I wonder why Freddy didn't have any Flash or Cyborg merch?

Maybe those characters aren't known too well to the general public? Batman & Superman have been operating longer; especially Batman. Barry & Victor have kept to themselves quite a bit, and have stayed out of the public eye and news reports. Besides, every time someone went to take a photo of Barry, he'd just disappear.

went into weekend just caring for the Godzilla reveal from the Warner Bros Panel

Came out looking forward to this the trailer sold me on potential fun this could be

Rant warning:

I hate this idea that DC, and many fans foment that Captain Marvel/Shazam needs Superman or worse Batman to appear and validate him, as if he's awaiting acknowledgment and their approval.
This is how DC (and fans) have been undermining the character since they acquired him, and why most reviewing the trailer start with "I don't really know or care about this character, but...".

I'm fine with the movie referencing the DC heroes and establishes it's the same U, that's great!
Although if the fans get their way, Superman and Batman and all will soon show up to say they approve of Billy/SHAZAM!, subjectively relegating Captain Marvel/Shazam! as subservient to them. While the fans applaud and squee look Superman and Batman approves!
Casting and relegated him to second-string, permanently in their shadow. It's the fans who feed into that.

The character existed for decades as the definitive champion of his own universe.
The after credit reveal shouldn't be Superman, if anyone should be Teth Adam.
And no SHAZAM! shouldn't ever need Superman and Batman to help defeat, or find the clues to defeat Adam.
That is Billy's journey.

As far as eventually Joining JL, again this myopic vision that you don't count until you're in JL, has also relegated SHAZAM! into afterthought second tier joiner status. Which he wasn't.

If anything he was, and should be the champion of his own team.

This attitude of how does SHAZAM fit into the DCU, needs to be dropped, and the focus should be how to develop SHAZAM's U, where he is the champion. And then the DCU characters can come play.

It’s not even about validation though it’s about exploring the idea of the shared universe. As fans we want to see these characters interact with one another.

In Billy Batson/Shazam’s case he has always had a long history with Superman in the comics.

His history existed separate from Superman. That's my point, DC (and by extension the fans) have placed him second to Superman, as if he only exists by joining Superman's world, and fans inadvertently fed into it.
Shared universe is great, show the DCU exists in the papers and U, and Freddy is a fan, that's all good fun. He shouldn't be awaiting anyone's approval though.
I loath that fan anticipated scene where Superman or Batman validate him, with the you're one of us now BS.
He's his own character.
The set up tie in should be to the Teth Adam movie, not JL, and further expanding the classic Fawcett characters. That is where he' is champion, DC constantly neglects that.

I mean, I understand your point but honestly... if Superman shows up in this film, I'd argue that it's because he's been so mishandled that WB now views him as inferior to Shazam and it probably ticks a box as the last film Henry Cavill needs to do to finish up his contract. I mean, think about it. If Shazam is a hit, WB will make a sequel, possibly multiple sequels. They've also said they have big plans for the character in the shared universe.

Meanwhile, apparently no director on earth wants to touch Superman, and Henry Cavill is supposedly negotiating with WB, trying to get a solo film made. And even if they want to work with him to make it happen, they sure don't seem all that motivated to do it, since it's been 5 years since Man of Steel and Supes' appearances since then have been as a background character in a Batman movie and 10 minutes of a JL movie.

The Aquaman trailer did nothing for me. It looks good visually (for the most part) but I'm still not feeling Momoa as Aquaman and Amber Heard's line delivery in the trailer felt...off.

I think it'll turn out okay but I can safely say that Shazam! is the only DC movie I'm looking forward to at the moment

It would be a little weird too because Shazam is done by New Line. Superman had his chance 3 times, so it's almost like it's done out of pity

Wonder Woman is still working well. If they get Shazam! and Aquaman right and a new Superman with Cavill, in a more bright, upbeat Man of Steel 2 works too, the DC universe could be in a good shape after all. Is the team-up aspect that they couldn't get right, but if everything they have in line, works, they still have Flash and Green Lantern Corps to keep the universe afloat. I say give Batman a break. And bring him after at least five years. Make people hungry for the character.

I don't think Superman showing up is going to be just about validating Shazam. There's a good chance Superman can learn from Shazam while Shazam learns from Superman.

Yeah, a seperate one where they're doing their own thing. Not sure why they would want to retread or associate their new movie with a character that hasn't done well.

If there are going to have Superman, it will probably be a very minor cameo. I don't see why they would spend time on something like Superman being a mentor. There's already the Wizard Shazam for that. They need to prop up Shazam not someone who's similar to Shazam.

Neither do it for me as well Momoa was only good in GOT cause of the exceptional material and he had no real lines lol and Heard only thing I know about her is she was in the apology video her and depp had to do for bringing those dogs to Australia so lol

This looks so good! Like others have said, the trailer reminded me a lot of Spider-Man: Homecoming. I'm really excited for this movie. Wonder Woman proves that the DC movies have tons of potential, and both this and Aquaman look fantastic. I'm really hoping this movie delivers. If Batman and Superman are on the outs for the DCEU, I hope Shazam can have a big role going forward. (But I would also note that I'm still hopeful that Batman and Superman can be redeemed; all they'd need is one really solid movie each and people would let bygones be bygones with BVS and JL, I think.)

That could happen if it's just like Wonder Woman's photo. I don't think people should expect anything more than that like a full scene with Superman in costume or anything, which they would have to pay Cavill more and would be a distraction. It could be just a moment with Clark Kent.
