Rumor hidden within the latest and lengthy LITG

im sorry, the "post mtv generation" this current generation of teens, the ones previous to them, and the one i came from (the real mtv generation) are all for the the most part blithering idiots... i hate MTV and everything it stands for as well as its idiot liberal agenda... vote or DIE! diddy said so! *******s...

Bleh, that reminds me of when I was out to lunch the other day. There was this girl (I'll throw out there that she's fairly wealthy) with this other girl, both can't be older than fourteen, and she had the audacity to say, "Anybody born before 1987 is old." And laughed.

So I made sure, back still turned, to say, "Anybody born after 1990 is full of ****."

The Leaguer said:
The only explanation behind what you're doing is that you suddenly realized that I was right, and tried to change the context in which you were arguing, because I never compared the yellow bug thing to the real world.

I implied that, in comics, things like secret identity concealment can be taken for granted, while things that have a six-issue mini-series devoted to them cannot.

I compared one comic thing (secret identities) to another comic book thing (Rebirth).

It's not that f***ing hard to understand. For your own good, please work on your reading comprehension. Maybe you should consider being tutored by that handicapped kid.

Here's where this all started:

The Leaguer said:
Who cares if it makes sense? It's a comic book.

you see? you claimed that it doesn't matter if superman's secret identity makes sense or not because it's a comic book, which i took to mean that as an aspect of a fictional character in a fictional universe it's trivial. then, phere shot back with this:

Darthphere said:
We can use the same argument in arguing Hal Jordan and his yellow roach problem.

to which you responded:

The Leaguer said:
There's a difference between sense and lame-ness. The logic behind how Superman conceals his identity is trivial. Jordan's deal is so huge it extends into the "f***ing idiots" realm.

since we're talking about two fictional characters in the same fictional universe, how is it that one aspect of a character (superman's secret identity) is any less trivial than an aspect of another character (hal jordan's allergy to yellow)? both aspects have played heavily in their respective character's histories, so if you want to try and claim that one is trivial, then logic would dictate that the other is as well, especially when comparing them to the real world. hence, my response:

sinewave said:
wrong. if one's trivial then they both are.

i probably should have clarified that instead of using a simplistic statement like that, but then again, i was foolishly counting on you to respond back to that with an actual viewpoint that was more detailed than "wrong". so, you dropped the ball by sticking to your standard egocentric ways and assuming that you're the only one who could ever be right in any debate, instead of actually engaging in that debate.

I KNEW you were going to remark on that.

The ramifications of Clark's identity being secret, null and useless. It doesn't effect him any more than most characters who follow that idea.

Parralax WILL be affecting the GLCorp as a large whole.

Now, if Clark's identity were to become public, and it effected him for pretty much all time, THAT would not be trivial.

Yay! Let's join in in the absurdity!!!!:D I can be a bigger geek! How fun!:woot: Look:

[nerdy voice]First of all, Hal Jordan has never had an allergy to yellow. Have you seen him sneeze uncontrollably? Watery and itchy eyes? Respiratory distress? Break out in hives? No. The word you're looking for in all your attempts at being highbrow about this petty argument is VULNERABILITY.[/nerdy voice]

I know I'm stepping in an argument that doesn't concern me but it's getting to be annoying. What Leaguer is trying to say is that Superman's ridiculously hidden secret i.d. is trivial, it's a small detail. Whereas the yellow impurity that gave the GL Corps a (much needed, IMO) vulnerability was something that could be considered trivial BEFORE became a much bigger issue when it took an entire mini-series to flesh it out.

You shouldn't take Leaguer seriously. You should realize he doesn't like the Hal Jordan character, either. When are people going to learn this? And, Leag...are you going to stoop so low as to keep doing this to amuse yourself? For shame!:p

it's kind of sad that the leaguer has to have someone do his debating for him. not that i'm complaining about debating with you, mistress.

sure, if you want to compare the two aspects, i guess you can make the case that the fact that superman's identity hasn't been made public yet automatically makes his secret identity more trivial than the fact that parallax caused the weakness to yellow for hal jordan. however, that was never presented in this debate before. leaguer just flat out said i was "wrong" with nothing to back it up. i can deal with a rational debate, but leaguer didn't even try. he'd rather just make up some bullshyte statement on how he's always right, rather than actually invest himself in a civil debate. i still maintain that they're both trivial in regards to real life, since they're works of fiction, but i appreciate you articulating an actual argument against my stance on the topic.

