Rosemary's Baby Remake Scrapped

22 December 2008 7:57 AM, PST

The movie producers behind a planned remake of 1968 horror classic Rosemary's Baby have dropped plans for a new film.

Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have been working on a way to bring the tale, based on the 1967 novel by Ira Levin, back to the big screen.

But the pair has been forced to admit they haven't been able to conceive a fresh angle which would make a new version credible.

Form tells Collider.com, "We went down that road and we even talked to the best writers in town and it feels like it might not be do-able. We couldn't come up with something where it felt like it was relevant and we could add something to it other than what it was, so we're now not going to be doing that film."

Could the remake frenzy be ending now?!

I don't know yet. Fuller and Form seem intent on seeing a remake of The Birds after their Nightmare remake kicks into gear next spring. (And that remake has Naomi Watts and Martin Campbell attached.)

Holy crap, they were going to remake Near Dark? Thank god that didn't happen.

Thank all things holy that didn't happen. I'm so sick of remakes...especially remakes of classic films that are already close to perfection.

Well, projects have been scrapped before only to be resurrected some time later, so you'll never know if a Rosemary's Baby remake still will happen in the future. But for now it's nice to see some unnecessary renmakes being scrapped

Thank God. The last thing we need is more remakes, especially of horror movies.

Glad to hear that it's at rest for the moment. Hopefully it stays that way.

THANK GOD! This could have been as bad as the Psycho remake.
