BullMcGiveny, as a fan of the Sharon Carter character and pairing with her and Captain America, I definitely feel your pain and understand where you are coming from. However, there are a lot of changes and compromises throughout these films. It's just one of those things that's part of adapting these characters into films.

Just for example, I have no great affinity or love for Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel. That might sound terrible, but the Captain Marvel I prefer is really Genis-Vell. Avengers Forever and Peter David's Captain Marvel are older favorites of mine. He's like "my" Captain Marvel. I really don't have much interest in seeing the Carol version become the new Captain Marvel in the movie. However, that's pretty much the only version you can make now as people are demanding a female led Marvel movie. Carol is the current one in the comics.

If they made a movie about Genis-Vell or Mar-Vell, people would have a field day and accuse Marvel of being sexist. Genis-Vell gets no love anymore, which IMHO, is disappointing considering how good some of those stories were.

It's too bad but oh well. It'd be futile to dwell on the fact that a Genis-Vell movie won't happen.

It's pretty clear now that Captain America is going to die...a 95 year old virgin ;) .

Pretty much. Not that being a virgin defines a person or not but I'm surprised on how chaste that they've made Steve in the MCU.

@TheVileOne

I don't know a great deal about Captain Marvel, but the way I see it is this;

Captain Marvel is different things to different people; to you it is Genis-Vell or Mar-Vell, to others it might just be Genis-Vell, to others it is Carol.

All these things appeal to some but not others, but all are linked to Captain Marvel as a mythos.

Captain America to me is Steve teaming up with Sam or Sharon to fight the likes of Crossbones, to someone else it is Steve fighting the serpent society, to some it isn't Steve at all, but Bucky being Cap.

These are things that each appeal to one group or another, but they're all part of Cap's mythos.

Black Widow's getting character development has never had anything to do with Cap. Vision learning to be a real boy has nothing to do with Cap. Wanda and the vibrator's love affair is nothing to do with Cap.

Yet all these things are deemed worth exploring ahead of Sharon, even though there are other places to do them.

It isn't a case of 'oh, we can't do all the Cap stuff so we only do some of it', 'oh, we're focusing too much on Cap and the other Avengers to deal with that Cap stuff'

Who cares? Hell of a thing to ask in the Sharon Carter thread.

Two years ago she wasn't in the trailers and people were saying we should wait for the movie to see Sharon's role.

Then we saw the movie and how much of Sharon was in it, and people brushed it off and said she will have a big role next time.

I'm guessing in a few months it'll be 'she might be in Infinity War'

Just what would convince people the Russos don't care about Sharon?

For real.

People asking why we are upset that Sharon isn't promoted in a Captain America movie on a Sharon thread...:whatever:

Like, you can't even say at least she's in the movie, because her being in the movie isn't worth anything if none of it is worth putting in a trailer. It'd be far better if the Russos dropped her and freed her for being on AoS.

She could show up only once a season and it'd still be more than they're doing with her.

Gotta agree with that^. I can not stand AoS but I'm sure she would have more development and respect from that show that she had in the cap movies.

There is no sorta widow. if you have any experience with Widow's demeanor you know the film was close to that. Widow was femme fatale and extremely secretive like her comics counterpart. Sharon was not like that and i don't stick to a line of dialogue to justify that, there is a much larger characterization than that.

You shape the argument to fit your needs but there is no 100% source that says Sharon was supposed to be the leading lady. Honestly i have had enough of this. A couple of people here have a serious case of victim mentality. No one is gonna change your minds ao there is no point in contuining this. You are gonna go in the movie with fixed minds anyway that the MCU hates Sharon. have fun with that.

I thought a harmless discussion was being had.

I don't want to get into this again (because I'm sick of it) but it's my opinion that SJ's BW is wooden and not femme fatale and is doing her own take of BW and I don't get comics or cartoons BW from her portrayal. She's secretive, I give her that. If you like her BW then that's your opinion too. Also like what McGiveny said, Sharon is a spy after all in the comics.

