It’s accepted internally that the last trilogy, and especially Rise of Skywalker, was rushed to meet aggressive release dates, and Kennedy played it safe in every possible way, choosing fan service and franchise management over creative swings. Look at her decisions: From jettisoning most of original writer Michael Arndt’s ideas and essentially remaking A New Hope with The Force Awakens, to freaking out and bringing back director J.J. Abrams and the villainous Emperor for Rise of Skywalker after some fans complained about Johnson’s mythology-busting choices in Last Jedi—choices that Kennedy had enthusiastically supported… right up until she didn’t.
I can't say I'm all that surprised .
I feel the film side needs a rest anyway , and they should shift their focus to exploring the SW universe and vast time line on TV as they have been doing.
I think they've got to give the general audience a chance to truly hunger for another SW theatrical release, and right now, that hunger ain't there.
Honestly happy to see this one go down the pan. Surely all these cancellations are costing money, must be adding up.
My comment from October aged rather well. Only off by 7 monthsI give it a year or two until this film gets canned
I think for that to happen they'd also need to stop putting out shows.

Agreed. It dilutes the brand. Why should anyone be excited for a new movie when we get plenty of Star Wars at home.
Solo bombed cause it sucked.Lucasfilm is clearly completely paralyzed. TLJ massively divided fans and at least part of the reason why Solo bombed was the negative TLJ fan reaction that was at its peak at the time. They then tried to course correct with IX but overdid it and displeased both fans and critics even more. So now they are afraid of putting out an anthology movie because Solo flopped and they're afraid of continuing with the ST universe and characters because of the negative reaction towards TLJ and TROS.
I said this after Rogue One came out. It's interesting to think about. Star Wars was this special thing. It seemed special enough to generate non-stop content. But perhaps a part of why it was special was because it only came around once in a while. I find it hard to imagine the property will ever reach the heights of anticipation that TFA saw, returning to screens after a long absence, and with beloved original actors back after an entire generation.
