The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Rotten Tomatoes score? - Part 4

I'm not even paying attention to the RT score anymore. I loved the movie and nothing will ever change that.

Wow, I'm so cliche.

Some posters attach too much importance to RT rating and cinema-score, the system is not perfect, but it gives approximate indication of the movie's quality.

What I am saying is - Go and watch the movie yourself.. then decide.

Seriously, RT score, user rating, IMDB, it's all worthless. As Bruce says, you'll never know until you see it, it's like saying "oh yeah I know it's gonna suck, don't need to see it".

Perhaps, but we've all seen movies that we believed was not worth the price of admission. And thats when critics and word of mouth comes in. I like this movie and I've paid to go see it but I believe some things could be better and if everyone goes to see it to decide then every movie makes a billion dollars and we won't get improvement on mediocrity.

"The Rotten Tomatoes score sucks, so I'll make a judgment of my movie using my own opinion" cliche *ding*

:woot:

I haven't seen the movie, but not everyone is upset with the movie most of my friends seem to like it.
I am using the omnipresence everyone. I don't mean literally everyone. But all the measurables, including both RT scores indicate apathy.

I haven't posted on IMDB in years. I don't know how you do it occasionally. :funny:

On RT, TASM2 is struggling both with the critics and the fans. It is just apathy from everyone.

I've seen plenty of fans say they love the movie.

But they are also usually accurate. While I like both IM3 and TDW, after reflecting upon them I think their RT scores were correct due to their inherent flaws. I haven't seen TASM2 yet, but I think the score will probably be just as true as it does for other CBM.

Box office doesn't pove anything. Spider-man movies tend to decrease, even Spider-man 2.

The only Spider-man movie to increase in any way was SM3 and it hardly deserved that distinction.
Why do people bring up Spider-Man 2? It opened in June, not the repeated record breaking first weekend of May like this film.

But fine, forget box office. The reviews are bad. A good chunk of the "fresh" reviews are barely fresh. And this is after the "divisive" first film. IF the first film was divisive, how can a film with a much worse critical reception be considered the same?

RT is not worthless. Most movies that get over an 80% or good and most movies under 49% are bad.

It's just that movies between 50-79% are in a grey area where quality is highly debatable.

I'd say most films 70% and above are usually considered good. 80%+ very good etc. 45-60% is in the middle - as about as many like and dislike them.

RT though also skews with genre. Male skewed comedies invariably score a higher avg rating than female ones. Action/Superhero/Fantasy films get a bigger pass for being generic and predictable than Romantic Comedies. Edgier, weirder dramatic films get a bigger pass than sweet or more conventional ones for being messy or uneven.

Reviewers not only skew heavily male but with so many blogs and internet critics and outside of Top Critics it also skews young. Just as IMDB is very much a fanboy skewed site - where The Prestige rates higher than Laurence Of Arabia and Citizen Kane.

What Messiah is saying is that clearly a 54 is the same thing as a 73.

Well look at Superman Returns and MOS' RT scores.

Most people think MOS is way better despite what the critics say.

If a movie gets between 50 and 79% on RT the quality can be highly debatable.

That is right, because SR and MOS are relevant to a discussion about TASM2.

I think it's reasonable to say that ASM1 and ASM2 were both divisive.

Just because ASM2 has a lower score doesn't mean everyone hates it.

I think MOS is a reasonable example of this.

Why can't I mention another movie in this thread? That shouldn't be considered derailing.
Because C. Lee said don't do it. But if you want to keep going, do it. Enjoy your infraction.

And no one is saying everyone hates TASM2.

I think we're back on topic.

Someone should get an infraction if the thread is actually derailed.

People are divided on ASM2. More so than ASM1 where most agreed it was average. ASM2 is a love/hate movie for fanboys like some other superhero movies with a 50-79% score.

IMO TASM is a lot better than TASM 2.

I liked it a lot and I knew the change in tone would mess up what they created with TASM, I knew it.

I can watch TASM once every 6 months or so and greatly enjoy it.

If we can't compare RT scores for reference in here then there is really no point to this thread as it walls off a big part of the discussion in relation to the subject. :/

Last I checked the score dropped to 54% Critics, 74% Reviewers
21 voters chose the most true representative

It's 54% critics, 76% reviewers.

I did not expect this to really rank lower than Spider-Man 3 in critics review
This one is rotten, Spider-Man 3 is fresh, not the best tomato in the basket, but a fresh one

The rotten tomatoes score doesn't matter to me I liked it a lot more than the last two Spider-Man movies and those have a higher score

I better stop going off topic because C.LEE likes for us to just chat about this RT score in here.

The posts I delete are NOT comparing RT scores...they are talking about what people liked or didn't like about other movies with no mention of RT scores.
