Definitions of Laser on the Web:

1- A medical instrument that produces a powerful beam of light and can produce intense heat when focused at close range. Lasers are often used in surgery to vaporize tissue.

2- A very pure and intense beam of light formed within a crystal, or the device that creates the light. LASER stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

3- A device which produces an intense, coherent, directional beam of light by stimulating electronic or molecular transitions to lower energy levels.

4- A device that emits a highly coherent beam of light.

5- Today, a laser is considered to be any device that emits an intense, coherent beam of light

WHAT THOSE DEFINITIONS FAIL TO TELL YOU, IS THAT LASERS APPARENTLY.....ACCORDING TO 'DUHNALYS.....PRODUCE "MAGIC" LIGHT, WHICH IS INVISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE. :o

intense, coherent, directional beam of light. that is the physics definition. do you know what coherent means in physics.

Depending on the type of laser, ever use one of those cat laser toys? More often than not you cannot see the beam, just the dot on the floor where pussycat can see it. Ever shoot a gun with a laser site? You can only see the actual beam under certain circumstances. In a brightly lit room you cannot see it. In a dimly lit room you can barely see it. The only real time I saw mine was in the middle of the night while out shooting rats. Even then you really could not make out the beam very well. Crimson Trace (makers of my laser grips) uses the strongest beam legally allowed by law for these sites.

you only see laser light when is hits something. be that particles in the air or a surface. and it's directional meaning it has no ambiant quality. it's no good bringing definitions if you don't actually know what the words mean in the context of physics.

Whatever tangent you wish to go on off to, still doesn't change the fact that it is a beam of light which consequently means it has the property of illumination and directly contradicts your statement about a laser not being able to light up the environment around it (even though the pictures Mentok posted disprove your words).

I KNOW WHAT COHERENT MEANS......AND YOUR BRAIN IS INCAPABLE OF COHERENT THOUGHT. :o

if a light wave is coherent it means the waves of two light sources are aranged in phase so that it actually isn't visible until something throws it out of phase, like hitting a object or none transparent particle.

here educate yourself http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coherence_(physics)

YES, WE ALL KNOW THAT; FACT IS, UNLESS A LASER EXISTS IN A VACUUM, OR OTHER CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO AVOID HITTING SAID PARTICLES. GET A F***ING CLUE ALREADY. :down:whatever:

nope it takes specially putting particles in the air to make the laser visable in transit. don't pretend to know stuff you don't. you've demonstrated no knowledge of what coherent or directional mean to be able to do so. normally particles in air are transparent hense why you can't see them in natural light either.

fenrir. "a laser" can mean the actual beam and the actual beam only lights a small point in normal conditions. the whole point was to show that those beams cannot be lasers under the conditions shown. perhaps i could have been clearer.

Again, going off on a pointless tangent. How exactly does that refute your jackass claim of a laser NEVER being able to light up the environment around it? Here, I'll even quote that asinine post of yours for you:

who are you to dictate the rules of giant energy weapons. ever see a laser light the environment around it?

You do know that you have now contradicted yourseld by admitting that a laser beam CAN light up the environment when it is rendered visible under certain conditions (as Mentok's pics clearly show) as oppose to your earlier statement.

You're just one big bag of blunders, aren't you Danalys?

the light you are seeing from the laser is not actual laser light tho. it is light produced in an interaction. a rare interaction that only happens under controlled conditions. lasers are directional it's in the definition you brought up meaning they wont cause ambiant lighting it's all small scale reflections and that requires special circumstances. completely different from any situation in game, or any points you guys tried to make.

want to move onto plasma now?

LOL......POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK. :wow: :D

LOOK, 'DYCKLYS', YOU'RE NOT FOOLING OR IMPRESSING ANYBODY BY YOUR ABILITY TO QUICK-REFERENCE 'WIKIPEDIA' OR USE GOOGLE. IN FACT, YOU'VE ONLY PROVEN THAT, EVEN WITH THOSE TOOLS, YOU CAN'T FIND A WAY TO FEIGN COMMON SENSE, LET ALONE PROVE YOU POSSESS ANY.
YOU'VE DONE NOTHING IN THIS ENTIRE THREAD (AND MANY OTHERS), BUT PROVE YOU ONLY KNOW HOW TO TYPE OUT LENGTHY, POINTLESS, AND OFTEN CONTRADICTORY BULLS**T POSTS. WHETHER YOU HAVE A 5TH GRADE EDUCATION, OR A DOCTORATE, IS BESIDE THE POINT......YOU SIMPLY AREN'T AN INTELLIGENT PERSON. SOME THINGS JUST CAN'T BE FAKED. :o

It is all getting a bit on the petty side. Arguing over what weapons would cast which lighting effects, blah blah blah. People are arguing for the sake of arguing.

you have an inability to recognise intelligence Thwip*, simple as that. i say something intelligent you say it's rubbish then i try to find authoritive sources to back up my claims. that's an intelligent way to do things. rather than just fobbing stuff off thinking you know stuff you don't.

this stuff happens to intelligent people all through out history. it can take decades for some stuff to become commen knowlegde. the people just like those who laughed before take it as standard information. it's a pretty sad predicament. but part of some one being more intelligent than some one else is they work out things the other is incapable of. in that case it requires verification or trust. you guys will do neither. this is why when i learnt the stuff i learnt about light, we actually did experiments with lasers. it was repeating other people's work to verify it. if you haven't done stuff like that you just don't know. it's like in early science lessons they ask the kids to put their hands up if they think heavier object fall faster. 70% of them do. then they teach them about gravity. and they think well that was obvious. but it actually wasn't to most of them. if you knew what a laser beam actually was this stuff would be obvious aswell.

OH, I CAN "REGONISE" INTELLIGENCE JUST FINE........BUT I'M EVEN MORE ADEPT AT DETECTING IGNORANCE AND BULLS**T.

AND I JUST HIT THE HIGHLIGHTS......YOUR GRAMMAR IS SO ATROCIOUS, I CAN'T IMAGINE YOU HAVE MORE THAN A 5TH GRADE EDUCATION. :o

yeah i fixed that spelling already. spelling does not equal intelligence. i think you've got a handle on ignorance and bull**** but you're getting false positives :)

NO.......IT'S RECOGNIZE, YOU DUMB S**T......AND YOU STILL LEFT THE REST. :whatever:

you're right but i don't care. i'm making a point rather than winning a spelling competition.
