Should SM3 be the last

Spiderman 3 will not be the last so that can just be taken out of your mind. This might be the last with the current cast but Raimi wants to do more as does Sony and Marvel will pump them out forever. It's not a matter of how many films they make it's the quality of films. Batman had some lousy sequels as did Superman. Spiderman has had 2 great films so far and likely a 3rd great film and considering the character has 40 years of stories to tell it would be ridiclous to think 3 films could tell everything there is about Spiderman. We've seen 2 villains. There will be lots more Spiderman to come as long as the fans keep coming...and they will as long as the films are good.

Nice post.Spider-Man popularity(which was already huge) has become bigger with the movies.Just put the money the previous movies have made and add the money S-M3 is gonna make(it´s probably going to be 2007 biggest movie event).I find it hard that spidey´s franchise is gonna have less than 4 movies.:spidey:

I feel that if your going to go out, then go out on top. Why risk making a bunch of SM movies after this one, when the original cast may not be in it, or the same director. See, Batman only had one good movie back in 89, and then it went down hill Till BB saved its butt and restart the franchise where it should have gone.

As long as they are well done,i don´t mind to see 6 movies(as it was said previously):):spidey:

I think that this movie should HINT at future sequel possibilities & I also think it should end with it NOT setting up any sequel.

If it does go on....I say a new director....perhaps a new cast....and definitely a new approach. Say maybe,...having more Spider-Man and less Dawson's Creek.

A new cast will come for sure. The approach will depends on Sony´s decision to keep Raimi and the crew or not.:spidey:

why having a last movie??? why not making as many movies as they can... i don't see how it would hurt us.. if Spider-man 4 is a crap, then don't buy it.. do you think that if Spidey 4 is a crap it will hurt your appreciation of the three first movies??

There are way too many cool villains to stop at 3 movies. Though if they start considering Rocket Racer, maybe THEN it'll be time to quit.

I'd say if all main characters Tobey, Kristen, and company signed on to do more than 3 films than go for it. If they can't get the cast and Raimi to do more than 3 films than no. Keep the cast or no more movies.

Surprisingly enough, more crap than usual got thrown around on these spidey boards during my absense and just like clockwork, it was inevitable for me to return and tell it how it is.

Should sm3 be the last? Thats a good question that has been discussed many times before but with the abundance of stupid threads and ideas being pasted all over the place, this thread in particular stands out as being somewhat intelligent and I dare say, underrated.

If Raimi gives us a script on the intermediate level of sm1 and 2 then yes, I say they should stop at sm3 and Marvel should then concentrate on buying back the rights for the spidey movies because it will then be clear that the movies aren't getting significantly better.
One thing you have to give Raimi and his goons at sony credit for is their marketng strategy and their ability to conjur up mass hype but unfortunately for them, its now become a case of, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, fool me for a third time, you can all go to hell!

I find it bizzare that some "die-hard" spidey fans are willing to accept the mediocre standards of these movies but are the same ones who come up with the lamest logic and stupid ideas and bang on about 40+ years of source material, blah blah blah.
If there are 40+ yeras of source material why are the movies so pathetically average, especially with a die-hard fan at the helm of the movie?

On the other hand, if by some luck, Raimi decides to direct his "hard" efforts into giving us a real spider-man movie, decent script, dialogue, better action and all round entertaining movie that doesn't require skipping to the action scenes once released on dvd, then by all means let the franchise go on and continue. Afterall, we do have more than enough source material to extract ideas from to tell incredible stories with the movies.
There's this ******ed notion going around since the 1st official trailer of sm1 that if Maguire, Raimi and Dunst quit or whatever then the movies should stop. Bullsh1t. Maguire of all people does not make spider-man great, neither does Raimi and neither dose Dunst especially. All this crap about how the batman movies sucked due to the change of the lead character is irrelevent. The batman movies fell into the suck-vortex because the movies themselves sucked, the script sucked, the dialogue sucked, the directing sucked and the action sucked.
If the leads in the sm movies dissapear after sm3, thats absoloutly fine with me. Tobey's not impresively spectacular with the character as it is and brings no real dynamic dexterity to the character, he pretty much plays the same tired role in all his movies. I welcome anyone else who is capable and has knowledge of the pp/spider-man character. Dunst isn't even worth discussing.

With all that said, I really hope sm3 does what the previous spidey movies were supposed to do and if the leads want to stay which I doubt, good for them, if they want to leave, they all know where the door is. :o

This is exactly the sort of garbage I'm talking about :o

cant say i disagree with you spider-jide, they need a fresh start with some real actors and scripts, i thinki molina was the only good decision made in the past two films

I agree that Tobey has never done it for me. I never have bought him as Peter or Spider-Man. And while I've always been thrilled that the movies and a character that I love have done well, I don't feel that Raimi's vision of Spider-Man fits mine. At least I've always felt more could be done with it.

Agreed. I'd say Raimi did a pretty good job with the movies overall, but there's still a lot of room for improvement. This can only be realized by a different director with a different vision. Not to bring up the whole organic web argument again but a director who makes this big of a change obviously doesn't have a vision that really jives with the spirit of the comics.

Most definately. I appreciate Raimi giving us movies that the majority of viwers can show appreciate for and for what it is but imo appreciation is shown for what I consider to be underwhelming reasons. I'd rather Raimi adhere a lot closer to the source material, envisioning a spidey movie where we can take all the greatness from the comics and then expand upon it. Only then can I truelly be greatful.

thanks man, i just thought i would make a thread about the movie and its possible sequels, insteed of ranting about the villians

If they completely revamp the franchise so it doesn't suck. I could see an even bigger Spidey franchise.

I loved the spidey moves ( perhapes 1 more though), but IMO i think this should be the last because, i would rather have an amazing spider-man trilogy, then have the sequals deminish over time *Cough* *Cough* * superman 3,4 & batman forever, batman & robin *Cough*. Its not possible for them all to be good, so whats it to be a great trilogy or average saga?

no, they shouldn't end at 3 because we need to see Venom

I've no doubt we'll see Venom if they continue the movies (especially if Raimi leaves after 3) - mostly likely Carnage, too. Both appeal to the MTV Spawn-loving crowd, nevermind the fact that both are incredibly boring characters.

I could see that too.Spidey has so much potential to explore:spidey:

I think 3 should be it...eventually, Hollywood is going to screw it up
