EXCLUSIVE: Wachowskis, Warner Bros. Take Aim With 'Hood'

Andy and Lana (formerly Larry) Wachowski are returning to the Warner Bros. fold with Hood, a modern, urban take on the Robin Hood myth.

The Wachowskis wrote the script and will direct the tale, which in keeping with the modus operendi of the duo, is shrouded in secrecy.

The pair are already reaching out to actors, with insiders saying Will Smith as one of those who they reached out to.

While a take on Robin Hood may not be much to go on, knowing the proclivities of the duo, it will undoubtedly have a brand of visual take and their comic book-fused pop art sensitivities.

The Wachowskis have been working on their Iraqi war movie, CN-9, told from the point of view of archeologists piecing together events from the U.S. occupation of Iraq using found footage and includes two male soldiers falling in love and a plot to assassinate George W. Bush.

The hot button project has been slow to find financing, although the pair have shot some talking-head sequences with Arianna Huffington, Salman Rushdie, Jesse Ventura and Cornel West.

Warners has been the home to the Wachowskis ever since 1999’s The Matrix. The relationship went through a challenge with 2008’s flop Speed Racer but the pair did give the studio first-crack at CN-9. Hood clearly shows there are no hard feelings.

The Wachowskis are repped by WME and Circle of Confusion.

I can't bring myself to be interested in anything the Wachowskis do anymore.

I'm thinking that they'll use the money made with this flick to fund their gay IRaq movie.
This movie sounds comemrcial enough and we know that Will Smith can make even a mediocre movie make millions.

Eh. For some reason I just can't shake the feeling that this would seem redundant.

This will either be cool or terrible, there's no middle ground here.

Why is WB doing this instead of Green Arrow? -___-

who says they're not doing 'Green Arrow'? HMMM :P

I'd be more interested in either A) a sequel to Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, or B) a Green Arrow movie. Heck, why are they doing this and not Green Arrow? You'd think that it would be a pretty logical business move...

My problem with this is that...everyone on Earth knows the story behind Robin Hood. By making it modern or futuristic doesn't change the themes. It's the same story with a new coat of paint.

Unless there's giant robots and alien ninjas, I'm not that interested.

I'm sure the Wachowskis will make it interesting.

Heck Yes. Matrix 3 was bloody awful but if movies could be eaten Speed Racer would be the most delicious platter there is.

I hope they make this fun, interesting, and cool. Good action and good story.

I think the only reason Warner Brothers is agreeing to let these chuckleheads waste even more of their money is because they've convinced them that they'll be wasting less of their money this time. Their only hit since The Matrix Reloaded was V for Vendetta, and they didn't even direct it. What exactly did they do that got them so thoroughly entrenched at Warner Bros?

It's a shame that that wacky futuristic movie with the gay soldiers trying to assassinate George W. Bush didn't get made. That would have been a flop of such unprecedented magnitude that they would have at least gone out with a bang! This movie sounds like it will be just another whimper coming from the wreckage that was the Wachowskis' once promising career. To think that there was once a time when Andy and Lana Wachowski actually made good movies, and they both had penises. I hated the Matrix sequels so much that it's actually depreciated my enjoyment of the first one to a degree. :csad:

(BTW, I did love Speed Racer, but the Matrix sequels and Ninja Assassin were s*** and V was a very bad misrepresentation the source material.)

Wow. Just read the plot details of that Iraq war movie project. Gotta give them credit for their originality but I can't believe they actually thought a studio would get behind them on something like that.

Already been done

Are these guys still relevant in hollywood? I havent liked them making anything since the matrix reloaded. I will look for these 2 in the obscurity line next to the farelly brothers.

Will Smith as urban Robin Hood

Yeah, no thanks.

Normally I would out right say NO to this...but because it's the Wachowskis's, i'm curious.

They have been pining for Smith since he turned down Matrix. But a movie called Hood with the lead character played by a black actor? Yeah, this one won't be prone to constant jokes.

It could be cool. I'd rather see this than that lesbian Iraq kill the president idea.
