I don't ses where the comedy in this film was too much, tbh. It had just the right maount, IMO. There scene where
Jill says to Sidney that she's the angel fo death and Ghost face pops out of the closet, a girl right below the level I was sitting at screamed. It's still scary, lol.

I saw it for a second time this evening. I enjoyed it as much as the first time.

The inappropriate humor in some scenes was still just as bad. My second audience once again didn't react to the "F**k Bruce Willis" line either. I wish they'd edit or mute it out on the Blu-Ray.

I will say that Jill was even better on second viewing as the killer.

The finale is so silly, once you think about it.

Three patients get out of their bed and unhooked from all their devices. And all we see is ONE nurse as Jill sneaks into Sidney's room.

No one cares when Jill unhooks herself, no one cares, Dewey screams loudly running down a hall once Gale figures it out. No one cares. Sidney is in ICU and Jill throws her out of her bed and breaks glass. No one cares. Dewey gets beat over the head loudly. No one cares. Gale unhooks her ass from anything, comes in to check, gets in danger. No one cares. Hicks gets shot. No one cares.

What the **** was the staff doing? Having a rave in the staff lounge?

LOL, so true. But it's so entertaining that it gets a free pass.

But here's another thing that doesn't make sense. According to Dewey Sidney was at death's door being touch and go in ICU. How on earth did she muster all that energy to fight back against Jill, or even stand up after suffering more assaults from Jill and use the defibrillator on her?

The only comedy that felt awkward to me was Perkins ''**** Bruce Willis."

Everything else felt pretty close to the comedy of the original. Hicks humor was very Dewey like, Gale was always a comedic ***** of a character. Rebecca was a play on her. The Stab films were comedic and made fun of in 2 and 3 as well.

Hoss and Perkins together felt like Williamson playing with the cop movie rules that he never really did. It's really only that ONE line that Perkins has that I felt was out of place.

Alot of people talked about how Jill's setting up her motive scene was funny, but I just don't see how.

Also just got back from seeing it the second time. Still my second favorite one after the original.

Saw it. My God, I loved it. Finally! It definitely delivered.

I just gotta say, thank God I completely stayed away from this film for months on end. It was worth it.

But anyway I'll begin with the opening. These movies have always been unpredictable. This is no exception. The opening scene was absolutely brilliant. First, a sequel deconstructing horror movies and torture porn and trends, then going into the next sequel in discussing those deconstuctions, and in trying to be more unpreditable with the dumb blonde being a killer and killing the other blonde. Then it going out into the real world with two blondes. Thank God this all played out right. The main blonde going upstairs, making us think she would bite it when the chick downstairs on the phone bites it instead.

Then GF calls and I'm loving it. "You're just a dumb blonde with big ****." Her death reminded me of Tatum's too. Which was probably intended.

Then when the title hit and the song came on with the reveal of Woodsboro, I had a huge grin on my face. It felt so ****ing much like Scream it was great.

Then the other stuff unfolds. As ever, they did a fantastic job of mind ****ing me. This movie truly is a case where anybody can be the killer. They are all strong suspects. It's constantly shifting. And I mean constantly. The new cast is all likeable and memorable and the women are all smoking hot. Hayden Pennetierre being one of the best.

The barn scene was cool as well. I liked the drop of Scream 2 in there. Scream 4 watching the first Stab seen in Scream 2. Great.

The laughs provided also remind me how these films have laughs as well. The dialogue is sharp and witty and very Williamson. All the original cast feel like themselves.

The one thing I loved among alot of things is that when this movie was announced, they said they would pass to torch to the next generation. Well the next generation all died in this film. Which is such a hilarious and sick irony.

The deaths are awesome. Anderson's death being the best. The "**** Bruce Willis" line wasn't needed, but it got a big laugh out of me.

And finally the killers. Like I said, it was constantly changing. You tend to remember how everyone else fits and where everyone else was at the time of the killings. Kirby's house scene was great. And this is where I was getting mind ****ed.

"Where did you come from?"

"The front door. It was unlocked."

This is where the **** happens. Anything could happen. They're all stuck in one place. Is the killer among them? Are all they all vistims? They played it off all so well. At first I thought it was Trevor, then it switched to Kirby (seriously though, Kirby would have made a great killer) then went to Charlie for a second or so. I suspected Robbie because of the webcam in the barn. But he was drunk. And it seemed to be a reference to Roman in the third and actually making him dead this time. At least that's where I got from it. Both gay comments by the way were funny.

