Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel!

Eh I dunno. Wasn't that kinda Predators except not on Earth?

My idea is that, in the first movie, maybe there were other Predator 'hunts' happening at the same time, and we're just getting Dutch's experience of it.

Years later, the CIA is tracking down the same sort of explain killings all over the globe again. It has multiplied leading to a bigger story.

The one flaw I have with my idea is that I liked the idea that the Predators just come here for the thrill of hunting and nothing more.

It's tough. To be honest I'm really iffy on these sequels and trying to reclaim former glory of classic 1980s action movies. I love and respect Shane Black, but even I'm not sure he's the guy that can do it.

Predator is still a special movie to me like the Terminator films. And yet all the follow-ups have been fodder.

If there's anyone who can do it, it's Shane Black.

I don't. I feel like he made promises with Iron Man 3 he didn't really fulfill. I'd rather he just continue to focus on his own projects like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Nice Guys.

I think Black did say something about the film having a Global aspect. Multiple hunts occuring across the world simultaneously and the authorities are trying to figure it out. Perhaps Dutch has a minor role as a consultant (and if that happens hopefully they get Glover, too.)

Both Dutch and Harrigan need to be in this in some capacity.

Well, opinions.
For me he exceeded all expectations with Iron Man Three. At that point, I would've never thought that he would have been able to make such a corageous, exciting and surprising film within the Marvel Studios machine (in fact, it was the first Marvel Studios film after Jon Favreau's original I really loved).
That film's so misunderstood (the Mandarin and his comics history is adapted with so much love, and on so many different levels; it's a pity most fans fail to see that just because Ben Kinglsey ain't him), smart and fun it hurts.

I like the cut of Dekker's jib. There's this little segment in Predators where the survivors are exchanging fire with the Predators and it's pretty cool. Something like that protracted would be great to see. Besides, how many times have we done the And Then There Where None angle?

The story is going to be more Aliens like.

It's a lot of people doing a lot of things in a lot of locations.

There's a lot of great stuff in the [original] Predator but it's very simple. Guys get dropped in a jungle, and there's an alien monster, and they fight the monster, and they all die except for one - spoiler alert! - and then the thing self-destructs, and there's a nuke, and then [Arnold Schwarzenegger] flies away. It's relatively simple.

Our idea was, Okay, we know that story already. What's behind the curtain? Why are they here? What are they doing? What's the bigger picture of this?... I think these are questions you can answer, or at least explore, without defeating that sense of scariness. And who knows if their agenda's changed?"

See, I like films that make me think. Films that 'tax' me or peak my curiosity. But, FFS, has anyone considered what made the first Predator so damn good was the fact, among other things, IT WASN'T COMPLICATED.

- People slaughtered in jungle by thing
- soldiers turn up, get scared, killed by thing
- remaining soldier fights thing, pretty much loses, but ends up winning in the end

There. Not complicated.

All the 'whys' are so pretentious and over-complicating things!

Here's my simple idea, which many might not like but I'd enjoy!

- people slaughtered by thing *pick setting*
- good guys turn up, no idea what it is, start bricking it, one goes crazy, kills other good guy, gets killed by comrades
- 2 or 3 survive, set a trap to catch thing with corpse/something
- thing comes to corpse while good guys watch ready to attack
- good guys realise the thing has been saving them from as yet unseen other thing
- other thing turns up kills good thing, kills other good guys, loses when good guy kills other thing with good things weapon
- we actually learn through the film that 'good thing' was stranded, has seen many acts of war by men realised not all are bad hence trying to save these ones from bad thing.

Why not? Reads terribly, sure. But it'd be fun. As opposed to "why is it there?" "where's it from?" "how does it feel?" "what flavour ice cream does it like?" who cares! the film isn't about the 'thing'.

Incoherent rant over.

Shane Black is perfectly aware of the greatness that was the first Predator. He had a hand in the script and also was in the movie. All he's saying is his Predator film will be the Aliens to the originals Alien.

I posted a while back about an aged, grizzled Dutch living alone somewhere, suffering from PTSD and the effects of seeing his entire team wiped out by an alien in full gory effect, and being brought back in by some government agency when similar killings start happening around the globe.

I'd still love to see that happen. I don't want Schwarzenegger to lead the film, but I think he should have a strong cameo role in it as some sort of advisor/consultant type who's brought in purely to assist the team tasked with finding the Predator. But secretly, he wants more answers and goes a little bit rogue.

It would be quite thrilling if they did the same with Harrigan, and you had a scene with the two of them sharing a cigar and quietly contemplating what they've encountered.

I hope this will be good. I don't know how I feel that Fred Dekker in working on this. He made RoboCop 3.

Robocop 3 had major production issues, and that was more than 20 years ago.

I honestly don't want Arnold involved at all. Predator is a perfect little bubble.

I don't mind Arnold returning. I do question how big his role may be. Is this a major return like Terminator? Glorified cameo? Or just a small cameo. Depending on how it's handled I wouldn't mind any of these options. I'd rather see Arnold return to this than see him return to another Terminator film or a if he does have a big part I just hope this isn't Terminator Genisys all over again.

Man, I watched Predators recently. Even though Brody does his best with the role, he still was a miscast.

The way Shane Black has been hinting at his involvement it's a small cameo. Definitly not a lead character.

Really? I actually really enjoyed Brody in the role. I really enjoyed The Predators film in general honestly. I thought it was the best one since the original granted that's only putting it above part 2 and the two AVP films but still.

That would be my main preference out of the options. Glad to hear that.
Has Shane said if Part 2 and Predators will be cannon at all? I guess Predators would not be since it ended on a somewhat of a cliff hanger and was never revisited with a direct sequal.

He said all the movies will be respected and they're all part of his Predator universe but his movie will tell it's story after the original. but be set in present day.

, with regards to when the film is set, Black gave us some firm info by revealing that it’s set in the present day:
Is it using the real time since the first film?

BLACK: This one will be set in present day.

Ah, so there’s a possibility.

BLACK: Yes, it’s set in present day.

So this movie will be in same universe as Predator 2 which storyline happened 1997, but it will continue story after Predator in present day and be it's indirect sequel.

I didnt like Predator 2 when I was younger, but now it become more guilty pleasure movie. Whole concept of predator in the city really intrigued me, just sad it was poorly exectuted.

Same way I feel about AVP2. Not a very good film, but I still enjoy it. Partly because the small town setting reminds me of my small town so it was like watching the movie unfold in my very town. So it's a guilty pleasure.

Speaking of Predator 2 and Danny Glover did anyone else feel like we needed Mel Gibson in the film lol Riggs.... Lol it may have been better.
