Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

Mark Kermode said ''it was rubbish, but alright rubbish''. :funny:

So I saw this. I love Resident Evil with all my little heart. It's probably among my absolute favorite intellectual properties on earth. That said, I really really ****ing hope this is the last of these movies. This one is better than the last, but the lack of give a **** on display from the Director is astounding.

I just want Resident evil go back to it's core. The mansion. Whole storyline of first Resident Evil game, has so many cinematic moments. Tight halls, cut out from the world, not many ammunition or weapons (making feeling of suspension), make ordinary zombies scary again. And whole mystery and what is wrong with The Mansion, together with whole S.T.A.R.S mystery as you explore mansion, just to get pieces of the puzzle it's actually secret umbrella facility for BOW. As they need to surive and get out of the house, but somebody isnt letting them do that as someones trying cover it up.

I really think with good horror director who is also fan of the game can do wonders with this property. I mean storyline write itself. You dont need really CGI or action flick stunts.

This last movie really upset me with its lame swerves. Ruined everything to close it out.

Seems like the director directs each movie based on gimmicks

3D is hot? Put 3D in the title

Superheroes are cool now? Make Alice into a Superhero

Superheroes are cool now? Make Alice into a Superhero

Not entirely disagreeing, but hasn't that been the gist since Apocalypse?

I'm still wrestling with should I see it, or just wait until video?

I thought this was pretty entertaining. The action is better than most RE movies and it wasn't that cheesey. I felt like Anderson stepped up his game espevially with the action pieces especially this is the final chapter But
Alexia giving her childhood memories to Alice was so cheesey
. My main problem though a lot of the new faces were just canon fodder, they were just there to get killed and somehow they just went along with Alice just like in the previous movies. Claire and Wesker were also underused especially at the climax. There was no crazy mutation at the climax but given the reputation of this series, they definitely kinda went out in a better note. Like I thought this is better than Warcraft, Angry Birds and Assassin's Creed. I also like the timer, it reminded me of the videogames.

I am gonna miss the series for its cheesefest, I liked that these films are low budget yet they don't look so low budget. Milla also carried these movies and I like her a lot. But I am also ready for a faithful adaptation so hopefully that is next.

I'm still trying to kill immortal jack or joe (dont remember his toothless name). I'm also very low on ammo.

Oh, you bastahs talking about these crap films.

Milla is still hot af tho.

The Resident Evil movies reminds me, when you're watching any competition show, like Top Chef, you'll always see a contestant managing to get by, and make to the final rounds by being just average. You know..not awful, not great, but enough to stay afloat in the middle and off the judge's radar.

But when the contestants grow smaller and smaller with each episode, eventually he/she can't step up to the plate to compete with the others.

This last RE movie will make its money back ONLY because it was made on the cheap. It's a bit of a technicality. But no one is really talking about it, it's not a critical darling, and has a below average at the box office. I think the RE as an IP have so much potential in Hollywood, instead of just "floating by".

And yes, while both RE and Underworld can be entertaining as fun movies, it's time to move on. For nearly 20 years, these movies still wear their 'Matrix' influence proud, but the world has moved on. I HOPE in a few years from now, RE can get rebooted into something credible*. Even the games had to recalibrate itself from time to time (RE4, RE7) when things get stale or overblown.

*Judging from VG adaptions, it'll be a longshot at this point.

I think if I tolerated Anderson's Re movies, I think I could tolerate a new Re movie series if they just use the actual characters from the game and be faithful to the premise of the games. Like they could just compile all cut scenes from Re1 videogame, turn it to a 2 hour movie. It won't get great reviews but if its faithful and similar to the video game , I'd be content. Also, if Sony could make these films under 70 million, they could do it again with the reboot series. Re1 to re3 are all set in 1 city and they aren't even that action packed.

This movie barely even made a ripple domestically, it won't even reach $27m, but it is absolutely exploding in China, and nobody can seem to figure out why.
It's opening day in China is roughly $36.5m, the 3rd biggest opening day for a foreign film ever, and it could well do over $200m there.
What makes this even more bizarre is that the last RE movie did just $17m total.

Early Saturday numbers are pointing to at least a $90m opening weekend, with a shot at $100m

Good God!!!

When I'm in the mood to put my brain in neutral, stick on a really dumb action film that stars an incredibly hot woman in tight/revealing outfits, and sit back, these (and the Underworld movies) fit the bill!

America always depends on China.

I smell a SEQUEL. Lmao.

These films get such a bad rep, but I'm not ashamed to say that I'm actually quite a fan of the first two, especially Apocalypse. I know they aren't like the games, but the movies are the reason I even got into the games in the first place, so I appreciate them for that atleast. However, this franchise really went down hill after that third movie which was just ok. Afterlife and Retribution were bad and this new one was even worse.

I'm hearing it's about to make a killing in China, so I doubt this is that last we will ever see of these movies, but I'm hoping they do reboot it and do it the right way, because Anderson has more than overstayed his welcome.

It looks like it will miss hitting $100m OW in China, but it has done $33m Friday and $35m Saturday for a total of $68m so it will be in the 90's for the weekend.
Go figure.:crso:

They can probably pull off a road trip movie with Alice & friends simply driving around & killing the last remaining monsters & finding ways to spread the cure more faster
If it happens I'd bet every cent I have that road trip will go through China at some point.:woot:

Glad these are over, hopefully we get a much more faithful game adaptation at some point.

I've been saying since 2013 that when they do reboot this franchise I hope they get someone like Gareth Evans to direct. The guy has already shown he can craft some amazing action sequences with The Raid films, and his short film in V/H/S/2 shows he definitely has talent when it comes to horror. He'd be the perfect choice in my opinion, but sadly I don't see a studio like Sony being that ambitious.

It all depends on if there's money in it. RE7 the game was a critical success, but I don't know how it did financially. The movies are still making decent bucks so if there is a sequel to this I'd expect more Alice shenanigans than a reboot.

This should be the last Alice outing. This is like the 2nd time they've tried to sorta retire that character.

‘Resident Evil’ Rocks China With Record $94.3M Debut – International Box Office
Screen Gems/Constantin Films’ Resident Evil: The Final Chapter blazed into China this weekend with a $94.3M debut to score the biggest-ever FSS opening in the market for an import. The Milla Jovovich-led epic zombie battle is also the No. 2 FSS launch for all films, behind 2015’s Lost In Hong Kong. As Anita Busch reported on Friday, the Paul W.S. Anderson-helmed sixth installment had an opening day Middle Kingdom gross of $33M, the third-highest ever for a Hollywood film.

The sensational China debut for The Final Chapter — whose title may end up being premature given these outsize grosses — catapults the market into the lead position, overtaking traditional No. 1 hub Japan. The film was released in China through Constantin’s local partner Leomus Pictures and benefited from a very targeted campaign with early in-cinema materials and advertising during the heavily-trafficked Chinese New Year holidays. Jovovich also attended Hong Kong’s CineAsia where she met members Chinese exhibition community and received the franchise achievement award with her director/husband Anderson.

The $40M movie was built for international audiences and is showing its strength at offshore turnstiles with a $212M cume to date which makes it the biggest of the franchise on a constant currency basis. In total this weekend, the gross was $97M from 21,200+ screens in 51 markets. Including domestic, the worldwide cume is $239M. The current leader among its predecessors is 2010’s Resident Evil: Afterlife with $296.2M.

In late January, Final Chapter helped push the full series across $1B worldwide to become the biggest video-game-based franchise of all time.

China has something against Star Wars, haha. Rogue One barely got 60 million over there.
