Robin Hood Reboot: Avengers Style

I can't quite tell if this is an alternate reality or if the twist is it's actually 2098 and man kind is starting again after wars etc but the whole tone is just off.

It almost looks like a hack job, cheap with no real thought into quality and realism.

My bets are on it being set in the future but like you said mankind has started over but perhaps the villain of the film gets their hands on a more modern weapon of some sort.

I lasted exactly 30 seconds before I shook my head. It's terrible. This is the result of someone over thinking a concept.

I swear to God if I see Ben Mendolhson's weird ass pursed lip sneer again in a movie....

Saw the teaser

First thought: HA! This is what they call their "gritty" take on Robin Hood

also this gives me so many King Arthur Legend of the Sword vibes

So this is going to be the box office turkey of Thanksgiving.

Just with the poster and the font, it already looks terrible.

I just want to meet the studio exec who walked into the writers’ room and said, “You know what Robin Hood really needs? Molotov cocktails.”

The whole pitch this was sold on was actually a shared universe multi-part Robin Hood franchise.

Don't know what it is about Hollywood and Robin and King Arthur. I guess it's sort of like intellectual property you know, but anyone can use it. It's not copyrighted material.

I’m surprised no one has made a Robin Hood vs. King Arthur film yet.

I liked him in Ready Player One though even if it was a little over the top with some of his actions

For some strange reason Robin Hood is the one public domain character that no-one seems to be able to make something good out of.

I think that's because they keep trying to turn him into something he's not. Robin Hood is not a dark, gritty story. They're supposed to be romps. You can do some serious things but it's easy to overdo it.

I think that's why the Flynn version is the most successful. He was able to pull off both the swashbuckling stuff and the darker moments and the movie had a good balance of both. Most recent adaptations go all in for the grim stuff and the movies aren't fun to watch.

If they can find writers who can get the balance right and find a star who can handle both aspects of the character, then we might see a franchise.

Good Robin Hoods have been done in the past, but everything has been done with Robin Hood by now. Classic adventure films, more serious epics, cartoons with talking animals, tv shows, parodies... We've seen it all. And unlike something like Sherlock Holmes where you could in theory just write new mysteries for him to solve forever, with Robin Hood it is the same basic story every time.

Yeah about a lot of those were years ago. I think Robin Hood is stilla character that's not bad to adapt. I just don't know why it's so difficult.

Same with King Arthur

Yeah, but you can still watch those pretty much any time you want. Most of them are even repeated on tv all the time. Plus it isn't like Robin Hood needs a bunch of modern CGI and special effects. It isn't supernatural like Greek Mythology or even King Arthur. There isn't much to be gained by simply having a modern take. Unless Robin Hood is going to fight Godzilla or something.

Yeah but that still doesn't mean they age well or will relate to a new audience. We can use that excuse with a lot of stuff. A Robin Hood or King Arthur movie with modern sensibilities is great on paper. I dont know why they don't get how to make it good.
