Seriously tho. I aknowledge it's a solid movie. Just not the same style as 1,2,3. It's Scream for a different generation.

But if any of you want to argue that this movie had a clear lead, character development, dramatic build up / execution in the scares, nice pacing / editing / plot structure and a purpose for Gale / Dewey.... then I'll go on for years and years.

Difference of style or not.... this movie had storytelling issues all over.

Agreed. It still looks, feels, and sounds like Scream.

Trust me kittens.... I've watched these movies more times than anyone in this forum as blinked in the past 24 hours.

This was not Scream style. The body count became the focus. Idk what story you're referring to... but this thing was rushed. And our "main" killer was terrible. I'm sorry. Roman pisses on him/her.

Scream 4 was very much in line with the first two. Ghostface was in full glory and actually seemed more menacing in this one. The plot worked. And the motive worked perfectly.

I will agree with him that Ghostface didn't have great chitchat conversation in this one like with Casey or Sidney in Scream 1. However, there were no good, long winded cat-and-mosue phone calls in Scream 3 either. The last good ones were with CiCi, Sidney and Randy in Scream 2.

It makes sense that the further we get away from the original "Voice" (most likely Billy Loomis) that the copycats are influenced by all the terrible Stab movies and go for the angry aggression right off the bat and fail to milk it like Billy and his mother did in the original films.

Scream 4 is being punished for the Sins of Scream 3 . Lets face the wom from most fans have been positive . When it opens up to lower expectations it has nothing to with the film itself , but people grew cynical and tired of it after Scream 3 sucked.

Also Younger teens and who didn't grow up on it are less likelt to want to see this than us old *****s who grew up on this , but we are less likely to go opening weekend and will wait a few weeks or until dvd . I am interested in theweek 2 box office

No offense, but that's ignorant to say. Most people only look at what's above the water. Try looking what's under the water and you'll find some really entertaining slasher films. Hatchet, Wrong Turn, laid To Rest, etc. Besides, the films are meant to entertain, not be academy award winning stories.

I didn't make my point clear enough. Most slashers are garbage, but I enjoy them all.I try to hold things to the standard of the genre and judge the film on its on merits. Slasher flicks have never been considered anything but a good time. With these flicks I look for these things: a good body count, creative kills, humor, and something resembling a story. If it has those it passes in my book. I try not to over criticize them because if you do most of these films just would not hold up. Scream 4 however does hold up so far that I can tell, and for a slasher film that is a great. achievement.

I've seen Wrong Turn. It was terrible. In fact, Kirby's little monologue (great scene) showed how many bad slasher movies have been made in just the last ten years. The only remake of those that was kind of good was Last House on the Left, but that's because the original was a snuff film, so seeing a less offensive version of the story was actually welcomed.

Oh, now I see what you mean. I don't know, maybe it's beacause the horror/slasher genere is my favorite genre along with action, so I was so quick to defend.

Ahem....

A bit harsh. I'd just say that it is most definitely a Scream movie for fans of the originals. Hence the ending and Sid's final line. Methinks you missed the point of the motive. It was a social commentary on the new youth generation and the need for celebrity in the world of Youtube, American Idol and Twitter. The world of Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Charlie Sheen and "Presidential Candidate Donald Trump."

And it was also a commentary on remakes and how the studio formula for those works. When you view it like that, [blackout]the killer Jill[/blackout] is the best the series has had since Billy and Stu. In any case [blackout]she[/blackout] is way better than Roman who was the lamest killer with the lamest motive in the series by a few thousand miles. I'd also add that this feels far more like the original 1996 Scream than Scream 3 did.

Honestly, if you think Scream 3 is better than this or closer to the original two films than this movie, it is nostalgia because Scream 3 sucked. Even Bob Weinstein, the mastermind behind that film, has admitted as much.

That's all your opinion, not fact. Friday the 13th (2009), Last house on The Left (2009), Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007), The Hills Have Eyes (2005), and A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010) have not been horrible in alot of horror fans minds. They are, in most cases, the good sid of the remakes. Hell, I'll throw Tom Savini's Night Of The Living Dead (1990) remake in there as well.

I sitll loved that scene with kirby though.

Heh. I hated that movie. Nothing but gratuitous nudity and gore. The victims were nothing but machete fodder and the audience cheered the slaughter when I saw it (kind of like the ones that Williamson and Craven made fun of at the beginning of Scream 2). The softcore porn scenes in it coupled with the machete hacking kind of fit every sexist stereotype the genre has ever elicited, in my opinion.

The film is as much of a Scream film as the past films. No less. It is an excellent addition to the series IMO.

And hands down, Kirby's quiz to save Charlie was better than all of Scream 3. But on the flip side, nothing in Scream 3 was as laughable and STUPID as "eff Bruce Willis." Come on kids.... be reasonable.

But still.... as an overall movie.... the execution of this movie lost all of the love and heart of the OT.

NONE of the phone calls, sans the one I just mentioned measure up to Casey Becker, Cici Cooper, or even Cottons. I'm sorry.

And Roman's monologue was so much better than "marsha marsha marsha"

Though watching you-know-who eff themself up was entertaining.

I would say in terms of entertainment factor, 4 > 3.

But as style similar to the OT - this one falls down a black hole.

See we agree that this should be the last one but for different reasons . This was easily the best way the film to go out on . I rather see it end on a high note like Scream than end up going back to Scream 3 quality in a sequel. The remake theme seems like a perfect full circle conclusion to a franchise that was horror/satire

so I loved the fact that Wes and kevin made fun of it in the opening scene. Remember, Wes was good friends with Sean S. CUnningham when he broke into the buisness. Craven does like Friday the 13th.

It was funny seeing the audience react that way to the deaths in the opening of Scream 2, lol. One of my favorite scenes in the franchise.

I'm sorry, I think you're the one out of the line here. The tone of this movie is just WAY off.

This will be an instance of "Agree to disagree" cuz I know what the movies are to me and you know what they are to you.

And the sole redeeming scene in this whole movie to me was Kirby's quiz.

You know it isn't all about you. There are plenty of fans who want a fifth. As long as there are fans who want new scream films they should keep making them. If you can't handle it don't watch them or pretend they don't exist it's that simple.
