Fantasy Robert Eggers' A Christmas Carol

Cue the “But it’s been done so many times already” but mother****er, I don’t care.

I never knew I needed a version of A Christmas Carol to give me nightmares (and not just because of a horrifyingly bad CGI Jim Carrey).

Give us a new nightmare before Christmas, Eggers.

It's a 10 out of 10 film.

I don't care that we're just getting this news today and cameras aren't rolling. All you had to say was Robert Eggers PLUS Willem Dafoe.

I actually have a soft spot for the Jim Carrey/Robert Zemeckis version. The CGI didn’t age so well, but Carrey is fantastic as Scrooge.

That said, doing a new version of A Christmas Carol is just tradition at this point. The last major one was I think that Andy Serkis/Guy Pearce miniseries.

We’ve had muppets, looney tunes, Mickey Mouse, Mr. Magoo, musicals, contemporary versions, Americanized versions, gender swapped, Patrick Stewart etc.

Me seeing Robert Eggers + Willem Dafoe trending and assuming it was about Werwulf but then seeing what it really was:

Realistically, I'm not expecting this to be a traditional adaptation. It's Eggers, so it'll probably lean more into the horror aspect of it though maybe not as extreme as, say, Nosferatu. It won't replace the Muppet Christmas Carol as my gold standard adaptation but I'm more than open to this, especially if Dafoe is Scrooge.

If it's a horror version you want, you're not going to find one more unsettling than the 1971 animated version made by Richard Williams and starring Alistair Sim:

1971 A Christmas Carol

Honestly, looking back, the whole setting/visual palette of Nosferatu did feel like it could’ve been an audition for this.

Bring Oldman back as Marley.

Serious casting choice: Ralph Ineson as the Ghost of Christmas Present

Even more serious casting choice: Andy Samberg and John Mulaney as Gonzo Charles Dickens and Rizzo

This better go hard on the horror elements. I want to freak out to Jacob Marley and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.

Nicholas Hoult for Tiny Tim.

Don’t ****ing argue with me. Just do what Peter Jackson did with the Hobbits in LOTR. :o

They had me at Eggers and Dafoe! Can't wait to see how Eggers is gonna handle the supernatural elements. Those are some of my favorite parts of his movies.

Robert Eggers A Christmas Carol...oh how sweet that music sounds.
God man, im already drooling just at the thought of this.
I need it like RIGHT NOW.
