Scooby Doo Prequel In 2009{Direct To DVD}

the thing that I loved about A Pup Named Scooby Doo was the character of Red Herring.

not true, when I was a kid I found it just as repetative as I do now

hence why I never enjoyed it

so no, not every kid feels/felt that way, sorry

how old were you then?
i started to watch it when i was 2 and still watch it today but from 2-9 or 10 is when i started to realize the same thing but whatever.

It's been on CN sometimes the original show and I never get tired of it. At least it's not a Power Ranger sort of thing. That thing got painfully repetetive in every single episode and that's what got me away from the show like five or six years ago.

couldn't tell ya when I watched Scooby Doo for the first time

not something I comitted to memory

Does anyone have any info on the rumored "Scooby-Doo - Mystery, Inc." series coming out this fall? I can't find any images or info online.

"A pup named Scooby-Doo" was painfully unfunny and bad

Nothing has appeared online yet, but I read a comment by a poster on another forum that he heard the series will have real monsters and ghosts.

I just heard about that. I thin it takes place in some town outside of Coolsville and that's where the show takes place. Sounds very interesting. Of course with kids shows these days there's huge chance they'll **** it up.

We need to redeem Scooby Doo and bring back the spookiness. This could be its saving grace.

Just as long as it's better than the last series. That was a waste of animation and space.

Quoted for truth.

Bring back whomever was involved with Zombie Island/Witche's Ghost/Alien Invaders and we'd have a hit. It actually aged and progressed the characters without moving them too far away and was interesting to see them confronted with something actually supernatural. I miss that they didn't carry on Daphne's TV show into the later films, as well as the jobs the other characters had. really, Velma's book shop could have been used for research for different things, and Scooby and Shaggy could have been, well, Scooby and Shaggy.

‘Scooby-Doo’ Gets a Makeover for Prequel

Warner Premiere and Cartoon Network are going back to the origins of “Scooby-Doo” with Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins, which offers a look at how the whole gang — Velma, Shaggy, Daphne and Fred — got together in high school to solve mysteries.

The feature premieres on Cartoon Network in September and on DVD, Blu-ray Disc, on-demand and download from Warner Home Video Sept. 22. Exclusive to the Blu-ray are pop-up facts about the series.

July 26 at the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con International, filmmakers and cast gathered to talk to fans about the new live-action take on a classic.

“The story [of the gang’s origins] has never been told,” said director Brian Levant, who added that creators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera would be “proud” of how the series has evolved.

Cast members found re-imagining the characters a challenge, trying to live up to the gang’s several incarnations on TV and in two live-action theatrical films.

“I think it was a really big challenge because the show was so iconic,” said actress Kate Melton (Daphne). “I’ve never met anyone who actively dislikes Scooby-Doo.”

Added Robbie Amill (Fred): “You don’t want to be the person who butchers a 40-year-old icon.”

Nick Palatas (Shaggy) didn’t study the voice work of Casey Kasem or Matthew Lillard, who developed the character’s well-known squeaky voice in the series and films, respectively.

“I just kind of did what I could do,” he said.

He found it a particular challenge to act with an animated Scooby-Doo, who had to be placed in later.

Several scenes filmed on the high school set of “Smallville,” which suffers some major fire damage from marauding ghosts.

Amill’s favorite scene was “being able to run out of that school with big fireballs behind us.”

“I personally liked when Fred accidentally fell on me — well, Velma did,” joked Hayley Kiyoko (Velma).

The actors tried to invest their characters with a modern sensibility, and the costumes matched that updated take on the show.

“We wanted to make a wardrobe that reminded you of the characters,” Levant said, adding that Fred didn’t wear the outdated ascot, for instance, and Daphne wore purple and Velma orange, but not always a turtleneck.

Fred also wasn’t blond, and one Comic-con attendee asked why that was.

Playing to the Comic-con crowd familiar with the new “Star Trek” movie, producer Brian Gilbert explained that it was a time travel anomaly.

“Spock came back to the past and made Fred’s hair brown,” he joked.

You can't tell me it would have been too expenseve to pull off the GG Scooby from the first movie. That looks terrible.

In my oppinion, Scooby Doo will never work as a movie. Except only for kids of course...

You know what the worst part of this being released? that there's probably going to be a red carpet DVD premiere where all the D-list celebs can gather.

It seems nowadays that every piece of crap that comes to DVD gets a red carpet premiere party and yet none were made when G.I.Joe and TF came to DVD. :(

Watching the Scooby marathon now and they're showing interviews with the cast. Retconning Velma into an asian chick I guess makes sense if you think about it, but the hardcore fanbase I'm sure will never get used to that. Ditto Freddy's hair.

I wouldn't say that. The only major problem I have with the cast is that Fred isn't blonde{which is more of a nitpick than anything else}.

I can see a prequel trilogy coming. The ridiculous names of the last three Star Wars films work well. The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, with one minor change: Revenge of the Witch
