This is a continuation thread, the old thread is [split]453703[/split]
i get the vibe they're going a bit of the Erica Durance Lois Lane from Smallville feel with MJ. Which isn't actually a bad thing. considering Lois reminded me alot of MJ
They've always seemed kind of similar to me as well. I hope Gwen and MJ's dynamic with Peter is just as different as Lana and Lois's dynamic was with Clark. There was a perfect line in one of the episodes where they compared Lana to "sweet vanilla" and Lois to "wild cherry". I'd love to see a similar difference between Gwen and MJ here too. Gwen is more similar to Peter's calm and tender side, while MJ is similar to his rebellious and carefree side.
It is starting to seem as if they're reversing the Ultimate Universe dynamic with the two girls, which I personally find kind of neat. The USM universe has always been one of my favorite versions of the Spidey mythos, though, so I'm going to be kind of predisposed to getting excited any time we get elements of that universe incorporated into other iterations of said mythos.
Well I think it's obvious they won't just bring MJ to keep her as a friend and confidant. Initially, yes. But not always. The question is are they going to showcase the transition to her properly or it would seem forced to the point where general audience would think Pete went after her because his old girlfriend died. Bringing MJ in is tricky in the first place because everyone knows who she is. Someone mentioned Smallville before, which was about a young Clark Kent. His affection throughout most of the show's tenure was directed towards Lana Lang. Lois Lane was introduced in Season 4. Yet it wasn't until Season 8 where she and Clark started having romantic feelings. The point is, that show had ten seasons, the Spidey films are 160 minutes a piece tops. It's not only tricky that they introduce another love interest(despite that she's the most famous one) but there's very little time to make it look legit and not just a competition to Gwen that was chosen because Peter was left with no other option. How the whole situation plays out is what bothers me the most with bringing both Gwen and MJ in a film together.
Reversing the Ultimate universe as in this series' Gwen Stacy is basically Ultimate MJ, and this MJ will be Ultimate Gwen?
Characterization- wise, yes. They seem to have given this version of Gwen the characteristics of Ultimate MJ and this version of MJ the characteristics of Ultimate Gwen (at least in part).
With that said, I do think we'll see this version of Peter date both girls just as in the mainstream comic universe.
The filmmakers can use this film to establish MJ as a friend to Peter, have Gwen die fairly early on in TASM 3, and have MJ and Peter's established friendship grow into more over the course of the second half of TASM 3 with them getting together officially towards the end of the film.
Hahaha yeah I agree with most of your points. I do.
So you think MJ will become a romantic interest at some point in these movies, more than just Peter being attracted to her?
Of course. If they're gonna go that way, they shouldn't just tease it or make it one-sided, but go all the way. But that's only if Peter and Gwen are done for good, whether Gwen dies or they break up. I want it to make sense, rushing it because Peter and MJ "have to" be together after Gwen is out of the picture, doesn't cut it for me. It needs to look legit and somewhat believable.

I know I could be totally wrong, but id love to see them take this series past a 4th movie and keep it going.
I don't know... I have a feeling that we're still not getting the ideal Mary Jane we have been hoping for
But if the character is interesting I will forgive the movie for making her different
