Sony cast Shailene for her star potential the same way fox did when they cast jennifer lawarence in x men first class.

2014 Shannon appears in a minor role in amazing spider man 2
then she will star in the next blockbuster YA franchise called Divergent
late 2014 she will get oscar buzz from staring in the fault in our stars
so when amazing spiderman 3 comes out, shannon will be the bigger more established actress capable of taking the franchise to movies 4, 5, 6.

emma stone is a bigger star now because of past roles......Shailene will eclipse her with her upcoming roles.

Woodley isn't contending with Emma Stone, she's going to do her job on the set and then bounce to her next project. Anyone who has seen emma stone act (except for her fans) know she's not a good actress and yet she did good as gwen (with zero doubts from comic fans going in)........shailene is a far better actress than emma and yet she's being doubted by everyone here.

I can't be the only one that finds that strange.........unless resembling a character means more than actual acting ability

People's Choice Awards and MTV Movie Awards don't really count. Shailene is a Golden Globe nominee, Independent Spirit Award winner, critics said she should've been nominated for an Oscar last year, her latest film that premiered at Sundance last month is getting amazing praise from the critics mainly because of her and her co-star, both of which won Special Jury Awards for Acting (some articles even called her the "critics' darling"). And that's only with two films, and her latest one is getting some pretty big award buzz, with people going as far as saying she'll most likely get an Oscar nomination this time.

I love Emma and I think she's fine as an actress, but Shailene has shown much more range in one movie than Emma has in 15.