But Jill was the last person I expected. of course you run everyone through thei mind and who seems the most porbabale, and Jill was last for me. ALthough she crossed my mind in Kirby's house because her, Trevor and Charlie were disapeparing. Again, they played it so that anyone could be it. A nice isolated place with five people. So unlike the first.

Then when Kirby lead Sydney down the stairs in the basement and acting all uncaring with Charlie outside, she seemed like the killer to me. She has Sydney alone and she doesn't seem to care as much. But then Charlie is stuck outside with the events of the opening of Scream 1.

Whcih reminds me, they did an amzing job with mirroring the vents of the first and twisted them up in such an ironic way. Everything was unpredictable with that in the final outcome. But they pulled it off.

And I've thought about the reveal of the killers. It's justified as any of the others save for Roman. You suspected Billy finally being the killer when he asked for the gun and gave that look, leaving a few seconds for it to register. Same with Charlie. I started to suspect that it was set up when she came out.

Charlie is definitely the Stu. Weak willed accomplice but who tried to be like the next Randy in escaping.

Jill was simply psychotic. A jealous fame seeking *****. Her own cousin. Yeesh. And her motives make damn sense. I was wracking my brains as to what it would be, and it makes so much damn sense. These days with the technology we have at our fingertips, people want to get famous. Some want to do stupid thing, others will take it too far, like here.

And she obviously wanted to be the new Sydney. And Trevor in place of Billy, still managing to trick the people in suspecting.

Her roughing herself up was darkly comic and I loved it.

And to me the real twist was her playing upon Billy and Stu'd plan and actually living it out for a short while. Her being the hero and the survivor. That plan in the first tow never came to fruition because they were interupted.

Now in a time like today, that possibility can happen. Oh, just brilliance.

The finale was great. Tense. Her beating Dewey I mean damn!

And Sydney shocking her in the head was awesome.

"Dont **** with the original."

The best line and delivery of the, if not one of the best lines of the franchise.

The last shot was different too from usual. An ironic shot really. Instead of being on Sydney, you're on the killer who wanted to be like Sydney but is dead before our eyes.

Cox and Arquette are still great. Dewey's ring tone, Gale's still great personality, Dewey's "Deweyisms."

"I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE **** TO TYPE!"

I just love the that original trio remains and the supposed "new generation" all died. Althoguh I would have preferred to see Kirby survive. Yeah, don't **** with the original. The first time something like this has done so, and it would take something like Scream to say it.

I need to see this again. But as you can tell, I loved it.

So far, this is how they're ranked.

Scream
Scream 2
Scream 4
Scream 3

The only criticism I can think of so far is where the **** is "Red Right Hand?"

Both my audiences laughed at this scene, too. The biggest laugh came form her smashing her head against the picture on the wall.

Awesome review, man. Glad you enjoyed it

Your ranking of the Scream movies is the same as mine. Parts 1 and 2 are still in a league of their own for me.

One thing I liked seeing I wanted to see more of:

even though it was only the opening scene of Stab 6, seeing the two Ghostfaces working together was awesome and something I would've liked to have seen in this movie during the actual events. We have yet to see two Ghostfaces working together at the same time while onscreen. I'd love to see that for Scream 5.

Yeah, I gotta agree that the only bit that pushed the comedy over the top was the Anthony Anderson death (and I wonder if that was only included by studio mandate? Maybe such a violent act as stabbing someone in the head had to be evened out by making it humorous)

The tone felt much darker then the other sequels, and maybe even darker than the first. Despite the humorous bits, it seemed to have a more agressive, omnious feel looming over. The third (and second, to a lesser extent) felt like almost light romps for 70% of the runtime, whereas this one felt like a nasty horror film.

I'd be interested in someone doing a minute check. To me, it seemed like Roger Jackson got more face (or rather, voice!) time in this one than any other. I really loved his work in some of these scenes - it was an angrier, more no-nonsense Ghostface than before.

But seriously...WHERE THE **** WAS RED RIGHT HAND?

Well people have survived worse
http://kotaku.com/#!5499061/accused-game-cheater-gets-knife-through-head-and-survives

i still dont buy it... he didnt even pass out or anything.. [BLACKOUT]he had enough time to get outta the car.. walk a couple steps and deliver a whole line.
and that knife went alll the way deep into his brain lol
sorta turned too ridiculous for a sec...[/BLACKOUT]

The movie was definitely darker in tone than Scream 2 or 3 IMO, especially 3, which at times felt more like Scary Movie made part of the canon with it's goofiness. 4 still wasn't quite as dark or threatening as the original felt to me, but it was definitely close. It brought back a similar mean-spirited feeling that the original evoked.

