Rogue taking the cure - wrong message entirely

What if someone is born with no eyesight? Is it wrong for them to accept a treatment that would allow them to see? Why does everything about 'mutant powers' in the X-men films have to be equated to race? Some mutant powers COULD be equated to a defect that would be morally acceptable to be 'cured'.

Not every mutant power is cool. Some of them could be easily considered a curse. Especially one like Rogue's that could kill people. None of us could imagine not being able to just touch people! Geez!! That's a nightmare.

Here you have super sexy and georgeous Storm telling Beast that it would be cowardly to take the drug. I'm glad he told her, "you don't shed on the couch".

The sad part is that I think Rogue will be disappointed. If what we saw with Magneto is any indication, the cure is only temporary.

I send another big BRAVO!! to the person who wrote the eyesight point. I was about to say something along that line.

Actually I believe this was an unexpectedly brave move from the creative team of this movie. Rogue is a nice girl, has saved a few lives and no one can deny her heart's in the right place. But her power is both a blessing and curse, and I know that's a cliche, but in her case it's completely true and not just a nice phrase. What I'm trying to say is, hats off to her for doing that. She deserves to lead a full life, not just a half life in which you cannot kiss, hug or plain touch your loved ones. If that means losing her powers, well, that's life, thank god there're many others who can save the day and don't have to pay such a high price for being a hero.

Someone set an example about "choosing" to be gay and and having the right to do so, without being sent to a camp to "cure" you. A small but important correction, being gay isn't something one chooses, it just happens.

I think the movie did a nice job portraying the mutant gene antidote dilemma from every angle (the weakest one being the bad guys, who, as usual, are one dimensional cardboard cutouts who are evil "just because". With the possible exception of Magneto).

Some mutants don't look human at all. Some had scales and some had fur. I'd at least want to look human.

I also agree with the totally blown over issue of whether she'd even still fit in at the Mansion not being a mutant anymore.

I think there could be a lot of interesting potential for that issue in the next X-sequel/spinoff of the Young X-Men. I see no reason for her not to continue seeing Bobby (she's not against mutation, she was just against her mutation), and it could be pretty controversial and interesting to see not everyone at the mansion accepting her since she's no longer a mutant.

The Young X-Men spinoff seems to be setting Iceman up as the leader for the younger guys, wouldn't it be interesting if he has some issues with dating a non-mutant? Then they could really introduce the Bobby/Kitty/Rogue triangle (was glad X3 didn't introduce it.. because THEN it would have sent the wrong message with Rogue taking the Cure just to win over Bobby). Plus, Kitty seemed to have respect for Rogue when she mentioned her to Bobby in her room, what if she's offended over Bobby not being attracted to Rogue now that she's human?- wouldn't it be interesting to Kitty taking offense to Bobby not wanting to be with Rogue and not allowing him to have physical contact with her either? Just speculating away.

So yes, it would be cool to see her stay at the mansion, but not quite fit in since she's no longer a mutant.

The way I see things happening is. If theres an X4 / Kiddie Sequel. In the beginning Rogue gets **** on & made fun of / & being called things like ***** for taking the cure. Rogue goes home & her Parents welcome her back thinking shes cured. Then one day Rogue discovers she has some other Powers & the one she hated the most is now gone. Parents kick Rogue out after some Power Displays. Rogue goes back to the Mansion gets called names like ***** etc then does some Power Displays & everyone gets shiat scared of Rogue that kinda stuff

Rogue taking the cure sends a terrible message to children. She should have appeared at the end and explained why she DIDN'T take the cure.

Rattner and whoever the hell wrote the script didn't understand the X-Men's message of understanding and tolerance.

You can't just say everything in the films needs to be about understanding and tolerance- its a lot more complicated than that. This film tried to focus on a controversial social issue (so in that way, I do respect your opinion, although I disagree with it), and people have brought up good points. There have been a lot of examples- cancer, curing blindness, I gave one of the deaf subculture and how allowing deaf children to hear is bringing up controversy- but it doesn't mean that because of "understanding and tolerance" those scientific advances should be forced out the window- in the least, people should be granted their choice.

Plus, I'm sure "Ratner and whoever the hell wrote the script" know what understanding and tolerance are- the reason you couldn't see those messages is because the movie had nothing to do with it. It's better that way- issues can then be presented and it leaves some ambiguity as to right and wrong, making it more interesting. Besides, this is an X-Men movie, not Care Bears- let's have everyone be super best friends in a different franchise (although Beast's ending where he goes to the UN made me double-check that...)

I agree. I think a lot of folk forget the X1 stuff, and choose to focus on the X2 stuff, particulaly the scenes in the Drake household.

One can look at this way, but one (like me) can choose to look at the progression of MovieRogue from X1 to X2, which is in the spirit of the progression of ComicRogue, and then BANG! in X3 she's X1 Rogue again. Not at all in the spirit of the comic, IMO. Yes, I'm biased and more than a little selfish. In addition to my issues with the Curse itself, I love my badass ComicRogue.

See, its people like you that I feel sorry for with these films. I love all 3 x-movies, and I can't stand the hardcore fanboys that will make fun of the films for not having every aspect identical to the comics, but then there's people like you that are fans of the comics, and just remain calm, civil, and patient with your fingers crossed, and I just can't help but feel bad for you because the films will never coincide too much with the comics (maybe if there's a reboot decades from now, but even chances then will be a toss-up).
