Sequels Routh needs to change his trainer and nutrionist for the sequel

:whatever: I know that but i was talking about the supposed ideal type of body that women want.

There is no one type.

I have several female friends who strongly prefer tall, skinny guys. Yes, skinny. Not built. Think Janet near the beginning of RHPS: "I don't like men with too many muscles."

I've known women who like big, bulky guys and prefer a football player's build (running backs, presumably, not linebackers). I've known others who are only into legs and prefer soccer players or bikers (we're not talking motorcycles here). Some prefer basketball players. Some, gymnasts. Some, yes, swimmers.

I've known women who prefer men to be much taller than they are.

I've known women who prefer short men. Bearded men. Bald/-ing men.

Yes, there are women who like big, muscular guys. Not all of them. And they certainly don't agree on which muscles they prefer to have extra-large.

So if someone is surveying a thousand or more women on their preferences for male body types, they'll need to average the results and NOT just take the result that has the most votes. The whole survey idea is pretty stupid anyway, as I said earlier. If the guy onscreen is sweet and nice and charming and articulate, his exact build and even his looks won't matter as much as SatEl suggests the moviemakers think is important.

Not that we'd turn down some great screen views of an on-screen hunk, of course. But watching brainless eye-candy isn't nearly as much fun - as appealing, shall we say - as watching someone with all of those other qualities but less than an "ideal" build.

I just read an article about Brandon Routh's training regiment and diet in preperation for Superman Returns, and all my question's about Routh's physique were answered in a couple of paragraphs, and I just want to add in before I get started that yes, he wears a muscle suit.

In the article, Routh says that while training for Superman Returns, he mostly stuck to circuit style weight lifting, which is for the most part machines, and ate alot of fruits and veggies for his diet. I was in f-ing amazement after reading this article. That is NOT how you bulk up for a superhero role in which your character you play is supposed to be a bulkier guy. I know Routh was doing what he was told, but damn, change up who your listening to. Even Tobey Maguire hit the heavy wieghts and drank six protein shakes a day along with pasta, cheese, and what not, and even then all he got was really cut, where as Superman should look like a big strong farm boy, ala Tom Welling.

Brandon, for the sequel, hit the big heavy weights an hour a day and scarf down all the food you want except fast food and pop. And then, about 4-6 weeks before filming, clamp down on the diet with more lean proteins and less carbs.
i think his trainer did just fine.

Is this really still a debate? Or did I drive a little to fast in a Delorean?

I had no problem with Brandon Routh as Superman. Reeve's performance was superior, especially in his embodiment of the more heroic side of Supes. Routh might be able to affect that as well, but the script for Superman Returns was just more sombre than the Reeve flicks.

The only "stand up and cheer" scene was the jetliner rescue (though that was one awesome scene), so there wasn't much for Routh to grin about. By comparison, remember Reeve's introduction to Metropolis as Superman? He catches Lois and says, with a grin (like he's having fun), "Don't worry, miss, I've got you!" There were no moments like that in the Returns script for us to see whether Routh could pull off that side of Superman - sheer joy in being a hero.

No, what bothered me about Routh was how the new suit looked on him. The guy was in very good shape, just as good as Reeve, but the suit as it was designed made him look lanky rather than powerful and commanding. Now here's the same suit design on a videogame version of Routh:

Notice that on a Superman whose physique is like the one we see in the comics, the Returns suit actually works! But Routh doesn't have a physique like that (and neither did Reeve), so the suit has to be designed differently in order to achieve the same powerful effect in a live-action version.
