Dumb move and im still waiting to hear how trolls 2 did as just a rental And not allowing people to buy it outright
Wow. Slippery slope begins.
That and this thing has had a rocky production that's lasted nearly a decade. First it was gonna be a straight launchpad for a Hannah-Barberra cinematic universe called "S.C.O.O.B." (despite no other tied-in movies being announced; even the failed Dark Universe at least had that). Then it was gonna be about the gang vs a conspiracy of masked villains and would've been co-directed by Dax Sheppard (fresh off of the failure that was the "Chips" movie, so it was clear WB gave him the gig as collateral for "Chips" failing). And now it's a "origin story for probably the first 10-15 minutes or so and the the rest a mystery with elements of a crossover with other HB characters and a bunch of unfunny pop culture jokes" movie (seriously, that damn Netflix joke made me cringe). It's very clear WB had no concrete idea what this was gonna be from the start and just junked the previous ideas when they were going nowhere which each of them. Being moved to VOD instead of theaters is just the final nail in the coffin of this entire damn mess. This thing was never gonna be a hit with anyone. They're dumping it because they know it's not that great. This always looked VOD quality anyway. If they thought this had a chance, they would've delayed it like other animated films.
Like Trolls and Artemis Fowl, they know the quality and demand isn't there.
SpongeBob is still getting a theatrical release, just not until August 7.That's a shame. I was hoping to see this and SpongeBob in theaters.
This movie was God awful. I split this movie five ways and I still want my four dollars back.
I think we've regressed with this franchise. It's like we're back in the 70's and 80's with totally baffling results that totally disregards the original idea in favor of shoving in what's popular in the moment. But it's not even that, it's just a bad movie for what it's trying to do. This movie was made by a committee. This is a cynical nightmare.
1/10
Yeah I honestly don't blame you and I'm sure a lot of the older fans will especially feel this way as well. At the end of the day this just didn't feel like Scooby-Doo and what's worse is how forced all the meta/pop culture jokes felt. I'd hate to see this franchise being reduced to this kind of lazy humor just because other movies have made it popular.