I'm deducing from the evidence that I've already presented like the Russos admitting that they pushed for BW to have a bigger role, M/M talking about Sharon around TFA, and multiple articles about auditions for Cap's leading lady and again if you don't share my opinion on it than that's fine since people are allowed to have different opinions.

Yeah, classic case of "attacking the person/s when you can't attack the argument." Also, likewise since it looks like no one can change your mind too.

Marvel, WHERE'S. SHARON. CARTER??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Note: Marvel was Victoria Grayson in that gif.

I kind of feel like she will have a pivotal role at the end or something... Like maybe she helps get Steve out of jail, helps him go on the run, etc.

I kind of feel like that's why things have been so tight-lipped about her... and not some great anti-Sharon conspiracy or whatever....

Putting my Sharon stan hat off :sly:, I'm hoping for this because they didn't show Zemo, Bilbo Watson, and Crossbones in the trailer too. They don't want to spoil the revelation that Sharon helps Cap's team in the final act because in the EW pic she is shown to be working for E. Ross on the side of the accord.

Also according to the lego merch she is up in the airport tower supporting Cap's team.

Yes to this. I rather see Sharon in AoS or the new series Marvel's Most Wanted fighting with Mockingbird!

I completely agree with you Voltron

Thanks Poppy! I completey agree with me too :woot:.

It seems like that old rumor about Russos cutting EVC's role because she's a poor actress may be true. She was with team Cap in early promo arts and merch, she was the 6th in the credits. But on the new poster VanCamp's name is at the end of the credits. It's pretty obvious, that her role was significantly scaled down.

Who cast her? And who held the gun to their head and forced them to bring her back?

Has anyone stopped to consider that a reason we may not see a lot of her in promo is because she is, in fact, playing some kind of double agent role and showing her helping Team Cap would give away what is meant to be a bit of a plot twist within the story itself? >.>

Let's say she is, could every single shot of her be a potential spoiler?

No but I think any other kind of shots where she's not doing anything dramatic probably wouldn't sell the movie (at least according to Disney marketing logic where they think they need to focus on Steve and Tony).

Well, it's not like Marvel is making a Captain Marvel movie just to make a Captain Marvel movie. People had been fancasting Carol Danvers since before the first Avengers movie(when she was Ms. Marvel). Had Carol kept her original Ms. Marvel moniker, then we would be getting a Ms. Marvel movie instead. So, there's more to it than "give her a movie cuz she's a woman." Also, it helps that she's a contemporary character. It's kind of why Marvel didn't make a Guardians 3000 or a Hank Pym;s Ant-Man.

Sharon was in the first trailer, so things are looking better for her. The Russo's did say she would have a bigger role. Maybe she has an important role that they don't want spoiled. We also didn't see Everett Ross in this trailer and we still haven't seen Zemo in any of the trailers. And unlike TWS, there are TONS of characters in this film. To me, it's not suprising Sharon didn't show up in this trailer.

Like I said, you should wait to see the movie before judging them. Just wait. In a couple months Sharon's role will be revealed after everyone sees the movie. Then, I will come back here and laugh at you and tell you to apologize to the Russos. The Russos are too awesome to be receiving hate from anyone.

Her role was 3 minutes and a little in TWS. Bigger doesn't really tell you anything.

ERoss is said to be a small role, meant to pave the way for future appearances (ie Black Panther). Zemo's role is said to open the doors for future stuff.

Or in a couple of months, Sharon's role will be revealed, and perhaps it'll be longer but it won't be extensive or memorable, and you'll still be smug, you'll shrug and say maybe next time.

Yeah, and this is just one shot. A 2 minute trailer is not going to show everything. Just saying.

Yeah, not everything, but it should have shown this.

But for once, we get something. So let's just agree to disagree.

Not necessarily. Civil War has tons of characters. It's not suprising they didn't show her. Maybe most of the scenes with Sharon are the smaller, more personal scenes with Steve. That's not something you'd want to show in a trailer to get people to see the film. People just want to see explosions.
