The Avengers Scarlett Johansson is the Black Widow

In the scene when Natasha and Clint are talking in a room right after she snapped Clint out of Loki's mind spell, Clint noticed that she seemed different, and she looked scared and mentioned that she was compromised.

What happened to her? what does she mean by being compromised?

She also looked very upset when she interrogated Loki. Did Loki frightened her with something besides threatening her? I mean at the end of that scene it appeared that she was acting like she was upset only to manipulate Loki, but then later it appears that she was indeed upset.
I think that was part of it. She did in fact show him she cared for Clint even if she played it to her favor. Loki could have used it against her. That's what I think she's refrencing.

BTW ScarJo did a fantastic job in this film if I was ever doubtful she proved me completely wrong. I had no doubt though being under the helm of Whedon though.

It's amazing how much better Black Widow is in The Avengers compared to Iron Man 2, and I didn't mind her in that film. But this was impressive.

It proves that it's not the character, but the writer who can bring out the best in that character. Whedon is made to write for strong heroines like BW, and if she gets a solo movie in the future, I think Marvel has to get him to write the script at the very least.

I'd like to go back and see it a second time and pay more attention to the dialogue during the Loki-Natasha scene. At my first viewing, during that scene I kinda drifted into a state, I was in a complete state of disbelief the whole time, I couldn't believe I was actually watching THE AVENGERS!! I was thinking is this for real?!

Anyway, in that scene there were references about Natasha's past and she seemed very distraught about it, what's the back story?

Also, what did Natasha and Clint talked about when Clint was in the recovery room?

Btw, I must admit, after seeing the movie, I have a huge crush on Natasha/Scarlett. She's such a cool character in that movie.

I gotta say, ScarJo was exceptionally sexy at being the Blackwidow, even thought she wasn't portrayed a sexual figure.

Black Widow was kicking all kinds of butt like said its the way the writer handles the character and Whendon knows how it would be really cool to see her get a movie but I imagine if Clint gets a movie could be apart of it heck just a straight up Shield movie would own all spy like.

I loved that they didn't go overboard with the romance. I can't stand 'insert love interest here' roles. It was a clever move which didn't disrupt the pacing of the story.

Guys think she could carry her own film or would they need to create it as a Hawkeye and Black Widow movie for it to actually have some legs?

Really pleased with how her character was handled in this film. You wouldn't think someone like her, a mere mortal, would be able to contribute in any way to the team, but she contributed in spades.

As for her past, she was an assassin for Russia before switching over to SHIELD/USA. She was sort of shocked that Loki knew so much about her background.

In the recovery room, Hawkeye was describing how it felt to have someone playing inside his head. BW said she did, which is referencing the mental conditioning probably done with in Russia. Also, they talked about what to do about Loki after left for NYC.

Don't know if this been brought up here but they cut this shot of Black Widow.

I'm starting to think they shot those character-centric throwaway shots just for the trailers. Cap throwing his shield in that barren alley, Thor throwing his hammer at the camera in the woods, etc.

I adored the Black Widow in this film. How fantastic it is that 2012 is the year of the ass kicking female!

One of the first things that tipped me off that Whedon 'got it' was when he had a scene where Natasha spoke Russian. Not in a Russian accent but actual Russian! Superb!

I would definetly be there for a Black Widow movie!

She was awesome.

I think Scar-Jo's wonderful performance is getting overlooked around the Net. What she did with her eyes as she turned on and off her emotions is amazing. Some were calculated character bits as she was playing others but when you see true fear in her eyes, that automatically makes the Hulk 100% more ominous. I LOVE that about how Joss handled her and how Scar-Jo brought it to the screen.

She could certainly carry her own film. A "La Femme Natasha."

Scarlet in her own movie? Only if it was dark, hard R, and had tons of scenes where she's nude.

I truly felt something for Natasha in this movie. She felt like a real person and not like some plot device.

I was very impressed with all her fight scenes.............she really sold it.

I'm glad. I may not like Johansson as Widow, but I thought that shot was a very generic "Be sexy" shot that made absolutely no sense in the context of "Holy crap aliens are invading Manhattan and exploding everything!". Don't think most would expect an international superspy and assassin to take the time to make a sexy pose for the camera in the middle of a war zone.

She was really good in this. Whedon developed her far more and I think SCarJo had more confidence in this. While she was kind of flat and banal in IM2, she had a lot more charm and intensity in this movie. Her scene with Loki is one of my favorites for the raw energy they both brought and the great evil dialogue he spat out. Also, her non-CGI based action scenes were more jaw dropping than much of the CGI in this movie. She really stood out which I'm really happy about after all the crap she got for being on the team without superpowers (or honestly, being a woman in a boy's club).

Well done.

Yeah, she did a surprisingly amount of stuff in this. And she played a bigger part than I expected. She was great. I was impressed with the amount of stuff she did and what she did.

They better give her a spinoff movie alongside Jeremy Renner. I think those two characters (Natasha and Clint) are strong enough to carry a film by themselves.

She was great in this film.
