Surprisingly enough, more crap than usual got thrown around on these spidey boards during my absense and just like clockwork, it was inevitable for me to return and tell it how it is.
Should sm3 be the last? Thats a good question that has been discussed many times before but with the abundance of stupid threads and ideas being pasted all over the place, this thread in particular stands out as being somewhat intelligent and I dare say, underrated.
If Raimi gives us a script on the intermediate level of sm1 and 2 then yes, I say they should stop at sm3 and Marvel should then concentrate on buying back the rights for the spidey movies because it will then be clear that the movies aren't getting significantly better.
One thing you have to give Raimi and his goons at sony credit for is their marketng strategy and their ability to conjur up mass hype but unfortunately for them, its now become a case of, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, fool me for a third time, you can all go to hell!
I find it bizzare that some "die-hard" spidey fans are willing to accept the mediocre standards of these movies but are the same ones who come up with the lamest logic and stupid ideas and bang on about 40+ years of source material, blah blah blah.
If there are 40+ yeras of source material why are the movies so pathetically average, especially with a die-hard fan at the helm of the movie?
On the other hand, if by some luck, Raimi decides to direct his "hard" efforts into giving us a real spider-man movie, decent script, dialogue, better action and all round entertaining movie that doesn't require skipping to the action scenes once released on dvd, then by all means let the franchise go on and continue. Afterall, we do have more than enough source material to extract ideas from to tell incredible stories with the movies.
There's this ******ed notion going around since the 1st official trailer of sm1 that if Maguire, Raimi and Dunst quit or whatever then the movies should stop. Bullsh1t. Maguire of all people does not make spider-man great, neither does Raimi and neither dose Dunst especially. All this crap about how the batman movies sucked due to the change of the lead character is irrelevent. The batman movies fell into the suck-vortex because the movies themselves sucked, the script sucked, the dialogue sucked, the directing sucked and the action sucked.
If the leads in the sm movies dissapear after sm3, thats absoloutly fine with me. Tobey's not impresively spectacular with the character as it is and brings no real dynamic dexterity to the character, he pretty much plays the same tired role in all his movies. I welcome anyone else who is capable and has knowledge of the pp/spider-man character. Dunst isn't even worth discussing.
With all that said, I really hope sm3 does what the previous spidey movies were supposed to do and if the leads want to stay which I doubt, good for them, if they want to leave, they all know where the door is.
