The Mandarin might turn out to be an advisor to Zheng Zu. One who wants to lead the Ten Rings in a more warlike direction and so assassinates Zhen Zu. Which would make Shang's story about avenging his father.

That would be a pretty significant reimagining of Shang-Chi that I'm not sure I'm a fan of.

New casting rumors point to Clive Reston being in the movie. If true, I'm curious to see who they're looking for, age-wise. If Reston has been chasing Fu Manchu/Zheng Zu/The Mandarin for years, they're likely to go older, but if he's an ex-lover of Leiko, then he's likely going to be a peer to Shang.

My current vote is Richard Dormer.

Well, considering his character origin, he's an agent who has been tracking the criminal activities of Shang's father for years. So he seems to be a natural fit in the story. We had to get through a long, long line of Marvel heroes with minority sidekicks/best friends, I think it's fine for Shang to get a white sidekick/partner.

Not sure how anyone can say he's ugly since he's probably better looking than most guys. I guess it goes to show how beauty varies widely between different cultures and countries. From that video, I sorta gather that Chinese culture seems to think that strong faces and physiques (likely denoting lower or working class people) are not as beautiful as more delicate, leaner types.

Predicted this in the Awkwafina thread. I wonder if she'll end up betraying the Mandarin.

He might play a role similar to Everett Ross in Black Panther. Though if Leiko Wu is introduced, maybe there will be some tension/rivalry between Shang and Clive (if I recall something like that happened in the MoKF books?).

They may bee correct in the role she is playing, but the character's name is different now. Just like Fu Manchu was changed to Zheng Zu, Fah Lo Suee also had to get a different name in the comics.

Hopefully it won't be a Tolkein White Guy as there was in Black Panther (in fact there were 2 of them). Having said that I would not mind seeing Sean Astin or Orlando Bloom in this role.
