Scream 5 in Development

Yeah, I agree. The idea is just plain dumb, but maybe with better execution I could have accepted it. It was a poorly constructed mystery to the point it isn't earned. What's overlooked about these movies is that they're constructed as mysteries, and great ones at that. I'd say they're as much as whodunits as they are horror.

When Roman unmasks himself in front of Sidney she should have said "Who?" Sidney has never met this person before. What made all the other killers effective was the fact Sidney knew them in some way or another. Sidney had no interaction with any of the characters/suspects besides Kincaid and Emily. Dewey's line in Scream 2 about the killer already being in her life sums it up. That's what makes Ghostface so scary. One of these people are pretending and the drama is how much Sydney can live her life with this knowledge.

I really wish they went with Williamson's original idea for 3. That would have been amazing.

Just have a strong motivation with strong execution. 1,2, and 4 all accomplished this.

For the record, the Jill stuff was brilliant. An inverse of the original? The supposed new Sydney that takes over the franchise being the killer to have her own franchise? ****ing brilliant. That's the type of ideas and understanding I hope these new people have.
What was Williamson's original idea for Scream 3?

Enjoy Billy

Nothing is harder than peeing while wearing Ghostface robes.

I’m seeing a lot of people say Sidney was underused and sidelined way too much in this movie and i completely disagree. She had far less screen time but for me that only made it more impactful when she showed up and every single scene she was in felt important and necessary.

I would take that any day over her huge amount of screen time in scream 4 where she literally stood around doing nothing for a whole movie looking bored. Scream 5 Sidney was probably my second favourite version of her just behind Scream 3

Just out of the theater. Say what you will about this movie, but this was clearly a Scream movie through and through made by Scream fans for Scream fans. All in all I had a wonderful night at the movies. Kills were BRUTAL! Lots of...things! I think Wes would definitely be proud.

I have no idea why there was ever any talk about this not being meta cause this was basically Scream 4 levels of meta IMO. However I will say that watching this movie in a Dolby cinema was such a treat. It looked and sounded fantastic, which I think gives it a nice edge over 4 in terms of just feeling like a classic Scream movie.

I'll save more detailed spoilery thoughts for later but looking forward to discussing with y'all.

Just finished it and I'm still processing everything. One thing is for sure, the actress that played Sam couldn't hold a candle to anyone she played opposite of.

And.......I just got it spoiled for me:( Careful out there, folks!
I was spoiled too.
And the really maddening thing is, I wasn't even at a Scream fansite.
I was watching a reaction video for the Dexter New Blood finale.
And, somebody dropped Scream spoilers in the comment section.

I liked it a lot. Just got out, had a lot of fun. Was actually shocked by a few scenes. One thing that’s not a spoiler but I’ll keep the surprise for people, that caught me off guard but I got a good laugh out of was
Their reference to Stab 8/ being way different and everyone hating it, and then dropping it was directed by Rian Johnson.

One thing I loved (I hope I’m using the spoiler tag correctly lol)

Was Sidney on the hunt for ghostface and searching the house at the end, shooting through doors before even opening them. That felt like SUCH a Sidney thing to do, and so in line with her character from Scream 2&3 especially. I loved the reversal of Sidney being the one coming for ghostface this time around. Also loved when her and Gale were tag teaming Amber in the kitchen, throwing her over the counter, smashing a vase into her face and then lighting her on fire. I laughed in shock and amusement at how badass that was, so ****ing satisfying haha.

The dedication to Wes at the end hit me. It really made it bittersweet to realize that this great thing he created is living on in basically the best possible circumstance, and isn't having their work outlive them the dream of every artist? Obviously we'll never know but I truly believe he would've approved of this movie.

Btw, apparently there's an Easter egg in a Youtube thumbnail that Kirby is alive. I didn't catch it, but I love that if it's indeed true. Especially knowing that Wes intended for her to live on. Really jazzed about the potential for a Scream 6 and all the possibilities.

A certain death broke me… somehow even worse than the end of 007: NTTD.

Just got out of it. 8/8.5 out of 10. Loved just about all of the new additions. I did guess who the killer/killers was/were early on in the movie.

I figured Amber. Mainly because I remember the actress played a crazed Manson follower in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I imagine her end scene from that movie was on her demo reel.

I guessed Ritchie because of the hospital scene early on, when Tara asks everyone but Sam to leave. Amber made an off the cuff remark to Ritchie, which had an oddly familiar tone to it. Reminde me of the fountain scene with Billy and Stu in the original.

The motive was flimsy. I get the toxic fandom as a surface motive, but I wish there was a more grounded one as well.

Also, if the Sheriff is demanding backup, not sure why it took so long to get there, even if they're understaffed.

Loved it and had a blast last night. Was great seeing this with a packed house. This was my wife and I watching:

The film is definitely a love letter to the Scream franchise, but as always, it knows exactly what kind of movie it is and comments on itself repeatedly. This is Scream 3 levels of “meta” but in a more grounded format and it works. This is the kind of movie that I wish Scream 4 had been. There were some really intense sequences and it felt like there were real stakes this time.

I really do think Wes would be proud and I really hope the franchise is allowed to continue from here. Looking forward to discussing this further…I have many thoughts.

Ended up having to wait until today to see it. a couple of more hours for me!

I called Amber as one of the killers as soon as the opening with Tara looking at the video from Ghostface showing him outside of Amber’s window. It was obviously a prerecorded video. But one thing that confused me is Richie’s involvement prior to arriving in Woodsboro. We see him and Sam make a roadtrip out of coming to town. Are we to assume he drove all night to help Amber target Tara or did he not get involved until he arrived with Sam?

I was spoiled btw. People just don't want to wait, and it was before any of the early showings in the US last night. Still, I'm excited to see it.

The opening scene ruled. Best opening scene since Scream 2. What an awesome tribute!

I'm probably an idiot, but did anybody else start wondering if they
were actually going to bring Stu back or have the killer connected to Stu, when Ghostface says "Wrong....it was Billy Loomis and Stu Macher." There was a dumb fanboy part of me hoping that was going to pay off in the finale somehow that was going to be related to reviving Stu's legacy somehow.

I still wouldn't be totally opposed to them bringing that angle back somehow in a future film. Especially now that we have a Loomis character in the mix.

I kind of felt the same as you after I left the theater, but upon reflection

I do think it works on a meta level in that this is essentially the first Scream "fan film" that is truly being made as a tribute to the original and Wes. It is also an interesting subversion when you realize this is the first Scream film since the original to not have one of the killers have some sort of family tie to the past. Revealing that Sam is Billy's daughter kind of flips everything on its end right away, and I appreciated that. And I guess just the fact that the idea that Billy and Stu were the original "toxic fans gone insane" makes it all come full circle for me.

That said, I do hope the franchise continues so we can get some juicy 3rd act lore-based reveals in future films. There's so many directions they can go!

I've been thinking about the difference between Scream 4 and 5. I think what I've landed on is...

Scream 4 is kind of commenting on the idea of the bad remake, but in the process it turns that on its head and turns it into somewhat of an anti-reboot legacy sequel.

Scream 5 is indeed the true legacy sequel, only it's a very self-aware one in true Scream fashion. The fact that it's the first one to not be directed by Wes I think allows it to really be a loving tribute to the series in a way that just felt right.

I don't think the films are entirely without a bit of overlap, but I'm happy that both exist in the franchise and I think they did a good enough job differentiating it. I think the fact that

Dewey/Gale/Sid never share a scene together in this film is acceptable because we had that years-later reunion in Scream 4 already
