Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel!

Yeah middle-aged Danny Glover (not exactly the most imposing guy ever) managed to kill one of these things after all, and he was just a cop. Heck Bill Paxton with a pistol puts up more of a fight then many of the characters in the first film.

I do love that ANY discussion of MAYBE having female protagonists automatically equals "pushing an agenda" or "polluting the franchise" or some other such nonsense, for some people. Wow, are they really that intimidated by that notion, seriously? Especially when the other two iconic 80's sci fi franchises already had them, and it worked out really well.

I'm not saying there's no chance it would be good. Case in point Long Kiss Goodnight by Black. Love that film and I find Geena terribly underrated in that role. But given the last 3 films track records with women characters playing tough roles, epic female sniper, Iraq war veteran, and rock climber explorer I have very little faith in them going forward. And as Black just pointed out with the IM3 fiasco studio heads always get involved so I could totally see them screaming to add in a "badass female action heroine" who we'll be convinced through movie magic can do some flipping spin up into the air and break the predator's neck in mid air. That's how I see things going lately.

And I wouldn't mess with Harrigan in Predator 2, dude was a badass.

It's a cliche now because he's often being used for fan-casting, but I think Idris Elba would be a great choice. Only because I just want to see him being the actual LEAD in big movies. Everyone wins.

At this point I'd really like a movie set in the past. Don't really care when, whether it's feudal Japan or the Vikings, or ancient Greece. A movie set in the future would be equally cool too though, if it had Space Marines. But these movies set in the "present day" have to go for sure.

Yeah, when you have creatures that are known to have a long lifespan, and have hunted prey throughout the centuries, you don't have to only focus on the present time.

I would love one set in the past also.

Wasn't there an idea/script of one hunting in a prison at one point?

The name of the lead character is...

When first asked about the film, Black was jokingly reticent (“At this point we’re thinking we’ll project on a screen... it’ll be in colour...”) but went on to explain his approach. “It’s an attempt to ‘event-ise’ the Predator again,” Black said. “[An attempt to] make it more mysterious. The Predator has been so overdone. Every couple of years, there's a knock-off churned out. Very low budget with a guaranteed return.”

Black continued by saying he hoped to achieve “the same sense of wonderment and newness that Close Encounters had when that came out. That's what we want. It's very impossible. But we're gonna try." He also spoke of keeping the relatively intimate scale of the original film: “It doesn't have to be 50 Predators riding motorcycles. It just has to feel like a powerful story that has a lot of flavours and textures.”

Understandably, Black kept most of his cards close to his chest. But did reveal one tantalising detail: “The hero of the film, the name I've given the guy, is Quinn McKenna.” Quinn McKenna. Rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it?

That could change, Black said, given that the film is still in early stages of pre-production, and nobody has been cast yet

Rebecca Ferguson should go up against the Predator. I'd love to see her sweaty and covered in mud!

Imagine her saying "You're one ugly mutha****er.."

and it would be nice he says "so are you".

If Arnold doesn't reprise Dutch, any chance Detective Schaefer finally gets his on screen debut? (Glover was cool and all in P2, but the original plan of having Arnold play Dutch's twin brother cop was always infinitely cooler to me).

Quinn is also a male and female name.:sly:
I thought the exact same thing although I doubt very much the lead will be female. There is still too much pushback in Hollywood that woman can lead a film like this despite decades of sporadic proof they can.

I love this quote. I've said a few times in this thread that the thing I love most about the original film is not the setting, or cast, or even the Predator itself - it's the sense of tension and fear in the jungle as Dutch's team is slowly picked off one by one. It's not a horror film but to this day I still watch it and think how terrifying it must be to be one of those characters.

I don't think they've ever managed to successfully replicate that sense of fear and foreboding on any of the sequels - even Predator 2, which I liked overall.

With a possible Predator 2ish detective element to it apparently. Welcome to the party Quinn McKenna.

Which is fine. Feb is no longer has that stigma of being a dead month, unlike the real culprit..September. That's the new dumping grounds.

September, you Dastard! :argh:

Looks like he's saying "F*** yeah, motherf***er!", or "TOGA PARRRRTYYYY!!!"

When does Deadpool 2 come out though...

The article says Fox's Marvel films moved to:
UNTITLED FOX/MARVEL: moves from January 12, 2018 to March 2, 2018.

UNTITLED FOX/MARVEL: moves from July 13, 2018 to June 29, 2018.

If I were to guess, I'd say Deadpool is the March 2nd one. Or the other one..... [/helpful]

The story is going to be more Aliens like.

Fred Dekker said:
"If you think of the first Predator as Alien, ours is much more Aliens. It's not Ten Little Indians, it's not, Let's kill off all of our characters, because we have a lot of characters, from a lot of different worlds and ideologies. I don't mean other planets. It's a lot of people doing a lot of things in a lot of locations.

There's a lot of great stuff in the [original] Predator but it's very simple. Guys get dropped in a jungle, and there's an alien monster, and they fight the monster, and they all die except for one - spoiler alert! - and then the thing self-destructs, and there's a nuke, and then [Arnold Schwarzenegger] flies away. It's relatively simple.

Our idea was, Okay, we know that story already. What's behind the curtain? Why are they here? What are they doing? What's the bigger picture of this?... I think these are questions you can answer, or at least explore, without defeating that sense of scariness. And who knows if their agenda's changed?"
Dark Horizons

Do you think that it's a bunch of Predators but instead of being in one place..it's scatter throughout the globe? So you could have ONE predator somewhere in S. America, another in the middle east...hunting.
