everything out. That should be the resolution of his inner conflict by the end of the second movie.

And FC and Apoc are not proof of anything: certainly not proof that a young X-Men can't work. Because technically, Apocalypse outgrossed both X1 and X2 both of which did feature a 30 yo team. The GA does not have a problem with young characters, they have a problem with bad films. And First Class was great but it suffered because of the stench of X-Men Origins: Wolverine

No, you're wrong, in earth 616, Spidey was clearly a young adult since he's in college in 1965 and he was already close to 30 in 90's during the clone saga. :sly:

But i'm ok with you : spidey was at the beginning a teenager and that's how the mainstream audience love him.

Spiderman's Tom Holland is 22 and it's safer to have as few minors as possible starring in X-Men. I'm for an adult team too. One teen character would do like Jubilee in the 90s animation but the actors shouldn't be minors.

This is especially true when fans have been waiting for years for a mature X-Men team, since X2 concluded actually.

New Mutants is a great cast to explore younger characters with and I think Fox already has a very nice cast for this team going. I wouldn't mind seeing them stick around, like Deadpool.

I think main X-men in MCU will be as young as Maximoff twins. Or almost 30. Younger than main Avengers (Stark, Rhody, Sam, Clint...)

If Magneto is a WWII child survivor (about 10 during 44-45) Charles and Erik would be around 80 yo post Avengers 4

Here's some of my thoughts. Assuming an X-men movie is a few year away. EDIT: I don't know why the images aren't showing up. I haven't really done this a lot before. So I'll add the links.

These are rough estimates but, by Avengers 1's release date in 2012:
Scarlet Johansen (Black Widow) was 27,
Chris Hemsworth (Thor) was 28,
Chris Evans (Capt. America) was 31,
Downey Jr (Iron Man) was 47,
Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) was 44
Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) 41.

Avengers 2 was released in 2015:
Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) was 26
Paul Bettany (Vision) was 44

Avengers 3:
Chris Pratt (Starlord) was 38
Zoe Saldana (Gamora) 39
Dave Bautista (Drax) 49
Tom Holland (Spiderman) 22
B. Cumberbatch (Dr Strange) 41
Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) 40

I see a trend I like here.

By Avengers 4 we'll get:
Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) 28

If we get X-Men in Avengers 5, I am hoping to God they are all in their late 20s and up because we need a mature X-Men team movie!!! Fox never gave us one with a mature Cyclops, Beast, Rogue, Storm, Gambit, Wolverine, Psylocke, Angel, Colossus, Jean, etc.

New Mutants has a great young cast already and they have several important characters yet to be cast, including: Magma, Karma, Cypher.
Also, the X-Men usually have ONE rookie to put on their team or to take as a sidekick in Wolverine's case. We've seen Kitty Pryde, Jubilee, Rogue and X-23 (in the Fox universe), Armor in Whedon's run (I never liked this character by the way), we've seen Colossus' love for his little sister Magik as well. But we don't need all of them to be in their early 20s.

Mature, late 20s early 30s X-Men is sequel bait. Not what they should start the franchise as imo

I love how people say Marvel would never cast people pushing 30 for a franchise... meanwhile back in reality Chris Pratt was in his late 30s when cast as Starlord. Smdh.

Preach that's why I still love
Scott Eastwood as Cyclops
Lily Collins as Jean Grey
Kylie Bunbury as Storm
And Dustin Clare as Wolverine