you're right. it was a poor choice of words on my part. i don't really follow green lantern, but that's no excuse.

yes, i totally understand that now. all he had to do was put aside ego and explain his side, rather than resorting to his standard *****ebaggery. but, we've all come to expect that from him by now. watch him swoop in here and claim victory, even thought he had virtually nothing to do with the actual debating process. as for not taking him seriously, when you're used to the majority of the posters on these boards at least acknowledging other viewpoints and then you run into someone like him who talks endless shyte and, jokingly or not, acts like a dick to everyone who doesn't bow down to his ego, yeah, i don't care if it's serious or not, it's annoying and the only way to get him to realize that is to push back. i can be a dick sometimes, but it's usually when i'm in a bad mood, it's not a constant stream of self-congratulatory b.s. like leaguer. whatever. this thread has been derailed enough. i enjoyed discussing this with you and mistress gluon. let's put it to rest.

I'm not really debating on behalf of anybody. I'm more or less seeing where the argument is meant to be.

And dammit Tropico! You tease!

Even I can see others opinions...sometimes.

Sinewave, I think it's hilarious that you're trying to blast me for just saying wrong when it's exactly what you did.

I said that, because it's a comic book, something like Superman concealing his identity is trivial. In the real world, no one would be able to do it, but it's a comic, so he can.

Then Phere compared it to Parallax, and I responded, saying that Superman's deal is trivial, because it doesn't actually impact anything, whereas the Parallax deal impact a ton, including changing the way readers looked at something like TEN WHOLE YEARS of continuity.

If you don't see how one is trivial when compared to the other, you're f***ing stupid.

I never said any of it wasn't trivial when compared to real life. In fact, how is saying Superman's method is trivial because it's in a comic book NOT agreeing with you? Christ, dude, THINK before you try to argue.

And since your panties are still so hung up over the word "Wrong," I urge you to look back at what I was responding to. You said:

sinewave said:
wrong. if one's trivial then they both are.
That's not debate, hotshot, that's called stating your position. You didn't provide any sort of argument, you didn't support anything, you just made a statement. If you went into a formal debate supporting capital punishment and just said, "Capital punishment is good," you'd be slaughtered. Do you seriously not get that? What part of what you said do you think calls for anything beyond mirroring what you did?

It tickles me that this is all stemming from your complete refusal to admit that you had no idea what you were arguing when you decided to start up with me.

as a courtesy to the others in this thread, i'll PM you my response.

A courtesy to what? They don't have to read it, and they probably aren't going to, anyway.

The Leaguer said:

I might.

But then again, my first name is named after my home country. O.o (Which is trivial.)

Actually...that's more of my role. Question usually is more picky about his debates. I'm more the type to debate anything.

The Leaguer said:
Stop criticizing my opinions, or I'll report you.

That reminds me of the Great I will report you if you keep making fun of Hal Jordan GAH threat. I miss those days.

alright, if you don't mind then...

i said a bit more than that, but i probably should have been clearer as to which context i was referring to, as you should have as well.

nope, here's what you said:

There's a difference between sense and lame-ness. The logic behind how Superman conceals his identity is trivial. Jordan's deal is so huge it extends into the "f***ing idiots" realm.

claiming something is trivial and then compairing it to something that "extends into the 'f***ing idiots' realm." is hardly the same as saying "Superman's deal is trivial, because it doesn't actually impact anything, whereas the Parallax deal impact a ton, including changing the way readers looked at something like TEN WHOLE YEARS of continuity."

if you had explained it that way it would have made a more valid point.

you didn't, but that was my argument, even though i didn't articulate it well enough.

saying you were wrong was more of a knee jerk-reaction to your usual degree of assholishness, and it was probably wrong to do. having said that, quit acting like you're the ****ing end-all be-all and maybe i'll treat you with a little respect.

I really like Ollie and Dinah getting married.

Is it just me or did the topic of Dinah and Ollie getting married get Leag and Sine all hot and bothered and they're play-fighting as a way of flirting because they wanna get married?!?!?!:wow:
