Should Dark Phoenix Be Shelved When Disney gets Fox?

Should Disney Release Dark Phoenix In Theaters?

  • Yes! Fox-X Men fans would be disappointed if they didn't!

  • No! It'll hurt the brand! Just dump it on the Streaming Service!

The possibilities it will increase with every delay :D

With the latest delay, it will almost certainly be owned by Disney by the time it's released. I still don't think they're going to scrap it at this point, but it will be interesting to see how they handle it. Will they throw their support behind it and try to salvage it, or will they release it quietly with minimal fanfare?

I suspect they'll sort of stand back and treat it as if Fox were still their own thing, and let the Fox people handle it as their last act - with a hope that they'll at least get something out of it in the end.

So if the deal does close by December. How much will that in reality speed up the F4/X-Men MCU introduction? Vs if the deal closes in say March-June? Probably not much right? since Dark Phoenix still has to come out, New Mutants, Maybe x-force, Gambit and Deadpool 3. Depending on what's on the contract. Then the rights have to actually transfer to Disney then marvel studios which will probably take a few months to sort out the paper work. so in reality the deal closing in December while exciting probably doesnt speed things up much unless i'm wrong.

I don't really think it will change much. I suspect they have a five year plan with FF and X-Men penciled in toward the end of that. Maybe they'll make an announcement sooner, or maybe it will allow Silver Surfer to appear in GOTG3, but since they know they'll be getting it, and probably won't do much soon anyway, I don't see the plans changing much if it comes a few months earlier.

.

They absolutely wont be shelving the film. They cant. You cant shelve a $200 million dollar movie.

They will reboot the X-Men after Dark Pheonix but dont expect to see the new mutants of MCU before 2021.

Personally I think they should shelve it regardless

But realistically, if Disney takes over before the movie comes out, I see them not advertising at all, letting it quietly release, and then shipping it off to the dustbin... I don't even think they'd make a deal for a netflix release or anything like that, and it's definitely not going on Disney+