I'm confused on why the critics (and I guess our Hype friend JOW) are ripping this film a new *******?

I'm still in love with it after the second viewing. Yes, there are some flaws but most were the edited or cut parts (The original opening of Marnie and Jenny's roles swapped) but the pacing and kills felt right.

This film wasn't suppose to be another "Wes Craven" Scream film, it was
Charlie and Jill's Scream
. It makes it amazingly done to have this film actually feel weird or odd to us ScreamFreaks because these new kids don't know suspense, and their whole life is based in this "by the second" and in your face world.

The motives totally fit, also. Just great film all around. It was also at least fun in the "non-kill" parts, unlike Scream 2/3 where we get bogged down by annoying Sorority chicks, random racial characters to just be killed (to please the studio), odd ball people like Parker and so forth.

Some characters needed more screen time in 4 but so did Mickey, Angela, Roman, and Randy (Scream 1).

Apart from Red Right Hand, and any real character development, I also missed the chase scenes. There was no real epic chase scenes between Ghostface and anyone. The closest we got was the opening kill.

im surprised that i enjoyed hayden in this... even with her stupid hair-cut.

I still wish Kirby had lived. :(

Me too. It would've been cool to have her be the new lead. Imagine if the lead was also the movie-saavy one? That'd be a change! Sid didn't know **** about horror fillms. :oldrazz:

So what do you do with Scream 5? I guess it's just Sid, Dewey and Gale again?

I kinda love that Craven bucked expectations by basically killing off all of "the new class," but it brings the series back to status quo again, and I wonder how you continue on from there. Not too many horror series follow a bunch of 30-somethings.

I love Scream 2 as much as the first I think. And the thought of Mickey being the first killer still blows my mind because I completely forgot about him. Now, that could be a criticism as well because he disappears in the second act. I think his last scene before his reveal was the cafeteria scene.

And I was surprised that
Gale didn't die which I really thought was going to happen. I was watching the film and expecting it.

They got rid of some scenes though. I want to see that fountain scene. And more of Trevor.

Kirby, Robbie, and Charlie were probably my favorite new characters. I loved the latter two's interactions and dialogue. Robbie reminded me of Jesse Eisenberg. He even sounded like him. Even the line, "I'm a little intoxicated. I'm not gonna lie" is also in TSN.

I'm still amazed that Jill was the killer. I never really thought a teenage girl would ever be a killer in these films. Especially a relative to Sydney. But it makes perect sense now. And given Roberts resume from that past (I even had a crush on her in a Nickelodeon show she had a long time ago) and the family stuff she's done, it just made her shocking.

I still can't heap enough praise of the Kirby's House scene. One of the best scenes of the franchise.

Anyone who feels Craven dropped the bucket on this film or that he shouldn't direct 5 or 6, read this;

He was a genius (and ballsy) to film this different than the first three because this film was as if Charlie and Jill were directing it.

Fast, No-nonsense, no-suspense, and chaotic.

These kids don't know what a good horror film (SCREAM) is like. It was pretty cool, that he mae this so meta that the film it self as a whole is a metaphor for the "film" Charlie and Jill are miking within it.

Spoiler tag this dude!

I did, but now you'll have to edit your quote!

Seriously though, when is the spoiler ban off? I get being polite, but it's been out for a day and a half. If you're reading this thread and haven't seen it yet, you're reading at your own risk.

Yeah, I agree with you. Scream-Trilogy forums let the floodgates open at midnight thursday/friday.

True but still. Until a Mod says so it's good.

I haven't been in this thread for a week and a half. I was going through it and I'm glad I stayed out anyway. I know there were spoiler tags, but the fact it was all there makes me uncomfortable.

I'm very anal about spoilers anyway.

I think most of our hardcore posters in the thread have seen the movie. Only person I haven't seen is anjow.

I'm open to a 5th if they can make it work. As much as I love these self aware ironic elements in these films, there comes a point where it just happens over and over again. Maybe that itself can be one of the themes of the fifth? How long does this all have to go on for until it becomes tired?

How long can this trio last for? They got away again and they made it work. But can they do it again? Where would it even take place? I'd imagine Sydney would never come to Woodboro again. I mean the only way for people around her to survive is for her to die. It's when it all stops.
